Please feel free to make use of the kitchens, bathrooms and all the house's facilities, but you will need to leave them in a similar state to when you found them.
Kindly wash your dishes (cups, plates, utensils) and clean counter tops immediately after use. In a community not cleaning dishes doesn't save time, it puts it on another member and that isn't fair to the rest of the house. Dishes must be cleaned during the mealtime and after, always before starting a project, work, sleeping, leaving the house, taking a shower, etc. This is a shared house with lots of people, and cleaning needs to be prompt. Clean/dry dishes need to be put away, so if you wash it, you put it away. Those who cook are responsible for the dishes they dirty, regardless of any agreement with other guests.
No pungent food (i.e stinky fish) to be brought into the house.
Clean your food items AT LEAST once a week, or they might be thrown out. Sundays are good days to clean your part of the fridge.
Do not microwave bacon, or cook foods with extreme smells which might impact other guests.
Don’t throw items into the garbage that should be sorted into recycling or compost.. Also, help to avoid an overflowing recycle bin/garbage/compostable. That should be a shared task since all of us use those containers. (Old garbage and compostable cause bad odors in the house.)
Dry the bathroom and the sink after yourself. Bathrooms must be left clean after use. (Toiletries should be kept with your personal items in your under-bed rolling box(for example) if they don't fit easily and conveniently in the bathroom.)
Try not to hold the bathroom for more than 15 minutes at a time so others don’t have to wait too long.
Do not leave your personal belongings in the bathrooms including towels, clothing. There is limited space in the bathrooms for hanging clothing and towels while in use so we want to respect this for every member of the community.
If you are living in a shared room with other roommates, make sure you have your stuff well organized in the way they don't disturb others. Also, pay attention to bad odors (keep your dirty clothing well stored). Also, remember that we have spaces for storing the empty suitcases in the basement/garage
If you booked a whole room, you can keep your suitcases in your room.
If your suitcase and your direct roommate's suitcases fit well under your bed it's ok to keep them there. If not, it's fair that you both store them in the basement, or the storage area next to your room.
Do not sleep in common areas.
Public spaces (living room, dining room, hallway) should be neat enough to expect visitors at any time.
Do not leave your belongings (backpacks, laptops, phones, glasses, etc.) in common areas overnight.
Bikes must be signed out by the user.
Label your own food with name & date. Unlabeled food is fair game for anyone to eat.
Leftovers older than 3 days will be discarded.
Once a guest checks out, the guest may leave their luggage for a maximum of 6 hrs with us for storage but we will not be responsible for any losses or damage.
The dishwasher can be started when 3/4 full.
Recycling and garbage:
Remember that Seattle is a green city: WE RECYCLE! Blue bins are for paper, cardboard, and some plastics, the stainless steel compost bin is for organic waste (not meat, cheese, or fish) and the trash is for everything else.
Please report any suspicious or questionable activity by another guest to the house captain or to the Grokhome chief IMMEDIATELY.
And above all be considerate of others and respect everyone.
Grokhome is all about building fun and creative tech communities.
We have three different tech-oriented group living houses in Seattle, IO House and Eniac House on Capitol Hill, Cor 36 in the South Lake Union area, and Romero near the University of Washington.
At Grokhome's group living houses you can expect to be surrounded by smart people solving big problems. Every guest brings something new to our community. Ideas flow and people are exposed to new possibilities they never stumbled on before.
