This house is located in the heart of North Capitol Hill, at its closest point to South Lake Union. You've got the convenience of the restaurants and activity of Capitol Hill, and a full QFC supermarket two blocks away, while located an easy walk from TechStars (1.2 miles walk), CodeFellows, Amazon SLU, etc. It has a WalkScore of 95/100.

From the airport you can take light rail and either walk 1.4 miles or take one bus line.

There is a house captain on-site, so you'll be well taken care of. That being said, we expect you to keep your area and the kitchen clean, to wash your own clothers/towels, and to be considerate of the other residents.

This house is a little older and shows some wear, but we endeavor to keep it well-furnished (mostly IKEA), and reasonably clean and tidy.

Note about parking: there are three parking spaces (one garage space, one driveway space, and one street space blocking the driveway). The garage and driveway spaces cost $8/day. The street space is free but subject to neighborhood 2 hour daytime parking limit. Parking is very tight in this neighborhood. Grok Home is a community of professionals - technical, scientific and entrepreneurial types, who want to enjoy and contribute to a clean, healthy and safe shared environment that enhances their ability to create and be productive, and also, for great conversations about science, technology and business. Our space should be orderly enough to be conducive to such activity.

The House Rules below are meant to keep the community a safe, clean and professional environment for everyone. No exceptions are allowed unless listed in the “exceptions” section below or if specifically allowed by the house captain or someone else from GrokHome.
We reserve the right to check out any guests, at any time, who behave in a disorderly manner or intentionally disturb other guests with their mess, noise or are caught stealing and in general, do not abide by the rules of the community. Failure to follow these rules may result in an immediate cancellation of your booking and removal from the property.

Quiet Hours: From 10:00 pm until 7:00 am. Between these hours the noise level in the house, private rooms and common areas needs to be kept low so other community members can sleep or rest. You don’t have to sleep and can be anywhere in the house just keep the voice or any music level low.
No smoking of any kind is permitted within the house premises, on the porch, or in the garden, backyard or garage.
Alcoholic beverages: consumption of alcoholic beverages in the house must be at a very low level and we generally do not want guests to store such items in the house.
Please, don't use outside shoes inside the house (Take them off immediately when you reach the door).
No outsiders/visitors are allowed to enter the house premises without the House Captain’s approval.
Consumption of food is not allowed inside bedrooms.
Music/videos: do not play music or videos loud enough to disturb other guests, especially during quiet hours.
Internet usage: You have access to free wifi while staying at the property, but please be aware that the downloading of copyrighted material is not permitted while at this location. Failure to follow this rule may result in an immediate cancellation of your booking.
Please feel free to make use of the kitchens, bathrooms and all the house's facilities, but you will need to leave them in a similar state to when you found them.
Kindly wash your dishes (cups, plates, utensils) and clean counter tops immediately after use. In a community not cleaning dishes doesn't save time, it puts it on another member and that isn't fair to the rest of the house. Dishes must be cleaned during the mealtime and after, always before starting a project, work, sleeping, leaving the house, taking a shower, etc. This is a shared house with lots of people, and cleaning needs to be prompt. Clean/dry dishes need to be put away, so if you wash it, you put it away. Those who cook are responsible for the dishes they dirty, regardless of any agreement with other guests.
No pungent food (i.e stinky fish) to be brought into the house.
Clean your food items AT LEAST once a week, or they might be thrown out. Sundays are good days to clean your part of the fridge.
Do not microwave bacon, or cook foods with extreme smells which might impact other guests.
Don’t throw items into the garbage that should be sorted into recycling or compost.. Also, help to avoid an overflowing recycle bin/garbage/compostable. That should be a shared task since all of us use those containers. (Old garbage and compostable cause bad odors in the house.)
Dry the bathroom and the sink after yourself. Bathrooms must be left clean after use. (Toiletries should be kept with your personal items in your under-bed rolling box(for example) if they don't fit easily and conveniently in the bathroom.)
Try not to hold the bathroom for more than 15 minutes at a time so others don’t have to wait too long.
Do not leave your personal belongings in the bathrooms including towels, clothing. There is limited space in the bathrooms for hanging clothing and towels while in use so we want to respect this for every member of the community.
If you are living in a shared room with other roommates, make sure you have your stuff well organized in the way they don't disturb others. Also, pay attention to bad odors (keep your dirty clothing well stored). Also, remember that we have spaces for storing the empty suitcases in the basement/garage
Exceptions:
If you booked a whole room, you can keep your suitcases in your room.
If your suitcase and your direct roommate's suitcases fit well under your bed it's ok to keep them there. If not, it's fair that you both store them in the basement, or the storage area next to your room.
Do not sleep in common areas.
Public spaces (living room, dining room, hallway) should be neat enough to expect visitors at any time.
Do not leave your belongings (backpacks, laptops, phones, glasses, etc.) in common areas overnight.
Bikes must be signed out by the user.
Label your own food with name & date. Unlabeled food is fair game for anyone to eat.
Leftovers older than 3 days will be discarded.
Once a guest checks out, the guest may leave their luggage for a maximum of 6 hrs with us for storage but we will not be responsible for any losses or damage.
The dishwasher can be started when 3/4 full.
Recycling and garbage:
Remember that Seattle is a green city: WE RECYCLE! Blue bins are for paper, cardboard, and some plastics, the stainless steel compost bin is for organic waste (not meat, cheese, or fish) and the trash is for everything else.
Please report any suspicious or questionable activity by another guest to the house captain or to the Grokhome chief IMMEDIATELY.
And above all be considerate of others and respect everyone.

I spent the summer here for my summer internship, and it was absolutely perfect for me. The house is always stocked with essentials, and was super convenient while I was working. The house manager, Yoly, is very sweet and friendly, and attentive to the guests. This house is a very easy walk to the Link Station and other public transit, so it's very easy to get around. The location is amazing too, the Capitol Hill food and nightlife are within walking distance. The area itself is just beautiful. Also, the network of other tech workers here are great. It was great to meet up with them and learn about their projects. The community aspect of this home really improved my experience. If you're considering this house for a long term, tech related stay, I cannot recommend this place enough.

Perfectly pleasant accommodations for a couple weeks while I was getting settled in the city. The house is definitely old and probably overdue for a remodel, but they've made it quite comfortable. The kitchen's a bit crowded with so many people sharing it, and some of the shared ingredients can be dodgy, so watch out for that. The fruit flies mentioned in previous reviews are still around, but kept mostly under control by the scheduled cleanings. The wifi was excellent and the people were all great.

Matt is awesome! Excellent location (20 mins walk to SLU) and people in the house. I spent three months there during my summer internship. However, the cleanliness wasn't good for the first two months (lots of fruit flies at the first floor). After getting weekly housekeeper, it became much better.
