The Space

'Druid Cottage' is named after the area where it is situated, Glendree, which means 'Glen of the Druids'. This natural stone cottage has been recently renovated and is located on a scenic hillside near Shannon, Galway, Limerick and only a one hour drive to the spectacular Atlantic coast.
I respect others space and although you will seldom see me, you have the comfort of knowing that you are not totally alone, on this peaceful rural hillside! It is an ideal place for holiday or work (research and writing) as it is quiet and remote but still within easy access to tourist spots.
This self catering cottage is Open plan with a loft space bedroom; please take note of the rustic and securely fixed wooden ladder as seen in the photos. The bed is a comfortable mattress on the floor as a full bed would be too high and near the ceiling. There is also a single bed downstairs, please ask and extra linen can be arranged if you need to use this bed.
The shower, toilet is in a separate room and the kitchen is in the main room with high airy ceiling and you can enjoy fresh drinking water on tap from a natural spring well.
The heating is SOLID FUEL with the option of an electric heater. Also available are WiFi, hairdryer, iron and washing machine.
The kitchen has a small stock of tea, coffee, sugar, spices and oil so that you can enjoy a home cooked meal without having to buy all those little extra ingredients.
If you are arriving late in the day with no time for grocery shop you can email me a list of items in advance and I will be happy to pick up what is required.
In the nearby area there are many scenic walks, music, horse riding, fishing, golf, restaurants and local pubs to enjoy.
If you choose to come without a car I will collect and deliver to Shannon airport for half the price of a local Taxi, also shopping and fuel trips can be arranged.
The cottage is beside my own house, where I live and work designing and making landscape inspired pieces of knit in pure natural yarns that are very, very super soft and kind to sensitive skin. My guests enjoy a 15% (website hidden)
In the photo gallery you will find a selection of photos, some of which are credited to the multi talented Lou Endicott from Melbourne, who last year enjoyed a stay at Druid Cottage. Thanks again Lou and also some new additions from this years guest Bernadette Jorden from Nova Scotia, Canada.
A new thank you to Sawrah for the following:

Guest Access

Guests have access to the garden, walks in the nearby area and on request my house and studio.

Interaction with Guests

I do enjoy interacting with the guests but mostly I leave people to themselves, coming into their home from home cottage only when invited or to light the fire if guests are out all day, needing warmth on their return, available on request when I am at home nextdoor.
Sometimes available to spend the day out with guests or share an evening meal but mostly it is your holiday, take the day as you find it!

The Neighborhood

Amongst many reasons I love this neighbourhood for naturally, it's fantastic neighbours, along with the clean air, clean spring water, space, quietness, small roads and country walks.
We also now have a Local community shop just across where you can buy Organic veg and eggs from happy free range chickens!

Getting around

There is public transport but you need to book your ticket the night before....car hire is recommended for this peaceful rural setting.

  • We enjoyed staying at this beautiful stone cottage very much. The home is decorated with much love to detail so we felt very comfortable right from the beginning. It is located in a stunning landscape 15 mins by car from Tulla. You can do day trips from here to the Burren and Connemara National Parks but the neighborhood is worth seeing as well! Also, it was great to have our host, Stephanie, around. She looked after us in the most perfect way and provided great support with any issues or questions we had.

  • My girlfriend and I stayed with Steph and her partner Rob for four nights and we cannot say enough about the cottage and our hosts! Druid Cottage was the perfect "home base" for us after being in Dublin and Paris. The loft had everything we needed, Steph and Rob gave us great advice about where to go, stoked the fire when we were out for a long while, and chatting with Stephanie about her wares was wonderful as my partner is also a maker. We will absolutely be staying here again if the opportunity presents itself. Thanks so much again!

Thank you Stephanie, you are lovely!

Merci Ella, it is so good to see your review written in french and even with my very limited french I can see your positive joy shining through. So happy that you had a good visit even in the wet weather !!! Please try to visit again and book a night on the Aran Islands too. Best of good wishes, Steph

  • Druid Cottage is the perfect place for a secluded getaway. It's warm, comfortable and has a very cosy atmosphere with everything you need close to hand. Stephanie was a wonderful host. She left me to my own devices but was always available if I needed anything. The Burren and the Clare Coast are within easy reach by car. I'll definitely be returning soon.

