The Neighborhood

Airton is a peaceful village set in the heart of Malhamdale in the Yorkshire Dales National Park. There is a popular village store/farm shop and cafe which sells a good selection of basic provisions and local produce. Many of our guests have commented favourably on it.
A public footpath leads through the mill's wetland garden and the Pennine Way, less than 100m from the apartment's door, can be viewed from the main rooms. There is a never-ending variety of walks through the natural beauty of 'Calendar Girls' countryside. The area is popular with cyclists, walkers, horse-riders and climbers. You can ramble along the riverside to Malham's stunning cove, limestone pavement and tranquil tarn. During the summer months, there are numerous rural shows and music and art festivals. Museums, steam trains, ice-cream farm, falconry centre - the variety of activities ensures there will never be a dull moment, whatever the weather.

Getting around

There is a Dales bus service. Gargrave railway station is 4 miles from Airton. The market towns of Skipton and Settle are each about 20 minutes drive. Harrogate, Leeds and Bradford are all approximately an hour's drive.

  • This is an absolutely gorgeous apartment to stay in! My husband and 2 young kids (less than 2) stayed for the weekend. It is spacious, well equipped and in a lovely area of the Dales. The rooms are big, the beds comfy, and the setting was perfect. A home away from home.

Jesca was extremely prompt at replying to my emails and was able to provide a travel cot which was a godsend.

I would not hesitate to recommend this apartment to people, and have already done so to friends and family.

  • What a wonderful place for a relaxing holiday! The location was perfect for walking and exploring the dales. The living area of the apartment was spacious, with wonderful views over the stream and fields. The kitchen was well equipped and Jesca had thoughtfully provided us with milk, wine, bread, cheese and other local goodies. Little touches such as the fresh flowers, games and books were very welcoming.
The bedrooms were comfortable and with two bathrooms, this would make a great place for a family. It was certainly wonderful for us as a couple. Laundry facilities were also appreciated as we were travelling for a month.
Jesca was a great host who anticipated our every need. This was a delightful place to stay and we would love to return one day - a week was not long enough.
Mention must also be made of the wonderful farm shop at the end of the village. Chris and his staff were so friendly and helpful, suggesting day trips and places to eat. We started each day with a coffee there and by the end of the week, felt we had made new friends.

  • Jesca and family were such charming and lovely hosts, greeting us at the property and making everything easy. The place is really well set up, big open kitchen, and we'll need to come back for a month just to get more out of their finely chosen books and DVD collection! We left some clothes by mistake and Jesca was exceptionally kind returning them to us.

  • My friends and I had a lovely weekend in Jesca's beautiful house. It is decorated and furnished to a exceptionally high standard, and we especially appreciated the super comfy beds!

The location is wonderful, with great walks literally on the door step. Gordale Scar near Malham is a must see.

    Response from Jesca:

Thanks Tony. You're right about the chair - I will get a bench for the lawn outside and a couple of folding chairs so guests can use them on days out as well.
    Sorry again about Jan's name!

  • The apartment was really lovely, recently refurbished and very comfortable to relax in. Upstairs is open plan and was great to keep an eye on our toddler whilst we were cooking, eating etc. Very well equipped, plenty of extra towels and fabulous not to have to travel with all the little extra things, like tea, coffee and dishwasher tablets! Jesca was very good host organising keys and responding to our query letting us take a travel stair gate. Another reviewer mentioned there was no mobile phone reception in the apartment however there was free wifi which we connected to easily and my husband received a signal as soon as he walked up the bank so was not a problem for us.

Round and about the apartment, in Airton there is a lovely little tearooms/farm shop who were very accommodating with our little one. They offered highchair, water and a bowl and spoon to share our meal (lovely casserole for a rainy cold day) before I asked for anything. There was also an ice cream parlour/American diner around 20 minutes away which had a brilliant outdoor play park, for any visitors with young children. Lots of large wooden climbing toys, train, tractor, pirate ship, swings etc our little boy thought he was in heaven! I imagine this would be full to the brim in the school holidays. We also went to skipton and grassington which again were both around twenty minutes away. Hope to return again in the future, well recommended - great apartment and host and lovely base for exploring the dales.

  • I have had some very good experiences at airbnb but Jesca's apartment was by far the best! The apartment is located in a beautiful countryside with a brook flowing right behind it. The apartment itself has been recently refurbished and very tastefully furnished. What I was most impressed by was the level of cleanliness. I couldn't find a speck of dirt anywhere. Everything looked pretty much brand new to me. It was hard to believe that people had lived in that place before us.

I would highly recommend Jesca's place to anyone who wants to spend some time in the Dales.

  • Me and my partner Jamie stayed at the apartment for two nights. We were delighted with the apartment, its lovely and very well furnished. Having the river just outside the back door was amazing as it meant we could sit out and listen to the water with a glass of wine in hand on a nice evening. We enjoyed our stay so much that we've booked again for in a few weeks time!
Jesca is lovely host, shes friendly and very easy to communicate with.Thank you for having us both Jesca and we'll see you soon!
