Birendras house is a great place to stay when you're coming to Kathmandu! It is very clean and located in a quiet neighbourhood, but just a 15 min. walk from Thamel. I felt very welcome by Birendra and his whole family! The best thing is, that Birendra is a passionate traveller himself, so besides precious advices and help for your stay in Nepal, you will have really interesting talks. I highly recommend this place!

The home was clean and bright, really enjoyed the balcony! The room was on the second floor, but Birendra and his family seemed to stay mostly on the third floor, which makes sense as that's where the TV is, and also seemed to be where the wi-fi signal was strongest. I was given a spare key to use to go in and out--took a bit of practice to lock and unlock the door, but I got the hang of it. I got a bit lost in the neighborhood the first time I tried to walk somewhere, even with maps, but once I figured out the simplest way, I was able to come and go easily. Was definitely glad I stayed here and not in the Thamel area, which was claustrophobic and noisy!

We enjoyed our stay. Both the room and bathroom are very clean. The house is located in a quiet neighbourhood, took us about 15-20 mins to walk to Thamel. The entire family was very welcoming and we had a nice chat with the host. Would recommend.

My stay with Birendra was fantastic in every way. I was graciously welcomed into his home and family. The room and bathroom were very clean and the bed was comfortable. There was always hot water available and 24/7 electricity due to a reliable backup power system. Birendra was always ready to help with any need that I had. Highly recommend!

Birendra and his family live in a very nice home outside of the downtown area. The house is beautiful and clean. He and his wife are sweet and welcoming, but keep in mind, it is definitely a family home and not a place that is unlocked or that you always have access too (people may not be home during the day to let you in, so you may have to coordinate your plans). I stayed for 3 days, one of which I was hiking, I had a very pleasant experience and appreciated that Birendra's home was quite, peaceful and consistently had electricity/wifi. (In Nepal, thats huge)! I think this would be a perfect place for anyone who is familiar with Kathmandu. I really struggled to get there by taxi multiple times, this is not anyone's fault I think it is difficulty to find clear addresses and directions in Nepal, and I got lost getting to the bus or downtown as well, but again that is really no one's fault by my own! I think if you know Kathmandu at all, and would like to be away from Thamel, this would be a lovely place to stay for you. Birendra is helpful and nice to talk to, and is a great resource for information on tourism and trekking in Nepal.

Hi Kyirsty, Thank you so very much for your thoughts, experiences and comments regarding to my daughter. i can imagine being in your place but the fact is she was not happy with me as she was supposed to transferred to home from school but due to blockaded (crisis of fuel) i have not been able to provide transportation to my children since i returned from USA. If you read previous reviews left by other guests then my daughter is the most highlights in the reviews. I started airbnb because of my children( particularly my daughter) because she likes foreigners to experiences their lifestyle culture and way of living back home. Thank you.

Overall good communication with host. However, property was very difficult to find in taxi from airport. Even after arriving Hosts worker had to escort me to central area to see main downtown. Due to power outages in city it was extremely difficult trying to find my way back to the house so I had to call host to come get me. Him and his family were nice, despite his wife was a little ill. It was mid January when I arrived, There was no heating in the home and it was very cold through out the house. I stayed only 1 of the 2 nights I initially booked, and I forfeited one night because I was not comfortable staying so far from the main center of town despite the 20-25 min. walk if you know which direction to go. The room was fine, and the bathroom was next to room where him and his family slept. I preferred being in the heart of the city. But host understood my reason for leaving a day earlier.

Response from Birendra Pd:
Thank you for your nice words. As Nepal has no street name with signboard, that might made her or anyone else difficult to find the property although it’s common problem in our country. It is exactly 15 minutes walk from tourist hub (Thamel). As I discovered her that she likes touristic area with shopping center, restaurants and taxi next to her hotel. I have clearly mentioned about where i live, how is my house like and i strongly believe that she or anybody else would have a looked or read about the property. As Kathmandu has power outages(13 hours) so how could we hit out house, we would definitely love to live in comfort as well as make you feel the same but unfortunately it is like impossible, i feel REALLY SORRY FOR YOU.

Birendra is a warm and friendly Host. We spent hours talking about many topics. He is quite knowledgeable about many subjects. I had a wonderful time walking about town with him and found myself laughing out loud much through our conversations.

Hi, my name is Birendra. I have been trekking and guiding since 1998 in Nepal, Tibet and Bhutan. I have always had, and continue to have, a strong desire to remain "close to the ground". My experience with trekking began when I was growing up in the Kanchenjunga region of Nepal; In fact, I had to trek two hours each day to get to school! At the age of nine my family moved from the mountains to the Terai region of Nepal, where I completed high school. I then enrolled to Tribhuwan University in Kathmandu, where I earned a Bachelor's Degree in Arts and Humanity.

Currently, I am running my own trekking company called “Adventure Club Treks & Expedition. My company operates tours and trips in Nepal, as well as in Bhutan, Tibet and India. I love traveling. I have traveled extensively through Asia, USA, entire European countries and all the rural areas of Nepal. I love to meet new people and develop enduring friendships with persons of any race, ethnicity, backgrounds or genders who are welcoming, honest, caring and keen on sharing their ideas and experiences.

As a side project, I and my wife (Sarala) are associated with an orphanage based in Kathmandu, called New Ray of Hope, it was established in 2010 to care for children who have been orphaned or abandoned. We currently have 15 children, aged between 4 and 13 who come to us from many different regions of Nepal. The work that we do at New Ray of Hope is vital for the children They are able to go to school every day and in the evenings they take part in organized play activities. We can't change their pasts but we hope that we can change their futures and give them the choices in life that every child deserves. We started to host strangers through Airbnb to support orphanage, we contribute 25% that we get paid by guests.
