Great space & location. Sabine is a great host, would gladly rent again.
Sabine's cottage is well located in Ashland and has lots of light and space. It was quite cold when we arrived but warmed up by morning and for the rest of our stay. The perfect place to stay if you want to hide from the crowds of the Shakespeare Fest but not quite as comfy in the winter. Sabine was very responsive. Description says it has a fireplace but she doesn't want you to use it because of insurance issues.
This was my second autumn stay in Sabine and David's cottage and as other reviewers have said, it's the best place to stay in Ashland. It's quiet, spacious, cozy, and safe, and has just what you need to feel at home while getting away from computers, traffic, work, etc. The cottage is just a block from the quaint downtown and 2-3 blocks to the Shakespeare Festival theatres--you never need your car. The upstairs bedroom is airy, with vaulted ceilings and ceiling fans, and almost twice the size of the typical hotel room! The downstairs living room, kitchen and porch are great for eating, resting and reading. And there's another patio table in the garden for summer dining. The town of Ashland is full of independent book stores, galleries, restaurants, clothing stores and so much to explore. This cottage is a hidden gem; you'll love it.
One of the best things about Ashland is that it is a great walking town. From the many trails in Lithia Park to meandering through the historical districts and window shopping in downtown, you can get around and see a lot without the hassle of driving and parking. All that said, The Cottage is perfectly located for those who love to put the car keys down for a few days and dig in.
The Cottage is very well represented by the photos and description. If you plan to make any meals in, it's great to have a full-size fridge, a gas stove, good pots and pans and basic cooking tools - all of which are present. There is an auto-drip coffee maker but if you prefer French press coffee, or "pour over", bring yours from home. We simply don't travel without the beloved French press.
General pluses include a fantastic, super comfy king-size bed and loads of pillows! The whole cottage is filled with natural light and plenty of windows for comfortable cross breezes. Outdoor nooks include the upstairs balcony and an umbrella patio set in the garden. It's nice and quiet at night and the neighbors, if you run into them, are friendly.
It is a delightful sanctuary at an unbeatable value in the heart of Ashland and we look forward to returning soon!
We never actually met our host, but there was someone available to greet us and show us where everything was. It was a little confusing for us to find where the actual entrance was and where to park, but when I called the host, they answerd right away and took us through it, step by step. And OMG, talk about great location for Ashland! Yes, yes, yes! We would stay there again in a heartbeat!
Wonderful space to stay for a long weekend! Thanks so much for having us we really enjoyed our visit to Ashland and staying in your place. Very quiet, yet easy to get to the center of town with a less-than-5-minute walk.
A bar of chocolate was sitting on the kitchen counter as a welcoming present.... a very nice touch and indicative of Sabine's thoughtfulness and attention to detail.
This little cottage was everything we were expecting and more. It had a lot of character, was very clean, private, comfortable and such an easy walking distance to the Festival. We ate out during our stay, but the kitchen is adequate for preparing meals if you choose to cook. Our neighbors in the main house were quiet. The only time we heard them was when they parked their car because it was outside the cottage window.
For older renters: you should be aware that the bedroom is upstairs and the bathroom is downstairs. The stairs are not steep and there is a small night light, but as an extra precaution we left a lamp on as well.
All in all, we enjoyed our stay and would definitely stay in Sabine's cottage again.
Thank you so much, Eileen, for your review!
I am glad you had a good time with us and I apreciate your suggestions and I will put some extra blankets in the closet to make it more comfortable or the next guests! There is always room for improvement!!
All the best, and I hope you will stay with us again!! Sabine

My husband Dave and I are both professional artists for the last 23 years. We moved 7 years ago from Sonoma County to our Ranch in the Rogue Valley to continue our breeding operation of Andalusian and Lusitano Horses. We love animals and the beauty of the nature that surrounds us. In our younger days, before our animals tied us down, we loved traveling extensively and still do, when we get a chance. I speak fluent German, and my Italian and Spanish are rather rusty, but I am still able to communicate.
