This charming Craftsman house is located in the popular Hawthorne district, and offers both comfort and easy access to the many trendy shops and restaurants in the area.
This home holds all the charm of a house built in the 1920s, and has been lovingly upgraded to include new bamboo floors, two renovated bathrooms, gas range/ stainless steal kitchen appliances, and a simplistic artistic decor.
The house has plenty of natural sunlight, a working fireplace, and a dining room table for 8. The neighborhood itself has many popular restaurants, including Por Que No at the end of the block, Apizza Scholls, The Woodsman, and a new bakery Roman Candle. The Sapphire (2 blocks away) is well-known for delicious mixed drinks and cozy romantic nooks, while the coffeeshop next door (The Press) offers local Stumptown coffee pulled by award-winning baristas. Stumptown itself is 4 blocks away, should you need to go straight to the coffee source. If the food doesn't keep you busy, the shopping will, with Powell's Books, Buffalo Exchange and Redlight, all within walking distance. Catch a movie at the Bagdad theater, where you can drink beer and eat pizza while the show is playing, or head on up to Mt. Tabor Park with lovely views of the city and places to picnic, tennis, hike, run, laugh, and laze about.

The neighborhood is very quiet with lot's of little one's about. You are a guest in my home and a guest to my neighbors!
Note: Most of these rules are common sense and only apply to a few bad apples. This house is for families and mature classy people!
Thank you for taking the time to read this. I look forward to hosting your gathering!
This was a perfect place to stay with a small group of people. It's in a quiet neighbourhood that is excellent to explore on foot, and close to main streets with transit. Comfy, clean and spacious: exactly as advertised.
Benjamyn made us feel so comfortable and welcome. The home has a keyless entry so check in was a breeze. He stopped by later and met us on the porch to make sure all of our questions were answered about the house and to encourage us to make ourselves at home. The house was just as described. 4 spacious bedrooms with comfy beds, 2 baths with enough hot water for 4 girls to shower each day, a kitchen with enough essentials to prepare meals, plenty of seating, and everything was clean. I would absolutely recommend this home for friends & families to use!
Benjaymin's home is great! It's large and clean, a perfect place for a group gathering. Benjaymin is the best, gave us the warmest welcoming and fulfilled our needs. We all loved the place and had a wonderful time in Portland, will definitely stay at Benjaymin's during next times!
A family of six traveling together over the holiday's, we enjoyed a great stay at Benjamyn's in the popular Hawthorne neighborhood. There was plenty of room in this cozy and well decorated home (unique & artsy). Our needs were met for preparing meals in the kitchen (great gas stove!), and we had plenty of heat and hot water. Benjamyn was very easy to make arrangements with and responded quickly in all our communications. He was also there to greet and welcome us on arrival. We definitely recommend this place and look forward to more opportunities to come back!
We were a group of 8 who rented Benjamyn's house for Thankgiving weekend. The house was spacious, clean and reflected the photographs we had seen exactly. The location is excellent for exploring SE Portland and the Hawthorne district, and isn't far from the city if you have a car (15 min drive). Benjamyn kindly put marker cones on the street for us as there weren't a lot of parking spots, but I think this is mainly due to the fact that it was Thanksgiving weekend. Otherwise there is lots of street parking. We cooked a Thanksgiving dinner and would have appreciated some more oven dishes in the kitchen, but otherwise the kitchen was very well equipped (and we managed to fit 2 turkeys in the oven!). Benjamyn was generally responsive with any issues (e.g. the lights went off due to a fuse problem and he fixed this immediately). However, he could have been more responsive on the day of our arrival as we arrived late in the evening after a long journey and did not receive the entry details for the house until just one hour before. Also, if you want total privacy you may wish to consider other properties as Benjamyn lives in a basement flat below the house. We never met him and he fully respected our privacy, but we were obviously concerned not to make too much noise etc. All in all we had a wonderful stay in Portland. The house is gorgeous and a true Portland "gem".
My extended family and I came to Portland and stayed at Benjamyn's home for 5 days over a long Labor Day weekend. The purpose of our visit was our daughters wedding at The World Forestry Center, a short distance away.
We enjoyed excellent and comfortable accommodations in this beautiful craftsman style home in SE Portland near Mount Tabor. The proximity to the airport was an added bonus since many of us flew in from the four corners of the globe for the festivities.
All of our extended party were comfortable and secure in our clean, cozy environment. The freedom and savings we enjoyed in this home allowed us to explore the greater Portland area and attend the pre-nuptial events with no stress. The clawfoot bath in the second floor bathroom was one of many personal decorative accents in the home.
Once we settled in, Benjamyn was attentive to our needs. Staying here gave us the "at home feeling" we required for such an important event. Staying in a hotel would have not set the right tone for the occasion. We were able to bond well over laughter and joy in the kitchen, dining room and living room.
The neighborhood was safe and quiet. We all voted "A+" on this property.
Benjamyn was a great host, patiently waiting for our late night arrival. He gave us a tour of the house assuring us that if we needed anything, just give him a call and he would take care of it. The house is situated in a nice, quiet neighborhood and when not out and about, we thoroughly enjoyed hanging out on the front porch. There is a lot to do within walking distance, bars, shops, and restaurants. You can catch a bus right down the street, take you into downtown.Plenty of room in the house ,2 bedrooms and bath downstairs and the same upstairs. Beds were comfy. A great place to return to after sightseeing all day. We were there during some very warm weather and the house was quite comfortable. We would definitely return and have Benjaymn as our host.

I am a world traveller and an artist, and have spent extensive time in Central America surfing and exploring. While living in Japan for six months, I painted over 350 sketches and 64 finished bodies of work. I brought those back to Portland for an art show, and some of this body of work is still in the house you will be staying in. When I travel, I seek to have authentic experiences of the culture, which include the places I stay. I strive to provide both an amazing place for you to stay while you are in Portland, but also a place that provides access to the true culture of Portland.
