The Space

This bungalow style studio is located in lush green landscaped surrounds in authentic Ubudian rice field neighbourhood. Please note the photos listed have been taken and verified by airbnb.

The studio is located on the sought after Penestan area, only a 5 minute ride from the hustle & bustle of down town Ubud. There are around a dozen charming little healthy food restaurants (Indonesian, Japanese, Vegetarian Organic/Raw, Indian, bakeries) within a few blocks from here.

This studio has one huge bedroom with separate kitchen, bathroom and 3 relaxation areas. There are 5 one bedroom houses in the private complex available for rental - all with their unique design and décor. And all share the newly built pool, gardens (full of coconut and mango trees) and outdoor relaxation areas, including a lovely, newly built pool. All 5 studio in the complex have 1 large bedroom, 1 bathroom, 1 kitchen and a balcony relaxation area. One of the houses also caters for a child with an additional single bed.

Pakir, a local born and bred Ubudian is the site manager of the complex. He can connect you with healers, yoga, scooter hire, local attractions and tours, all the best the restaurants or places to drink - or just simply his warm and quirky energy. Everybody loves Pakir - literally everybody. I am on site from time to time - however I usually live 2 hours south by the beach in The Bukit.

Please note. March, April, May, June, July, August, September & October are extremely busy months in Ubud. For this reason we are taking preference to bookings of 7 nights or more. But we may be able to make the odd exception if we can squeeze you in.

  • This is my second time staying at Green Tara, but not my last time! This permaculture farm is peaceful and quiet, lovely and makes me feel like home.

Everything about the property is beautiful, the rooms, the garden, the chilling area, the local restaurant across the street and the whole location itself. The location is good, quiet and local.

The cleanliness is taken care by Ketut who cleans your room and the property everyday, except on sundays. Tom and Raquel are always willing to help if there is something you have to ask about and longterm guests are also very helpful. Manta the private driver will drive you wherever you want to go or you could rent a scooter if you are only exploring the nearby area, well you must rent a scooter anyway if you ask me :)

If you are looking for a peaceful and nice place to stay near the beautiful beaches of Uluwatu, Green Eco Tara is the place to be.

  • Where to start?! Great place to stay if your looking for some long term cheap accom. Super friendly host and room mates make settling in to local scene a breeze. Amazing restaurant literally 5 metres away, you can actually just yell out your order and they will deliver it! Maybe if you are lucky Raquel will tell you about the secret items not included on the menu...

As for location, look no further. Situated in the centre of the Bukit gives you access to amazing beaches on both coasts and some lesser known ones if you are the adventurous type. All necessary comforts are close by like internet, super market and sushi. Also if you get a local SIM card (Sim Pati) reception is really good.

Basic rooms are comfortable with a bunch of different bathrooms to choose from. You can go for the authentic Balinese squatter or the good old European throne! Great staff ensure facilities are always clean and even make your bed for you on a daily basis!

If your looking for a chilled crew to hang with and get a bit of local knowledge, Raquel will hook you up because she is the BOSS of the Bukit!

Great place, good times, bloody bagus!

  • My stay at Green Tara began by attending an event run by Raquel at the farm for some local artists to get there work up on a wall at the property. It was an amazing event and the night was the perfect introduction to see the passion behind the project and to get to know the community. I was planning on staying for just one night…but after being immersed in it all for only 24 hours, I completely fell in love with everything this whole concept was about. And so I ended up there for 2 months!

I don't have enough words in the English language to describe the value of having stayed in this incredible place. It is difficult to express something to be read, which can only really be felt to be understood. I had the most richly engaging interactions every single day, with guests, friends of Green Tara, village locals and tourists alike. What I learnt there I will carry with me for the rest of my life, from the environment, permaculture, Bahasa Indonesia, motorbike riding, eco-tourism, surfing, the culture of Bali… and most of all about myself.

I truly feel that Raquel, Tommy, Ketut, Ika, Made and Kadek are some of the most genuine and kind hearted human beings I have ever met. And that is the thing you get when you stay here. It is human, it is connection, it is joy, it is family and above all else it is fun. All of the guests I met will be in my heart forever and I feel that I have formed some valuable and lifelong friendships.

If you are looking to escape on a journey of truth; to see the island of Bali in all of its many facets and to delve into the culture in an authentic and mindful way. I couldn't recommend a stay at Green Tara more highly. Not to mention that the local beaches are the absolute best on the island, the beauty of The Bukit is unparalleled for somewhere so liveable and with such an awesome vibe throughout the whole area. The things you will come away with from this magical pocket of peace, away from the hustle and bustle of the outside world, will not only stay with you forever in the memories created but in the practical application in your daily life upon coming home.

I truly look forward to going back to Bali, to see my beautiful friend Raquel, and to the home away from home that I have found in this amazing place. With all the love and thank you's in the whole universe!! xxx

  • Staying at Green Tara Eco was an amazing delight. It differs greatly from other places I have stayed at in Bali. What I like and would recommend about this site is the touch of awareness inherent throughout the property and the people it attracts.

