About this listing
A well equipped, open plan cottage where you can relax or study in it's cosy and quiet atmosphere. While also taking in the many walks or visit the nearby attractions. The Burren, Cliffs of Moher, Castles,Trad Music, Fishing, Golfing and lots more.
'Druid Cottage' is named after the area, Glendree, which means 'Glen of the Druids'. This natural stone cottage has been recently renovated and is located on a scenic hillside near Shannon, Galway, Limerick and only a one hour drive to the spectacular Atlantic coast.
I live next door with respect for guests space and although you will seldom see me, you have the comfort of knowing that you are not totally alone, on this peaceful rural hillside! It is ideal for a quick break away, holiday or work (research and writing) as it is quiet, remote but still within easy access to tourist spots.
This self catering cottage is Open plan with a loft space bedroom; please take note of the rustic and securely fixed wooden ladder as seen in the photos. The bed is a comfortable mattress on the floor as a full bed would be too high and near the ceiling. There is also a single bed downstairs, please ask and extra linen can be arranged if you need to use this bed.
The shower, toilet is in a separate room and the kitchen is in the main room with high airy ceiling.
There is a welcome basket of Tea Coffee, Scones, butter & jam, also enjoy fresh drinking water on tap from a natural spring well.
The heating is SOLID FUEL with the option of an electric heater. Also available are WiFi, hairdryer, iron and washing machine.
The kitchen has a small stock of tea, coffee, sugar, spices and oil so that you can enjoy a home cooked meal without having to buy all those little extra ingredients.
If you are arriving late in the day with no time for grocery shop you can email me a list of items in advance and I will be happy to pick up what is required.
In the nearby area there are many scenic walks, music, horse riding, fishing, golf, restaurants and local pubs to enjoy.
The cottage is beside my own house, where I live and work designing and making landscape inspired pieces of knit in pure natural yarns that are very, very super soft and kind to sensitive skin. My guests enjoy a 15% (website hidden)
In the photo gallery you will find a selection of photos, some of which are credited to the multi talented Lou Endicott from Melbourne, who last year enjoyed a stay at Druid Cottage. Thanks again Lou and also some new additions from this years guest Bernadette Jorden from Nova Scotia, Canada.
A new thank you to Sawrah for the following:
PS.During the low season this cottage is available for long term letting with an agreed price. Contact for info etc
Guests have access to the garden, walks in the nearby area and on request my studio. There is a double room available in my house for guests, it is especially good as an overflow for when more than 3 friends or family wish to book the (website hidden)

Interaction with Guests
I do enjoy interacting with the guests but mostly I leave people to themselves, coming into their home from home cottage only when invited or to light the fire if guests are out all day, needing warmth on their return, available on request when I am at home.
Sometimes available to spend the day out with guests or share an evening meal but mostly it is your holiday, take the day as you find it!
Amongst many reasons I love this neighbourhood, is the neighbours, along with the clean air, clean spring water, space, quietness, small roads and country walks.
We also now have a Local community shop just across where you can buy Organic veg and eggs from happy free range chickens!
Car hire is recommended as there is a very limited public transport system consisting of a community bus.
Often guests are a little apprehensive about driving on the left, especially after a long hall flight. I can recommend a Taxi service to pick you up and drop off again at Shannon airport again the next day for those coming on a late flight but also who wish to rent a car.
Other Things to Note
Please, notify approximate arrival time before arrival date.
Smoking outdoors only.
Car to be parked near the gate and not directly outside the door of my house except for loading and unloading.
Children are not allowed in the loft space for safety reasons and must be supervised at all times.
My cats are also not allowed in the loft space or bed for hygiene reasons and consideration for the next guests.
No parties or late night music.
From Jun 1 - Aug 31, 2015 the minimum stay is 3 nights.
We spent a wonderful week in Steph's cottage and were enticed to stay a little longer when we were forced to spontaneously change our travel plans on the last day. Steph herself was very welcoming, friendly and helpful but never intrusive.
The cottage itself was much bigger than you would imagine from the pictures, and well equipped - I know many homes that aren't nearly that cozy. The peat oven and friendly cat Smudge certainly increased that factor :)
We had no problem finding our way around (following Steph's very detailed instructions - I can also only suggest anybody who has an iPad to bring it along, it helped us navigate in places where no GPS or map would help). I thought I would struggle to spend a week here but could easily have stayed much longer (that really says a lot, we're city girls through and through - I consider anywhere that's further than a 10 min walk from a bus stop/train station 'remote' ;))
Staying in East Clare was a great eye opener of how there are part of Ireland that are still virtually unspoilt by the mass tourism that can grip hold of the island in the summer season. That said, getting anywhere within Clare and Galway was easy and the surrounding area and Lough Derg are worth a visit/walk to!
