We truly enjoyed our stay at James' house! The suite is just as described in other reviews - spacious, private and clean! We did not find any bugs as pointed out by some previous guests. James was kind enough to pick us up, drop off at the airport and also ride us to the bike rental place. My wife made a new friend - PEPPER, a very friendly dog who loves to cuddle. Kevin gave us great suggestions for food in the area! I recommend this place for solo travelers as well as couples! Thank you for being a great host!
My experience at James' apt was totally negative: the apt was extremely dirty and shabby.
The main bedroom was full of cockroaches, insects and sand everywhere: the guardarobe smelt of mold (my clothes still smell of it) and we cannot have access to the little patio in front of the bedroom because of all spider nets and other dirt around. In addition, the sofa located in the foot of the bed smelt of dog.
The living room was dirty too: the mattress was very unconfortable and furniture had a lot of dust.
The kitchen was the worst part of the apt: cockroaches everywhere (on the floor, in the cutlery, among pots and pans, on the burners, in the sink), shelves were dirty inside (insects and dust) and outside (oil stain): it was terrible to cook there and we used to eat standing up or outside the apt on a little balcony. In addition, in the kitchen there was the cat litter!!! And cats were used to eat one of the shelves.
I cannot believe in all the previous positive descriptions: the apt is well located and James picked us up at the airport and gave us a lift to the supermarket, but the apt was extremely dirty and smelling. Please, do not go!
James and Kevin were very welcoming to their home and very kind to me. They came and picked me up from the Airport on my arrival which was most appreciated! The room is as described and as shown in the photograph. The air conditioning works very well and the en-suite bathroom is spacious and clean and plentifully stocked with fresh white towels. There is also a large walk-in closet. The room is separate from their part of the house and so one does not feel like one is intruding and one feels like one has one's own private space. There is also an small outdoor, shaded, courtyard with sun loungers with direct access from the room. The neighbourhood is very centrally located in Bermudian terms and is only a 5 minute walk to the bus stop on South Road and the beautiful Warwick Long Bay beach! An added bonus was their cute friendly Spaniel, Pepper and a number of cats that wondered over to their house all the time! I thoroughly recommend James' room for one to two people!
My husband and I really enjoyed our stay at James's home. The guest room is exactly as pictured, even better. James was also an excellent host proving bus tickets and even drove us to the airport. He is also a good historian! The location is awesome, the beach is a few minutes away and the bus stop as well. This was our first time staying in Bermuda through an Airbnb host and I am already looking forward to coming back!
James and Kevin were both very knowledgable of the island and helped us tremendously with getting around the island and showing us where to go. James picked us up from the airport on Sunday and dropped us off at the airport on our way out a week later. That was really helpful since it is about a 30 min drive from the house. The location of the house was good since the beach was right in front and it was a 25 min bus ride to Hamilton and 30 min to the dockyard. The only bad part was the house itself. It feels a little cramped when you try to fit 4 people in there since the couch is outside the bedroom and the closet is full of their stuff. We were a bit underwhelmed when we first showed up since the other reviews made it sound so nice, clean, and spacious. It is rather small, dirty, and they have boxes taking up space in the dining room and the closet. We were going to buy groceries when we first got there since food is rather expensive on the island, but James told us the fridge was broken and had been for a couple of weeks. He then gave us a cooler to put our food in and he bought a small fridge a couple of days later. The kitchen was good and they let us use everything they had, which was very nice of them. But there were bugs in this house since not every area gets cleaned. We saw numerous cockroaches, ants, spiders, and other insects during our stay in the bedroom and the sheets they let us use smelled a tad moldy. During our week stay, our sheets never got changed and our towels were only washed once. Also, they had a dog and a cat inside and two stray cats outside, not sure if that was in the description. We really enjoyed Kevin and James, they were great hosts, but the residence wasn't quite what we expected based on other reviews.
The house is very close by the beach. There is a balcony with ocean view across from the lawn, a scenic path leads towards the beautiful blue ocean with lovely tropic flowers on both sides. It is about 2 minutes walk on the path, and then you reach South Road, where you can actually see the gorgeous Warwick long bay beach below. If you make a left, bust stop is within 2 min walk. If you make a right turn and walk for a minute, you will see the entrance to the long bay on your left, and another 1 min walk will bring you to the beach. Then you can walk along the beach to the west all the way to the famous horseshoe bay in about 20 minutes, with 4-5 coves with breathtaking views on your way.
James and Kevin are very nice and warm hosts. My flight arrived at 9 pm. They picked me up at the airport and showed me where the closest bus stop is and the bus stops ahead and after, and some signs to easily recognize that leads to the house. He has also provided many helpful tips on getting around Bermuda. Since I need to catch the earliest bus next morning to diving site, he texted me the bus arrival time. In addition to that, when I woke up the next morning, I saw sticky notes on the door that again reminded me the bus schedule, which is very considerate! A package of 15 bus tickets ($25) were provided, and it was sufficient for my 3-day travel in Bermuda. (I toured around the island, went to St George, Somerset, Dockyard and had some roundtrips to Hamilton). They also have adorable pets. A very friendly dog Pepper and a shy cat Ginger.
Their fridge is not working right now but there is a cooler. I bought my own breakfast and dine out all the time so did not use the kitchen. There are plenty of towels, shampoo, bath gel, after-sun repair and sunblock provided. The bed is comfortable. Though the room is definitely not as clean and pleasant as hotels, you will see some insects around in the bedroom and bathroom... but you have a glass door that gives you a nice view of terrace with lots of sunshine.
Overall, it is a very pleasant stay with this rate, this location, this view, and great hosts. You will also enjoy the walk home from the bus stop at night with unbelievable shiny stars all over the sky and the amazing island chorus all around!
What a wonderful location! Right in the heart of true Bermuda and just a 5 minute walk to the secluded beaches. It's surrounded by nature!! James was a true delight and helped to make my stay comfortable and easy. The room and private bathroom was airy and bright and made my stay comfortable. I could relax and enjoy all that Bermuda has to offer! Thanks James!!