  • Druid Cottage is a wonderful haven for anyone seeking some peace and quiet from the busy day-to-day life. Stephanie was a wonderful host and she had the fire lit for us when we arrived on a dark and stormy night - it felt a little bit like a fairy tale! Steph's cottage is super-comfy, with the wonderful loft-bedroom (which I totally fell in love with - now I want one, too!) and the surprisingly efficient little stove. It's a great place to practise some music, too, (we had brought our flutes) and the area is abundant with opportunities to go for a stroll, wander or hike. We went for a hike on part of the East Clare Way and got to see wedge-tombs, forrests and little streams and the other day we drove out to Loch Derg and hiked up Moylussa mountain which gave us great views of the area (despite the rainy day). After a really stressful week Druid Cottage and Steph's warm welcome was just what I needed. We'll definitely be back!

  • Highly recommended. A piece of Eden, complete with a loaded apple tree; however since it's in Ireland, there are no snakes. Unless you plan to stay and relax, I think you need a car. We had no trouble driving to the Burren, the Cliffs of Moher, the Doolin Cave, and the ferry to the Aran islands. Steph met us when we arrived, but she left town the next morning. We liked her immediately.

  • We spent three nights in Steph's fabulous Druid Cottage, and we wish we could have stayed there the whole vacation! The cottage is so beautiful and spacious (much bigger than it looks in the pictures, btw), the bed so comfortable, the decor and details so subtle and beautiful that it just feels like home, or actually even slightly better than that... The place has everything inside one very well designed open space: very large kitchen, nice dining table, living area, stove, bathroom with shower and above all, literally, the absolutely fantastic loft/bedroom, complete with tiny square window overlooking the fields and hills.
Its location in the heart of the midwest is ideal for day trips to dozens of unforgettable, well-known and even some not-so-well known Irish sights and treasures, like Lough Derg, Clonmacnoise abbey, the Rock of Cashel, Kilkenny, Limerick, the Burren and the famed Atlantic coast south of Galway, with Cliffs of Mother et al.
Steph is the ideal host, welcoming but discreet, and her cats are great characters in their own rights.
All in all, a true gem, at a bargain price.
Highly recommended for couples or small parties.

  • Druid Cottage is as charming and beautiful as it appears in the listing. It is ideally located in a beautiful, secluded part of County Clare and is a really luxurious place! I loved the sleeping loft and the peat-burning stove. The place was bright and comfy. I just loved it, and it was the perfect place to relax and recover (I got very ill on my second day in Ireland). Steph is a very gregarious and generous host and her cats are really cute and were wonderfully sneaky, slipping into the cottage to take naps! Druid Cottage is the perfect place to just "hole up" for a week, or to use as a jumping post for all of the great sites in County Clare like the Burren and the Cliffs of Moher. I hope to get back some day.

  • Steph was a wonderful host. Although this is a separate self catering cottage, she was always there to help out and chat. The cottage is brilliant! A perfect Irish getaway spot. You can easily see the county from here or stay in and rest and walk the lanes. There are lovely walks all around the area. There is a peat stove and a lofted bed in the cottage that add to the charm and experience. I felt at home immediately and wished I could have stayed longer. An absolute gem!

  • This was the perfect place to unwind, think, listen to music, and walk the hills. A great vacation spot, close to many attractions in Co. Clare, but also a very peaceful and private artist's retreat. Steph was so helpful and generous, with beautiful taste!

Born in Dublin I moved to Co.Clare in 1979 to create a small holding and emerse myself in my passion for textiles. Working from my home studio as a designer / maker with my own lable Saolré (lifecycle). I also love hill walking and especially like the atlantic coastline, stopping to catch images on my camera, which later translate into a design through the use of luxuriously soft natural yarns. I've managed to leave this beautiful green isle many times to visit far distant places and 'Druid Cottage' also enables me to meet interesting people from all over..I also like my home comforts especiallyI like being curled up by a wood fire on a winters night enjoying good book or company of friends. Druid cottage is a great spring board from where you can sample the wonderful scenary of Co. Clare and beyond or simply relax and enjoy what the nearby area has to offer while catching up on the reading, writing or sleep that you need to do. If you are (website hidden) to this page from another place you need to scroll down till you see Druid cottage on the left of the screen, then click on it and all will be revealed. Bye for now
