Arrived in Liberia on the 26th of Feb. No luggage. Waited all day on 27th. Still no luggage. We decided to make our way to our Vista Pacifica. We stopped for gas in Santa Cruz and was given directions which took us the long, more gravel road route. Well needless to say by the time we reached Nosara we were in need of some help and encouragement. This is where our 5 star rating begins. A phone call very quickly got the ball rolling, and before we knew it we were chasing Marcus, Steve's friend, to our destination. When we arrived at our PRIVATE Vista Pacifica we soon accepted that lost luggage was not as big an obstacle as initially thought. This little gem surrounded by rain forest was exactly what we needed to wind down from our hard work and stress back home and our initial experience in Costa Rica. Thanks Steve and Marcus for you hospitality, your promptness and for providing such a magical little space in this sometimes crazy world. Costa Rica please do not change and if you must change please take your time! Hey Marcus, thanks for your invitation to your beautiful home and the wonderful organic down to earth atmosphere you provided while watching the sun set at the end of your magical infinite pool! You guys are great!
All I can say is: wow. This could be one of the most peaceful places I've ever been. The quality of quiet and serenity in this place is priceless. The front porch provided an incredible sunrise complete with howler monkey songs and a gorgeous ocean view, as well as the most beautiful sunsets of incredible color and light with a bat display that was really quite impressive. Stargazing was INCREDIBLE in this place. The house itself is designed in beautiful harmony with nature. Windows and screens so you are always surrounded by blue skies, the green of nature, and the endless ocean ahead. Everyday there were visits by birds, iguanas, lizards, and even some friendly coati mundi's checking out the scene. The bed was incredibly cozy, the outdoor shower was HEAVEN, and the kitchen provided all the necessary amenities to make a mean eggs, patacones, and gallo pinto every morning. (Just don't leave food out or you will become very friendly with a whole bunch of ants.) Yes, there are critters and bugs, and, yes, they are indoor and outdoor. But if you are adventurous in spirit and in harmony with Mother Earth, they just add to the experience. Get your groceries in Santa Cruz and shack up in the house. You barely need to go anywhere else. If you are planning to explore other areas, get something with a little better suspension than the tiny Hyundai I had! This place has an incredibly special place in my heart and I hope to return. Many thanks to Steven for waiting patiently while we tried to figure out how the heck to get to where we needed to be in San Juanillo and for the orientation to the house. Thankfully, we didn't need a thing from him the entire trip, but we were offered his assistance if we did, and I'm sure he would've been incredibly accommodating. Thank you a million times for sharing this piece of paradise. What a beautiful house in the most beautiful of places.
We had a wonderful time at the Vista Pacifica house. Steven was very helpful and informative. The views you get from the porch are breathtaking morning, noon and night. If your looking to "get away from it all" this this the house. The local beaches in town are very charming and while you are some what isolated up the hill most of your needs are with in 20-30 minutes.
We spend 3 weeks with our 4-month old baby in the beautiful small house, overlooking the jungle, all the way down to the Pacific Ocean – just as the pictures show. Hanging out on the porch, watching the sunset, listening to the howler monkeys or working at the wooden desk, was amazing.
The house is very well equipped with everything you will need. There's an A/C and ceiling fans which came handy in the hot afternoons. There are all sorts of kitchen appliances, hot water is always running, and the huge bed is very comfortable.
As the house is situated within a small nature reserve you hardly hear anything except wildlife and the wind in the trees around you. But you should also be prepared to encounter critters.
We strongly recommend to bring a 4x4 car as the roads are in pretty rough shape and driving to the beautiful beaches of Pelada and Guiones or to the supermarket in Nosara may take quiet some time with a regular car. (With a 4x4 and some practise we made it to Nosara in about 30 min.)
Steven was very helpful, flexible and always within reach if needed – a super nice host, thank you!
Stevie is the man. Not that everyone should expect to be able to, but Stevie was super accommodating in letting us into the place a little bit early on the day of our arrival. After a long day of travel, this was a very nice surprise. He gave us some great local knowledge of places to see, eat, etc. Stevie went above and beyond to make us feel comfortable and relaxed.
My fiancé and I could not ask for a better vacation than we experienced here. The house is about a 5 minute drive from Playa Ostional which is a beautiful black sand beach where we were able to see some of the turtles hatching. There were also decent waves for surfing and NO CROWDS here. 10 minutes from the house in the other direction is the charming town of San Juanillo. There is a pedestrian only beach that is white sand, great for swimming/snorkeling, has trees that provide shade on the beach, and is excellent for checking out the tide pools. San Juanillo has a few good restaurants and a store that has most of the essentials.
25 minutes south of the house is the very popular Playa Guiones and the town of Nosara. This is a great place to rent surfboards, eat good food, stock up on groceries, go horseback riding, paddle boarding, deep sea fishing, etc. We actually thought that this house was closer to Guiones and Nosara, but we quickly realized that it was ideal to be away from the crowds with only the sounds of the jungle to fall asleep and wake up to. We spent many, many hours lounging on the porch. There is a nice couch and great hammock. We saw a bunch of wildlife from the porch and didn't see another human from our property for the entire 10 day stay.
If you're looking for a secluded, romantic getaway in the jungle with access to beach activies...look no further. This place does require some sense of adventure, as there are definitely a few bugs and other creatures that also reside in the jungle. We got a few bites, but it really just felt like part of the experience. This is not the Four Seasons, but I thought it had every luxury you need (hot shower, kitchen, comfy king bed, killer views) and nothing you don't need.
If you go, definitely check out Playa Pelada (20 minutes from the house by car) and have a meal at La Luna. I recommend lunch with a couple of margaritas. Priceless.
I'd definitely recommend renting a car. The roads are not excellent, but they are kind of fun to drive on once you get used to dodging potholes. There are a couple of river crossings, but they are doable with a 2WD in the dry season. 4WD with some clearance would be ideal, but we did just fine with a little Toyota Yaris.
We'll probably be back. Thanks, Stevie!

Thanks so much for all the kind words!!!! I'm so happy you and Mark enjoyed your stay. It really means a lot to me that you wrote such a nice review! I feel bad that I didn't write a whole lot on your review because I've been so busy and a little tired. It was a pleasure meeting you guys and I hope to see you back again sometime!
