The Space

'Glendree Cottage' is on a rural scenic hillside near Shannon, Galway, Limerick and only a one hour drive to the spectacular Atlantic coast. This welcoming natural stone cottage is secluded among rolling hills and named after the area, Glendree, 'Glen of Druids'. It's ideal for a quick 'Get away from it all' break away, holiday or even work such as writing, blogging, painting or photography, as it is cosy, quiet and self contained. It is also an ideal base for exploring all the places of interest, Loop head, The Burren, Lough Derg, Cliffs of Moher are all within a 1 hour drive.
I live beside the cottage and although I like to meet my guests I also respect your privacy and you have the comfort of knowing that you are not entirely alone, on this calm country hillside.
The self catering cottage is Open plan with a loft space bedroom; please take note of the rustic and securely fixed wooden ladder as seen in the photos. The bed is a comfortable mattress on the floor as the height of a full bed would be too near the ceiling. There is also a single bed if needed downstairs, if you like to use this bed, please ask and extra linens will be provided.
The bathroom is in a separate room and the kitchen is in the main room which has a high airy ceiling.
There is a welcome basket of tea, coffee, scones, butter & jam, the usual condiments and fresh water on tap from a natural spring well. Organic seasonal vegetables can be found on a stall just across the road, run on trust, you just put the money in an honesty box on the table.
WiFi is installed in the cottage, the heating is SOLID FUEL with the option of an electric heater. Hairdryer, iron and washing machine too.
The kitchen has a small stock of tea, coffee, sugar, spices and oil so that you can enjoy a home cooked meal without having to buy all those little necessary ingredients.
If you are arriving late in the day with no time for a grocery shop, you can email me a list of items in advance and I will be happy to pick up what is required.
In the nearby area there are many scenic walks, music, horse riding, fishing, golf, restaurants and local pubs to enjoy.
I live and work here at Druid cottage, designing and handcrafting landscape inspired shawls and other accessories. Using only pure natural yarns that are super soft and kind to sensitive skin. My guests enjoy a 15% discount.(URL HIDDEN)
In the photo gallery you will find a selection of photos, some of which were taken by previous guests. A thank you to Sawrah for her blog:
PS.During the low season this cottage is available for long term letting for an agreed price. Contact for more information.

Guest Access

Guests have access to the garden, walks in the nearby area and on request my working studio. There is also a double room available in my section which is especially good as an overflow for when more than 3 friends or family wish to book the cottage. Like and review on (URL HIDDEN)

Interaction with Guests

I do enjoy interacting with the guests but mostly I allow guests their own personal space, coming into their home if invited or to light the fire if guests are out all day, needing warmth on their return. Lighting the fire is only available on request or possible when I am at home, otherwise the guest is fully responsible. Guests do enjoy the fire and those who have no experience of managing solid fuel do learn quickly.
Sometimes I'm available to spend a day out with guests or share an evening meal but mostly it is your holiday, take the day as you find it!

The Neighborhood

I love this neighborhood, the neighbors, along with the clean air, clean spring water, nature, space, calmness, small roads and country walks.
We also now have the local honesty shop just across the road, where you can buy seasonal organic veg and eggs from happy free range chickens!

Getting Around

Car hire is strongly recommended because of a limited public transport system, however, the community bus can be good for long term guests.
Often guests are a little apprehensive about driving on the left, especially after a long hall flight. A recommend Taxi service can pick you at Shannon airport and drop off again the next day to collect your car if necessary.

A born wanderer from Dublin I settled in Clare to raise my children and immerse myself in rural life and textiles. I’ve enjoyed some world travel and today I love to wander from France to Ireland and back again, walking hills and coastal paths gathering inspiration for my work and enjoying locally produced organic food, and a good read by the fire at night. I also very much enjoy welcoming people to both my homes and offering help or advice on places to visit, allowing you your space as I appreciate mine.