There are no hard rules, however guidelines and directions that make one think little more. How to treat nature, be of as little harm as possible to her, learn more about growing vegetables - this was truly assume! My mornings started with going into the garden, picking tomatoes, chilli, spinach, and get some eggs from the local shop next door and make a nice omelette, doesn't get much fresher than that. Or the pasta with freshly picked rocket salad, tomatoes and basil, yum! When lazy, across the road is a great warung run by Made and his wife Kadek. Sweetest people serving great local food.

It was also pretty cool that no one used internet in the lounge areas; definitely created more interactions and interesting conversations. Big plus to that! The location I really liked, in the middle of a Balinese village, away from noise, rather it gave a more authentic experience, being surrounded by locals, getting to practise some Bahasa Indonesian and to see their life close up. If you are lucky, and there is a "bigger" Balinese ceremony, participate in that. Beautiful!

As a surfer, the location was perfect, 10-25 min to all the beaches and surf breaks in the Bukit (both west- and east coast). And also as a big fan of eating – perfect location - both local and western restaurant close by. The roads here in Bali are not very suited for walking. Tommy and Raquel help with both scooter and car hire, also scooter lessons.

There is much I could say about this site! I will end with how much I like Tommy and Raquel and of how much help they have been. The conversations with Tommy are always interesting, getting an insight of the culture and island, this guy has heaps of knowledge. And whenever help was needed, it was delivered with a gentle smile. The smiles in Indonesia are truly amazing. Kids and grown-ups never seem to stop smiling here. Beautiful!

I got to know Raquel well as she is living and working full time on the farm, and on other projects within the village, alongside her Balinese partner Tommy. She is very approachable, knowledgeable, and connected to the local community. She gives a lot of herself, and I hope that future guests appreciate that as much as I did - and not expect her time, or take advantage of it. Given the low cost to stay here, I truly felt she should be charging for some of the services and time she seems to offer simply as part of her helpful, caring nature. She has now become my closest friend here, and I have great respect and love for her and the work she does.

  • Very big room with kitchenette was great. However, as it was located right across the entrance and next to the main path leading to the others, it lacked privacy. The internet was very weak.
The pool area was also great, especially after a full day of sightseeing.
Communications with Tara were fast and efficient, but seemed lacking between her and Pakir, the actual host. I waited a long time at the rendezvous point, a bar where one of the employees went to get him. He didn't know exactly what time I was arriving, how long I was staying and even whether I had paid...
All in all, a mixed experience. Might be better suited for a couple or young family where the costs are justified by the kitchen and the space...

  • Excellent Place. I loved the more authentic atmosphere of the village, the beaches and the town around. Some facilities are a bit basic, but it is all with heart. Beds were new and great.

The Host Raquel is excellent and will help create an awesome experience for you. Our motorbikes where ready when we arrived, we could get into action immediately.

Also, the Warung Nur Jaya across the street is honestly the best value I found in Bali. The owners, Made and Kadek are the sweetest ever. And if you want to know a bit more about the real Bali, they are excellent in telling you about it, while you enjoy a great soup, noodles, fried chicken with a TehBotol.

    We stayed here a month,

PS: If you want a more Western Breakfast sometimes, I recommened Cafe Moka. Just ask Raquel how to get there.

Dear Jeroen, I've appreciated the company of all my long stay guests, but sometimes you just meet a person, and you know somehow that you're already spirit siblings. That's how it was for me when I got to know you, brother. Thanks for being you.

  • Local expat beach culture meets Eco-conscious living. Seems to attract friendly young travelers of a hippyish nature without being too dippy. I'm curious to see how the Eco-ness of it evolves? Raquel, the host was very helpful. She should charge for her concierge services. Nice little doggie around that likes to play. Very close to east side surf breaks. Simple accommodation and communal kitchen and bathroom.

  • The location is amazing...Raquel our host was very quick on getting back to us... we never got the chance to meet her. We did however have Suzy, she ran the Warung. She was so sweet and helped us with all our needs. This place is very rustic! If you are on a small budget and you are a surfer this is perfect. If you are not a surfer there is not much to do... it's a little far from everything.... if you want some quiet time from the hussle of Kuta.... it's a GEM!

  • We had an awesome time at Green Tara. Sam and I spent a month there and it was a great location from which to explore the Bukit, you will need a scooter though. It is a nice change from staying in any touristy places and it felt like we were part of a local community by the end of our stay.! We loved it

Writer, nature loving, people ponderer. I live on an amazing eco property in Bali's far south with my Balinese family. We're creating a tropical permaculture farm here. These days I spend most of my spare time planting seeds - both literally and metaphorically - with my Balinese partner, Tommy, who grew up in Uluwatu. I bought a motorcycle and named her Phylis. She gets a lot of attention around The Bukit. And rightly so - she's pretty hot. I have listed three properties on Air BnB. 1. The place where I live - Beachside Permaculture farm & villa 2. My friend Pakir's family compound of 5 self contained studios in Ubud. 3. My Balinese family's beach shack - a guest house directly on the beach.
