'Druid Cottage' is named after the area, Glendree, which means 'Glen of the Druids'. This natural stone cottage has been recently renovated and is located on a scenic hillside near Shannon, Galway, Limerick and only a one hour drive to the spectacular Atlantic coast.
I live next door with respect for guests space and although you will seldom see me, you have the comfort of knowing that you are not totally alone, on this peaceful rural hillside! It is ideal fora quick break away, holiday or work (research and writing) as it is quiet, remote but still within easy access to tourist spots.
This self catering cottage is Open plan with a loft space bedroom; please take note of the rustic and securely fixed wooden ladder as seen in the photos. The bed is a comfortable mattress on the floor as a full bed would be too high and near the ceiling. There is also a single bed downstairs, please ask and extra linen can be arranged if you need to use this bed.
The shower, toilet is in a separate room and the kitchen is in the main room with high airy ceiling.
There is a welcome basket of Tea Coffee, Scones, butter & jam, also enjoy fresh drinking water on tap from a natural spring well.
The heating is SOLID FUEL with the option of an electric heater. Also available are WiFi, hairdryer, iron and washing machine.
The kitchen has a small stock of tea, coffee, sugar, spices and oil so that you can enjoy a home cooked meal without having to buy all those little extra ingredients.
If you are arriving late in the day with no time for grocery shop you can email me a list of items in advance and I will be happy to pick up what is required.
In the nearby area there are many scenic walks, music, horse riding, fishing, golf, restaurants and local pubs to enjoy.
The cottage is beside my own house, where I live and work designing and making landscape inspired pieces of knit in pure natural yarns that are very, very super soft and kind to sensitive skin. My guests enjoy a 15% (website hidden)
In the photo gallery you will find a selection of photos, some of which are credited to the multi talented Lou Endicott from Melbourne, who last year enjoyed a stay at Druid Cottage. Thanks again Lou and also some new additions from this years guest Bernadette Jorden from Nova Scotia, Canada.

Interaction with Guests
I do enjoy interacting with the guests but mostly I leave people to themselves, coming into their home from home cottage only when invited or to light the fire if guests are out all day, needing warmth on their return, available on request when I am at home.
Sometimes available to spend the day out with guests or share an evening meal but mostly it is your holiday, take the day as you find it!
Amongst many reasons I love this neighbourhood is the neighbours, along with the clean air, clean spring water, space, quietness, small roads and country walks.
We also now have a Local community shop just across where you can buy Organic veg and eggs from happy free range chickens!
There is limited public transport and you need to book your ticket the night before....car hire is recommended for this peaceful rural setting. I offer a pick off and drop off again at Shannon airport for those who wish to rent a car. Some people feel a little apprehensive about driving on the left, especially after a long hall flight. The charge for this service is €100 please request this when booking.