Our host wasn't there when we arrived. By the time she got there we had realized that the cottage wasn't going to meet our needs and immediately asked it we could leave a day early. She said that we could. However, when we left a day early she didn't offer us any type of refund for leaving early, despite the many inconveniences.
It is very important to me that guests enjoy their stay my reviews speak volumes. I’m always happy and willing to help a guest with any issue they may have either within the cottage or their travel plans. Airbnb has a clearly stated cancellation policy which I assumed Sheryl had read when making her booking, she didn’t qualify for a refund at this time and I wasn't made aware of any inconveniences until they were leaving.
We can’t rely on GPS here; I send every guest clearly detailed written directions for them to print or have in their phones and ask to be informed of arrival time. On this occasion I was dealing with an urgent family matter and had left keys and a note for her.
I will always help if asked and demonstrate how to get the best from the much loved solid fuel stove, there is also an electric heater available. Most guests like the smell of the Peat as it is uniquely evocative of their stay in Ireland (I believe peat incense sticks are now available)
The recycling procedure is mostly for long stay guests. I did say to her not to worry too much about it as she was on holiday and only staying 2 (website hidden) the WiFi issue, it would have been nice to have been informed when the issue arose so that it could have been resolved rather than when she was leaving.
The guests after Sheryl, through another company, really enjoyed their stay, felt at home and said that they will definitely be back!
I stayed here once a few years ago and wanted to come back- it is so peaceful and quaint. As before, the place is everything and more and I love having the cats around and all the touches that make one welcome. Stephanie is a wonderful host and I wouldn't change a thing. I'm sure I will be back again.
We loved our stay in Stephanie's cottage. From the welcoming plate of scones, to the warmth of the fire on our last night-everything was just right. The cottage is exactly as described, and provides a lovely experience of rural Ireland, including wandering cows! The beds are deeply comfortable, and it was wonderful to relax in the peace and quiet after a day exploring. We could have stayed forever.
Stephanie was a helpful and unobtrusive host, and we particularly appreciated her help with our washing, when we discovered that coin laundrettes are unknown in rural Ireland.Thank you!
My husband and I loved our time at Stephanie's cottage. Stephanie was wonderfully hospitable, her property is lush and peaceful, and the cottage we stayed in was tidy and cozy. The only downside to Stephanie's place was the shower - the hot water was limited to about 5-7 minutes. Quick showers aside, my husband and I couldn't have been happier with our decision to stay at Stephanie's cottage.
Herzlichen Danke, Steph. It was very nice to stay in your charming Cottage.
Everything was perfect....Steph is a great host and talented fiber artist. Cottage is cozy and secluded. The perfect to take a breather.

About the Host, Stephanie
Dublin born I moved to Co.Clare in 1978 to immerse myself in my passion of textiles, taking delight in meeting a diverse range of clients and supplying some of the best galleries of Craft & Design in Ireland.
When I am not in Ireland with family, friends, work, trekking rolling hills and sparse beaches my second love is for France. All the Medival villages, Art Galleries , the Pyrenees all just call me back over and over again so I bought a little Studio there! I gather inspiration for my designs in Ireland and my dreams in France. I love to photograph anything that makes an impression on me, for instance in France it's the old doors and stone buildings, in Ireland it is the seascape images with sea plants, waves, rope, shells etc, which all later translate into a design through the use of the best quality luxuriously soft natural yarns.
I've managed to leave this beautiful green isle many times to visit far lands, these days 'Druid Cottage' enables me to meet interesting people from all over this beautiful globe many from places I have been and many are still in contact. I appreciate my home and family and feel very lucky to be living in such a wonderful place. I have great friends and neighbors and enjoy winter evenings by the fire with a good book or in the company of friends, either in France or Ireland.
The 5 things I cant live without are: family, friends, books, textiles and my good health naturally.
I loved traveling in Asia, Vietnam especially where the people are so genuine, curious and sociable. Love traveling everywhere cities, jungles, sea snorkeling.... my books include Stig Larsson, Kate Moss and many more especially those depicting cultural differences. Music depends on my mood and as for food I eat most everything depending how it is farmed. I like to shop local and see how the animals are cared for is important to me, still a bit reluctant to eat mammals.
My hosting consists of meeting people, which I enjoy but I also like to give people some space as I also really like my space, striving to enjoy this wonderful life and planet everyday.
Bye for now, hope to meet you someday.... check out my reviews!
