We returned from vacation on August 23, 2015, and would like to share this information hoping it could be useful. This is the 3rd venue we have rented in PR this summer, as we spent the beginning of our vacation in SJ and Vieques. We spend 11 days in PR at a relevantly modest apartment and a house and DID NOT have any complaints before we moved into this place.
Please note, that to give the apartment some credit, the photographs of the venue and this beautiful view are true. The apartment is facing the front of the bay and this was (at least for us) its only advantage.
The apartment is very outdated. We had a feeling that once someone cared about it a lot putting up all the painting, etc., but it is not longer so. The bathroom smells horrible. The first day I thought it was a sewage issue and contacted the owner, but apparently it is a regular bathroom smell coming and going all the time. It got to the point that we showered at the swimming pool showers when it was possible. This however would be a lesser problem if the owner would react to our request to bring some air fresheners which would at least decrease the nasty smell. Apart from the smell, the owner refused to offer basic cleaning supplies, including at least dish washing liquid, a dish washing cloth, paper towels, etc. We kindly asked Leida to provide these basic things, as well as to fix the coffee maker (which is broken and terribly old), bring bathroom mat (was absent), additional towels, beach chairs (that were promised in the description) and air fresheners, which she refused to do. My husband had a conversation with her over the phone. We were hoping Leida would hear us and be willing to fix the issues, but the host was not willing to do either, except offering us (including a 7 year old child) to leave. This is a very disappointing approach, that I did not experience while renting apartments before. The host should be interested in making the apartment comfortable and be flexible to answer some basic requests. The apartment is full of nasty stuff, I even took a photo of the ironing board that is offered to the guests. It is disgusting as well as the curtains in the bedroom and the wardrobe full of the owner's old staff. We spent 5 full days in this apartment trying to minimize our time inside. We also didn't like the "beach," but this is very subjective unlike my previous comments regarding the apartment. It is a narrow strip of still, smelly not-that-salty water full of trash including plastic cups and cans on the sea bed. It looks great on the photo, but if you would like to stay at a real beach, do not stay here. I hope the owner fixes the listed issues, and improves her services for future guests. Good luck!
When Maryna booked she wrote and quote ". I see you are taking a good care of the apartment, we are a clean One". But I am very disappointed because this was far from reality, since Mayra and her family have been the worst guest I have had in all the years renting my condo. When housekeeper sent me picture of how the apartment was left I was in shook.
After multiple conversations by inbox and phone the ckin arrived and since the first day it was complaint after complaint, we try to please them and try to make there stay pleasant but still not happy. We even offer them to book in another place and we would reimburse complete amount paid and they said they like the place that it was ok for them to stay. The husband called to threat me because I did not not offer dishwasher soap or a sponge or washing machine soap. We do not provide these things and it is clearly stated, if a guest bye and leave it in the apartment we leave it there as a started for the next guest, this have never been an issue with guest before as for guest have always to do there groceries.
The first morning Maryna wrote saying the coffee maker was too slow (most of these machines are slow), there was not enough towels (which there was), no dish washer soap, no mat for the beach (housekeeper sent a pic of the mats) and that there was a bad smell coming from the bathroom. We immediately contact housekeeper that had been in the apartment the day before and stated there was enough towels, there was some dish washer soap plus a sponge and that the day before was no smell. When I contact Maryna I advise my conversation with housekeeper and would contact the administration because probably the smell could be a condominium problem which I don't have control. Then she stated the smell had gone.
On the afternoon the husband called me very angry and yelling at me threating to make a complaint, he stated the coffee maker was damaged and he wanted dish washer soap and a sponge, since he did not let me talk my husband took the phone, after a while that my husband tried to talk because he was yelling, my husband ask what could we do to make there stay pleasant he laughed sarcastic and answer a coffee maker. So we told him that next day we would send housekeeper to check the coffee maker because the day before it was working and his wife stated it was working and she would bring a new one. The next day I text Maryna to advise the housekeeper was sick and that I was sending my Sister and beside the coffee maker she would bring dishwasher soap and a sponge! She wrote saying they were making coffee and there was no need for that. These guest left the apartment so dirty and messy that I had to send 3 person to clean and disinfect the apartment. The refrigerated was stack with damage food, there was blood on blankets, sand all over the apartment, all counters stained, plus all dishes used during the week were left with food and leftovers, the balcony table completely stained, I can keep on and would not finish! Ah, they broke the coffee maker plus the refrigerator door was unscrew.