À faire et refaire !
Druid Cottage was absolutely beautiful as was the stay. The cottage is perfect and comfortable, and the scenery lovely. Unfortunately, my friend had a family emergency a day into our stay, and I was left alone. Steph was wonderful- checking up to make sure I was comfortable and inviting me over for lunch as well as driving me to town for groceries and the bus station when I had to leave a few days earlier than expected. This was my first experience with Airbnb, and she made the best first impression. I really appreciate everything she did to make my stay more comfortable, and when I return to Ireland in the fall I will of course be making a return.
I spent a month at this delightful cottage, in January. It was magical and beautiful and I loved it. Steph started out as my host, and ended up my friend. She is one of the most kind, gracious, wonderful people I have come across in my life.
I spent the first two weeks without a car. I wanted to soak up the feel of the place. During that time, Steph graciously included me in a few outings with her friends, took me on shopping and supply trips and made sure I was okay. Traveling solo, going half-way round the world alone can be a bit scary. But, she met me at the airport at 6:15am in the morning, and as soon as I saw her, I knew all would be well.
She taught me how to build a fire with peat briquettes. I relished the morning ritual of making the fire and getting my day started. I would often cozy up on the daybed writing or reading next to the fire. We had a few days of epic windstorms, Steph made sure to check in on me. When I would go out for the day, coming back to the cottage was such a welcoming sight. I think Steph lives in the best part of Ireland, and I saw a lot.Steph would often keep the fire going for me so I would come home to a warm place.
We shared more than a few cups of tea, and she shared her two cats with me, Smudge and Princess Puss. They would keep me company during the long nights when I would be up late and couldn't sleep. I loved climbing the loft to bed every night. I would fall asleep to the gentle sounds of the cattle and horses in the shed next door to the cottage.
I took a lot of long walks in those first few weeks, and got to know the countryside. It was lovely. We had snow! And there was a farm store right across the way and I bought a bag of potatoes, fresh kale and jam. Everything I had hoped it would be and more. I met a lot of people and a lot of animals. The dogs would all come out to say hi and see who was crossing their paths.
I love this place, and I cannot wait to come back. I warned Steph this would be a lengthy review, and so it is. County Clare is magic. And, take Steph's recommendations for what to do with your time. She always had wonderful ideas and recommendations that I might not have thought about. And, if I was gone for more than just the day, I would be sure to check-in with her. She made me feel so welcome, I never felt alone. I think my soul has found it's home in Ireland, and Druid's Cottage played a huge part in that. Thank you so much Steph!! I cannot wait to come back.
Druid Cottage is delightful! And Steph is a fantastic host. After a long day and a half of travel, I arrived to a warm cottage, fuel for the fire, nibbles and a nice hot water bottle to put me to sleep. The cottage is a perfect place for a quiet retreat--I am here to write and it is so cozy and welcoming I rarely want to leave, quite a perfect environment for my writing practice!
The bed and sleeping loft are comfy, the kitchen well-stocked for cooking, the little stove is warm, functional and quaint, the wifi works well and the cottage is warmly decorated with lamps, candles and colorful bits everywhere.
I couldn't be happier to have found such a great place. It is remote, a car is definitely necessary, but it is within just a ten minute drive to the nearby villages and within an hour to tons of great sights.
I can't recommend this space enough.
I had a great time staying at druids cottage. It is set in the heart of beautiful co. Clare. Perfect for a bit of glorious peace and quiet. The cottage itself is a great set up. I had the peat burning stove roaring each night and was even joined by Stephanie's very friendly cats each night.
Stephanie is a really nice host and our holidays were real ones in a magic place in the rainbow country. The cottage is a beautiful restful place near to cliffs of Moher and the Burren park two beautiful places to walk and to visit a part of Irland.
Steph was very welcoming and a delightful host. The cosy cottage is charming and filled with beautiful things...and also comfy beds, great little solid fuel heater, excellent kitchen facilities with lots of useful bits and pieces like olive oil, porridge, tea, coffee, etc. Steph gave us some excellent suggestions on where to lunch in the local villages on our way to various sights. Thank you, it was one of our best experiences in Ireland.

Dublin born I moved to Co.Clare in 1978 to immerse myself in my passion of textiles, taking delight in meeting a diverse range of clients and supplying some of the best galleries of Craft & Design in Ireland.
When I am not in Ireland with family, friends, work, trekking rolling hills and sparse beaches my second love is for France. All the Medival villages, Art Galleries , the Pyrenees all just call me back over and over again so I bought a little Studio there! I gather inspiration for my designs in Ireland and my dreams in France. I love to photograph anything that makes an impression on me, for instance in France it's the old doors and stone buildings, in Ireland it is the seascape images with sea plants, waves, rope, shells etc, which all later translate into a design through the use of the best quality luxuriously soft natural yarns.
I've managed to leave this beautiful green isle many times to visit far lands, these days 'Druid Cottage' enables me to meet interesting people from all over this beautiful globe many from places I have been and many are still in contact. I appreciate my home and family and feel very lucky to be living in such a wonderful place. I have great friends and neighbors and enjoy winter evenings by the fire with a good book or in the company of friends, either in France or Ireland.
The 5 things I cant live without are: family, friends, books, textiles and my good health naturally.
I loved traveling in Asia, Vietnam especially where the people are so genuine, curious and sociable. Love traveling everywhere cities, jungles, sea snorkeling.... my books include Stig Larsson, Kate Moss and many more especially those depicting cultural differences. Music depends on my mood and as for food I eat most everything depending how it is farmed. I like to shop local and see how the animals are cared for is important to me, still a bit reluctant to eat mammals.
My hosting consists of meeting people, which I enjoy but I also like to give people some space as I also really like my space, striving to enjoy this wonderful life and planet everyday.
Bye for now, hope to meet you someday.... check out my reviews!
