About this listing
Huge basement studio apartment just 2 BLOCKS FROM TIMES SQUARE. Has private entrance & bathroom, in-room fridge with access to shared kitchen upstairs, subway station on the same block & room for 2 extra guests on airbeds on the floor. Beats a hotel!
~ PERFECT FOR BUSINESS OR PLEASURE TRAVEL ~
You can rent my huge basement room with its OWN PRIVATE BATHROOM in a 2 floor, 2 BR duplex apartment. Basically, it's like a studio apartment (with no kitchen) that is attached through internal stairs to the 1BR apartment (with a kitchen) above. The room has a door that leads to the internal apartment stairs, as well as its own private exit, which leads to the building's basement hallway and then out. The room has a queen-sized bed in it, but has TONS more open space that easily accomodates two single-person air mattresses, which I can provide.
The basement room and bathroom are what you are renting, and the door to the upstairs can be locked by you. Should you need more fridge space or access to the stove or microwave, you are welcome to come upstairs and use the kitchen shared with my roommate and me. There is a TV with HDMI cable hookup in your room. Both floors have high-speed wireless.
This amazing space is in an amazing location, just steps away from Times Square, A, C, E, N, R, Q, S, 1, 2 3 and 7 Subway lines, restaurants, bars and theaters. My best roommate and I live upstairs, which our own separate entrance, bedroom and bathroom so you really will never run into us except to receive and return the keys, or if you'd like some advice about our awesome city.
This space is huge and flexible (and I personally love it), but keep in mind that it is also in our building's basement, near the washing machines, and partially under the main hallway of the building's first floor. If you are a light sleeper or easily bothered by noise outside the apartment, this is probably not the rental for you. The room has alot of installed lighting to compensate for the lack of natural light (only one small window), so you can make the room as bright or dim as you wish, but you won't see the sun from the bed. That said, even though the room is large, it still has a coziness that's amazing when you need a relaxing break from the excitement of Manhattan.
This rental is a great deal if you are visiting and want a spacious, comfortable, conveniently-located "home base" while visiting NYC.
You have full access to the big room pictured, with the queen-sized bed shown, as well as its private bathroom and entrance. Third and fourth guests will sleep on airbeds that I will make up on the floor in that same room. The private bathroom is yours, and you may use part of the walk-in closet to hang things. The room contains a small dorm-sized fridge, HDMI-equipped TV, coffee maker, air purifier, air conditioner, all linens and towels, and a hair dryer. A larger refrigerator, burners, and microwave are available to be shared upstairs.
Interaction with Guests
In most cases, I will greet my guests upon arrival. If I cannot be there, I will make best efforts to have my roommate or a good friend there to meet guests. As a worst-case scenario. I will leave keys in a secure key box on the building, and I will send instructions on access.
Besides that, I'm either physically present or accessible by call or text to help my guests with the apartment, advice about New York City, or anything else they might need. I love my CIty and love sharing what I know about it.
Subway station on the same block, with access to 10 subway lines. Also, Port Authority Bus Terminal is 1 block away.
We had some major problems with guests abusing our hospitality and generosity in the past, so these are very detailed:
My roommate, who lives in a bedroom upstairs, and I both take great pride in making sure our guests have a great experience staying in our home. We ask that guests just also treat us and our home with respect as well.
-- No pets.
-- No smoking in the apartment. You must go outside to the front of the building if you want to smoke.
-- The common areas (living room, kitchen, computer, hallway) are to be kept clear of all personal items at all times.
-- Please don't go into parts of the apartment with closed doors. Most likely, my roommate lives in this space, and he should be allowed to have his privacy.
-- All food items must be discarded immediately upon consumption in the building garbage or stored in proper, sealed containers in the refrigerator and any dishes used should be cleaned and stored in the appropriate areas. We love having you as guests, but we REALLY are trying to prevent bugs as guests as well.
-- People other than those who are on the reservation are not allowed in our building without prior approval. This approval must be in writing (an email would be fine), so there's documentation.
-- Noise levels are to be kept at respectable levels; this includes music, games and conversations.
Please note check in (2:00 pm) and check out (noon) times. While I usually can help you with bag storage before check in and after check out WITHIN REASON, this is not a guarantee. While I am happy to provide this service, usually I have to be present for this to happen, because I won't always have extra keys.. Please don't ask to come drop off at some time super early in the morning and don't be late for any prearranged time we set to pick up your bags.
Some of these rules may seem obvious to you, but I just had to make them official. Please respect our space as a home, not a hotel, because we consider you to be much more than just a hotel guest, and we will go out of our way to treat you as such.