The answer for Maryna to leave a disaster in the apartment is that she paid cleaning fee. I would NOT RECOMMED MARYNA KAVALEUSKAYA and HER HUSBAND! I have evidence and picture of the disaster made left by these guests.
Still today these persons are still complaining and threating me by inbox the worse stating she works for a law firm.
We tried and tried and tried to please Maryna and her husband but they refused to accept ! We do not have the fault of that!
The waters of the Caribbean are calm and beautiful, we have guests that year after year come stay at our condo sometime twice per year and even more than that we have lots of guests that are recommended by past guests. The condo and beach is at it looks in pictures, great sunsets, great songs of the smooth waves its a paradise !
Just wanted to say that the place was amazing!! Paradise!! Very nice and clean!!
Beautiful beaches! And what a view !! Can't wait to go back!!
This place, was everything we needed, The location was great to spend time at the beach and at the multiple restaurants in the Joyuda área, great stay for touring the West side of the island. The apartment was clean and the kitchen was equiped with everything we needed to cook a great metal, supermarket is a 5 min drive, you can rent kayaks or paddle boards close to the near by isla ratones and spend the day snorkeling in the corals surounding the island. The host was attentive and responded quickly.
We greatly enjoyed our stay here. The apartment was clean and well-maintained, if a little dated, and the (presumably) new dryer works perfectly. The views are breathtaking and we watched the sunset every night. (Watch out for biting insects after the sun sets!)
It's located on Joyuda road, right on the Carribean coast, just up the road from a string of popular restaurants and a Selectos grocery store that sells fresh meat and produce and everything else you might need for the kitchen. It was a great "home base" for day trips to Cabo Rojo (the lighthouse and adjacent beach), Boqueron (fresh oysters and a friendly public beach), Rincon, La Parguera (bio bay), and more. As other reviewers have mentioned, a car is an absolute must-have!
Our three major complaints are as follows: (1) The pool was closed for maintenance and this was not communicated to us ahead of time. It was a big factor in us choosing this listing and we would have appreciated an option to cancel and stay elsewhere. Otherwise, the hosts were responsive, clear, and accommodating. (2) Occasionally the power would go (mostly) out, leaving enough electricity for dim lights but not enough for the air conditioners, so just be aware of that possibility. (3) The beach is quite accessible, but not very private, not very walkable, and not very nice. Large families would spend all day on the beach, leaving behind a lot of litter and even some broken glass. Obviously I don't begrudge the locals access to their own beach, but I wouldn't describe it as "private" or even "semi-private" and we wished it were more well maintained.
At any rate, this place was amazing and we had a great time! Highly recommended.
"Paradise at the Beach" sums up our experience. We were looking for a relaxing time and space for a personal retreat, and a place from which to explore the western end of Puerto Rico; Sylvain's place was perfect.
Our evening entertainment, prior to eating the excellent local seafood, was to sit on the balcony and watch the sunset - spectacular!
The hosts responded quickly and accurately to our few questions prior to arrival, and they were able to let us extend our stay by a day on very short notice. We liked it so much we just didn't want to leave!
My brother, cousin and I had to fly back home to Mayaguez for a family emergency and we figured lodging by our favorite coast would be a perfect way to heal. We booked the apartment on the day we had to fly out to Puerto Rico and our host was understanding and let us stay on such a short notice. The apartment was everything we needed! Every morning we went down to the beach before heading to the hospital to see our abuelita. The apartment was clean, comfortable and stocked with all the essentials. We look forward to staying here again in the future.
