About this listing
Arrive home to your well equipped self catering cottage with warm peat fire, clean air and spring water. Nearby music, castles and megalithic sites. The wild Atlantic Way, Cliffs of Moher, Burren, Galway and Shannon region are all within a 1 hr drive.
'Druid Cottage' is linked to my house on a scenic hillside near Shannon, Galway, Limerick and only a one hour drive to the spectacular Atlantic coast. This welcoming natural stone cottage is secluded among rolling hills and named after the area, Glendree, which means 'Glen of Druids'. It's ideal for a quick break away, holiday or even work such as writing, blogging, painting or photography, as it is still within easy access to places of interest.
I respect the guests privacy and although you might only occasionally see me, you have the comfort of knowing that you are not entirely alone, on this calm country hillside.
The self catering cottage is Open plan with a loft space bedroom; please take note of the rustic and securely fixed wooden ladder as seen in the photos. The bed is a comfortable mattress on the floor as the height of a full bed would be too near the ceiling. There is also a single bed if needed downstairs, if you like to use this bed, please ask and extra linens will be provided.
The bathroom is in a separate room and the kitchen is in the main room which has a high airy ceiling.
There is a welcome basket of tea, coffee, scones, butter & jam, the usual condiments and fresh water on tap from a natural spring well. Organic seasonal vegetables can be found on a stall just across the road, run on trust, you just put the money in an honesty box on the table.
WiFi is installed in the cottage, the heating is SOLID FUEL with the option of an electric heater. Hairdryer, iron and washing machine too.
The kitchen has a small stock of tea, coffee, sugar, spices and oil so that you can enjoy a home cooked meal without having to buy all those little necessary ingredients.
If you are arriving late in the day with no time for a grocery shop, you can email me a list of items in advance and I will be happy to pick up what is required.
In the nearby area there are many scenic walks, music, horse riding, fishing, golf, restaurants and local pubs to enjoy.
I live and work here at Druid cottage, designing and handcrafting landscape inspired shawls and other accessories. Using only pure natural yarns that are super soft and kind to sensitive skin. My guests enjoy a 15% discount.(URL HIDDEN)
In the photo gallery you will find a selection of photos, some of which are credited to the multi talented Lou Endicott from Melbourne and also some new additions from guest Bernadette Jorden from Nova Scotia, Canada.
A thank you to Sawrah for her blogg:
PS.During the low season this cottage is available for long term letting with an agreed price. Contact for more information
Guests have access to the garden, walks in the nearby area and on request my working studio. There is also a double room available in my own house for guests, it is especially good as an overflow for when more than 3 friends or family wish to book the cottage. Like and review on (URL HIDDEN)
Interaction with Guests
I do enjoy interacting with the guests but mostly I allow guests their own personal space, coming into their home if invited or to light the fire if guests are out all day, needing warmth on their return. Lighting the fire is only available on request or possible when I am at home, otherwise the guest is fully responsible. Guests do enjoy the fire and those who have no experience of managing solid fuel do learn quickly.
Sometimes I'm available to spend a day out with guests or share an evening meal but mostly it is your holiday, take the day as you find it!
I love this neighborhood, the neighbors, along with the clean air, clean spring water, nature, space, calmness, small roads and country walks.
We also now have the local honesty shop just across the road, where you can buy seasonal organic veg and eggs from happy free range chickens!
Car hire is strongly recommended because of a limited public transport system, however, the community bus can be good for long term guests.
Often guests are a little apprehensive about driving on the left, especially after a long hall flight. A recommend Taxi service can pick you at Shannon airport and drop off again the next day to collect your car if necessary.
Other Things to Note
Please, notify approximate arrival time before the arrival date. We can discuss key whereabouts if I'm committed elsewhere at your arrival time.

Children must be supervised at all times especially if they are in the loft, they usually head up there straight away and love it!
My cats love it too and are forbidden in the loft space and downstairs bed as consideration for the next guests.
The cottage isn't for parties and music should be low after 11 am.
There is an extra €15 charge if using Netflix in the evenings as the band width needs to be increased.
Dublin born I moved to Co.Clare in 1978 to immerse myself in my passion of textiles, taking delight in meeting a diverse range of clients and supplying some of the best galleries of Craft & Design in Ireland.
When I am not in Ireland with family, friends, work, trekking rolling hills and sparse beaches my second love is for France. All the Medival villages, Art Galleries , the Pyrenees all just call me back over and over again so I bought a little Studio there! I gather inspiration for my designs in Ireland and my dreams in France. I love to photograph anything that makes an impression on me, for instance in France it's the old doors and stone buildings, in Ireland it is the seascape images with sea plants, waves, rope, shells etc, which all later translate into a design through the use of the best quality luxuriously soft natural yarns.
I've managed to leave this beautiful green isle many times to visit far lands, these days 'Druid Cottage' enables me to meet interesting people from all over this beautiful globe many from places I have been and many are still in contact. I appreciate my home and family and feel very lucky to be living in such a wonderful place. I have great friends and neighbors and enjoy winter evenings by the fire with a good book or in the company of friends, either in France or Ireland.
The 5 things I cant live without are: family, friends, books, textiles and my good health naturally.
I loved traveling in Asia, Vietnam especially where the people are so genuine, curious and sociable. Love traveling everywhere cities, jungles, sea snorkeling.... my books include Stig Larsson, Kate Moss and many more especially those depicting cultural differences. Music depends on my mood and as for food I eat most everything depending how it is farmed. I like to shop local and see how the animals are cared for is important to me, still a bit reluctant to eat mammals.
My hosting consists of meeting people, which I enjoy but I also like to give people some space as I also really like my space, striving to enjoy this wonderful life and planet everyday.
Bye for now, hope to meet you someday.... check out my reviews!
