I couldn't ask for a better place. Birendra's family was very helpful, they provide to give me precious advices and every help I needed. The house is close to thamel and lazimpat but far from every kind of noise this city is full of. The streets surrounding the house are safe, I've been walking late in the night and no one disturbed me. At 9:45 in the morning you can hear the children from the school in front of the house sing the national anthem. wi-fi signal is good, even though electrics black-out are frequent, but its a whole city problem.
Birendra is a very considerate, energetic and helpful host. I really enjoyed staying with him and his family for my first 3 days in Nepal. After this I moved on from Kathmandu to visit other parts of Nepal. Then the earthquake happened!! I was scheduled to return to Birendra's house prior to my tour of Bhutan, but several of his relatives had to move in with him since his house is the most sturdy in the neighborhood. That left no room for me, but he told me "No problem, I will find you a good place to stay instead." Not only did he do this, but he personally picked me up from the bus terminal and took me to the small hotel which was one of the few undamaged by the earthquake.
Being a tour and trekking guide, Birendra also looked at the itinerary I had organized myself, and helped rearrange it to be more realistic given the transportation difficulties caused by the earthquake.
Birendra is now spending most of his time on grassroots earthquake relief efforts which he has helped organize, bypassing the corrupt government's meddling which has created a bottleneck for many of the relief supplies coming into the country from abroad.
Overall I will say that Birendra is one of the best airbnb hosts I have ever stayed with and I now count him as a personal friend.
We are very sad to hear about the recent earthquake and the destruction around your home. We are sad we did not get to meet you in person, but we were so impressed with your prompt and detailed responses. We think we would have had a wonderful trip to Kathmandu if it had happened.
Stay safe Birendra and we hope you and your family can rebuild your lives in Kathmandu.

Excellent and very comfy house, calm but only 15min walk from Thamel. Birendra was always nice to give advice about Nepal and his trips are really worth it. Highly recommanded place.
Adoramos e recomendamos! Muito obrigada, Birendra!!! Juliana e Heloise
Birendra is a great Host, he and his family make you feel very welcome. Cups of tea chats and lots of local knowledge, about Kathmandu and trekking in Nepal. The description of the area and home and room were very accurate. The area is great as you get to feel what it's like to live in a true Kathmandu suburban area rather than a tourist hotel area.I loved the 15 minute walk to thamel so interesting as you walk down local back streets.Ihighly recommend the stay at Birendra's place.

About the Host, Birendra Pd
Hi, my name is Birendra. I have been trekking and guiding since 1998 in Nepal, Tibet and Bhutan. I have always had, and continue to have, a strong desire to remain "close to the ground". My experience with trekking began when I was growing up in the Kanchenjunga region of Nepal; In fact, I had to trek two hours each day to get to school! At the age of nine my family moved from the mountains to the Terai region of Nepal, where I completed high school. I then enrolled to Tribhuwan University in Kathmandu, where I earned a Bachelor's Degree in Arts and Humanity.
Currently, I am running my own trekking company called “Adventure Club Treks & Expedition. My company operates tours and trips in Nepal, as well as in Bhutan, Tibet and India. I love traveling. I have traveled extensively through Asia, Europe and all the rural areas of Nepal. I love to meet new people and develop enduring friendships with persons of any race, ethnicity, backgrounds or genders who are welcoming, honest, caring and keen on sharing their ideas and experiences.
As a side project, I am also associated with an orphanage based in Kathmandu where I am helping to improve their lives through quality education.
It is my greatest desire to use my success and positive mind-set to help to create real social change for the people of Nepal, beginning with the support of the New Nepal Society Center. Many visitors to Nepal find that they have a great attraction to the country and people. They want to help in some way and Birendra can help to facilitate this whether they want to donate goods or money or to volunteer their time.
