Enjoy the ocean in our 2-bedroom beachfront casita that offers spectacular ocean views and authentic Mexican furnishings and construction. Besides being a private home (not condo), what sets this home apart is a prime location in the middle of Santiago Bay and the rustic charm of palapa living.
In addition to the main casita, a second 20’ x 20’ open-air palapa located next to the sea wall offers a dining area and simple outdoor kitchen with sink and gas grill.
The simple but clean casita has 2 bedrooms, a dining/kitchenette area, and a small living room area. Authentic “rustico” furniture and Mexican dishes, glassware, and decorations add to your experience. Appliance and cookware are all newly (website hidden), high speed internet connection, and two twin size mattresses are provided as well.
Situated on a gently sloping sandy beach, children and adults will enjoy safe swimming, body boarding, stunning sunsets, and few foreign tourists. The 3-mile long beach is also perfect for walks, playing in the surf, or watching fishermen in pangas lay their nets. At times dolphins and whales are visible. The Mexican community of Santiago is two blocks away. Here you can explore a traditional market with fresh produce and seafood; you can also board inexpensive taxis or buses to various sites including three large nearby “American style” grocery stores including a Walmart.
Purified drinking water, bath towels, and all bed linens are provided. Please bring your own beach towel. The casita is cleaned every week but more frequent cleanings are available for an extra charge. Smoking is not permitted inside the casita and no pets are allowed.
Interaction with Guests
Our friendly English-speaking caretakers, the Martinez family, will greet you upon your arrival at our Casita de la Playa. They are also available day or night should any issues arise.
A public bus stop is two blocks away and buses run every 4-5 minutes. Taxi cabs are readily available, reliable, safe, and inexpensive.
La Casita de la Playa was a wonderful way to enjoy Manzanillo. Flawlessly manicured and beautifully decorated with authentic Mexican flair, we were immediately taken by the relaxing and ever-present sound of crashing waves on the beach. The kitchen is well stocked with equipment, dishes and spices while the living room has an eclectic literary and boardgame collection ready for your enjoyment. The A/C works very efficiently if you are in need of a break from the warmth (we hardly used it as we were there to enjoy the heat!).
The only quirk that may be an issue for some is that the bathroom is separate from the house, making late night visits trickier as one must unlock both the house and bathroom doors to complete their business.
The next-door neighbor Dave is a very friendly man full of wisdom about the area - he makes a great addition to the local guidebooks available in the casita. La Casita de la Playa will definitely be at the top of our list in our next trip to the beautiful state of Colima.
This was a great experience for me and my wife. Everything was as described/presented, and we loved our stay at La casita: we loved every moment of it. Armando was there when we needed him and gave us a lot of helpful information about the neighborhood / city.
I highly recommend La Casita de la Plaja to anyone who wants a beautiful, relaxing holiday right on the beach in Manzanillo Mexico.
We had a terrific time at Jay's place in Manzanillo. The house was neat, cozy, and right on the beach. We thought having a kitchen outdoors would be a lot of fun, and it was. We ended up spending the majority of our time hanging out on the back patio with drinks in hand, watching the waves roll in. That is, until Hurricane Vance decided to come our way...! The last night of our stay we had some high winds and lots of rain. The house stayed dry, however, and by the morning, the storm had passed us by. Thanks for a great stay!
On The Beach or Location, location, location! This is your spot!
The casita and outdoor kitchen and bath are well supplied, clean, and a wonderful experience . I actually enjoyed washing the dishes to the crash of the waves and looking over my shoulder at same was marvelous. For relief from the humidity the casita has a/c. Wi Fi worked. Armando the casita manager speaks English and is knowledgable, attentive, very welcoming. Also all our pre rental communication with the owner was spot on. What you see on the Internet site is true to what one actually gets. There is a marvelous guide in the casita complete with maps to nearby towns and I recommend you visit them. We did and it made for a great time. For people with children this close to the beach location is ideal and the casita easily can accommodate a family of four. Also for down time the yard is quite lovely, peaceful, and again the view, and what sunsets!

I'm a college professor who loves travel and especially to Mexico. Manzanillo is a perfect place in my estimation because it still feels authentic and isn't too touristy.
