Bed and Breakfast for short term guests or longer term with kitchen privileges. This beautiful home is in an upscale, safe neighborhood of Trejos Montealegre, Escazu (about 8 km, 15 minute bus ride from downtown San Jose) has 4 rooms to meet different budgets and needs regarding time. Stay for 2 days, or 2 months, perhaps longer.

There are restaurants in the immediate neighborhood, movies, shopping center, medical/dental offices, hospital, Spanish lessons, grocery stores all within a short taxi ride or not much longer if you are a walker.

The GARDEN Room is small, but cute, with a private bath, our most economical, all the amenities on a cozy scale. Door opens into the garden. There is Internet in the room and at a covered table just outside for gathering or working with Internet. Guests have been offered larger rooms but have chosen this one! This room is appropriate for only one person, two if you are very friendly with a TWIN BED. (A double mattress could also be provided if desired).

The DELIGHT room is a comfortable 13 ft X 13 ft room with a private bath and a QUEEN BED. Sleeps two comfortably.

The MTN VIEW room is an even larger room than the DELIGHT with a shared bath and a QUEEN BED and TWIN BED. It is a "favorite" of many guests because it has a view of the lovely Escazu hills and is sunny and pleasant all year 'round. The one other person who shares the bathroom is usually out and on her way by 6:30 AM so it is almost like having your own bathroom.

The GRAND room is a huge room with jacuzzi (see photo)
It has a QUEEN BED and a SOFA or TWIN BED. Sleeps 3 comfortably with space to put more mattresses on the floor for friendly folks.

Also see the POAS, ARENAL, BOYERO rooms and ask about the availability of the COURTYARD room.

International telecommuters wanted! Be in Costa Rica while on the job, then go off to explore after work!

Roam The World For Free ARTICLE: CELL PHONES
Thursday, 17 October 2013

Have you ever had an amazing vacation in a foreign country only to come home to a US$500 cell phone bill? You only checked a few emails, used (website hidden) Maps, and uploaded pictures to (website hidden) to make your friends jealous, so how could it cost that much?

I've been a victim to these outrageous roaming fees which has lead me to either leave my phone in airplane mode or buy a local prepaid SIM card in the country I am visiting, neither of which is ideal.

Beginning on Oct. 20th, the U.S. cellular company T-Mobile is changing the game in international travel by getting rid of international roaming fees. That's right, U.S. T-Mobile users will now be able to roam the world with their current cell phone and number at no extra cost.

The service will be available in countries including Panama, Colombia, Ecuador, Argentina, Brazil, France, Italy, China, and 200 other countries. It allows unlimited data usage and texting, with phone calls at a rate of 20 cents per minute. The service automatically connects to the local service in the new country and requires nothing for the user to do.

T-Mobile's new plan is perfect for the frequent and infrequent traveler that wants to always be connected while they are away. Picture being able to hop from country to country in Europe, use all of your data, apps, maps, and email, and not be penalized for it. The savings and convenience are extraordinary.

T-Mobile is currently the only cell phone provider in the United States offering an international cell phone service like this. It's great they are the first to recognize that we live in a global world where people want to be connected no matter where they are. It will also be interesting to see whether the larger carriers like Verizon and AT&T eventually jump on board.

For more information on T-Mobile's new plan visit: (website hidden)(email hidden)ml.

  • If you need to stay in Escazu or near San Jose this is a hard place to beat. Stores and a major shopping center are within walking distance. Two kitchens make meal preparation easy. Breakfast was a nicely prepared fruit plate and cold cereal. A large DVD collection is available to borrow. There is a pleasant outdoor courtyard. The recent addition of a second, adjoining, house, allows for a wide variety of accommodations. Liza is very knowledgeable and helpful.

  • This is a awesome place to stay close to San Jose Downtown. Liza, our host, is awesome. She's so helpful and very knowledgeable about Costa Rica and tourism. The home is very beautiful, luxury style rooms and comfortable place, including wonderful breakfasts of fresh fruits and hot teas! We had wonderful time sitting out in the beautiful, peaceful patio to play with cats and relax. Liza is a most interesting, passion and fascinating person. My daughter liked playing with the (email hidden)anks for her wonderful delicious Christmas Costa Rica typical style dinner.

  • This is the second year in a row we have stayed with Liza. We wouldn't stay anywhere else! Liza is a fantastic host. The house is very comfortable and beautifully decorated, and it is located in a very safe neighborhood. Liza is a wealth of information about places to go, and things to do in Costa Rica. She is fun to talk to, and a friend who we will come back to see time and time again. You can't go wrong staying with Liza!

  • We absolutely could not have found a more perfect place to stay than Hummingbird B&B. We had never been in Costa Rica and so wanted a safe and, of course, friendly place for our month-long stay. Hummingbird is a beautiful place and in a perfect location within walking distance of grocery stores, shopping malls, theaters, a variety of good restaurants and convenient access to bus service to all parts of the country. Liza, our host, is not only knowledgeable about her business and about Costa Rica, but she had great sightseeing recommendations and suggestions for the best ways to get to them. The home is very clean and comfortable and we never had to ask for anything--it was all there, including wonderful breakfasts of fresh fruits and hot coffee! My favorite time there was sitting out in the beautiful, peaceful patio to read. She has a great selection of books from which to choose while there. And perhaps best of all, Liza is a most interesting and fascinating person. Hopefully, there will be another visit to Hummingbird.

  • A gorgeous home! We stayed in the Grand room, and couldn't ask for more peace and comfort. We conduct business in our travels, and it was very important that we have wireless. Liza has provided the best service with three routers thru out her home! You will have privacy as well as information and help if needed. Only a five minute walk to the "shopping center" with nice restaurants, a major hotel (for convenient tour pick up) a cinema, and even a Starbucks. Thanks very much, Liza. We will stay here again.

  • THis was the nicest place i have stayed at on airbnb. I have travelled the world and Liza made me very comfortable.
i was in San Jose for major dental work, not tourism. And so waking up to fresh fruit and coffee and her cheery hello each morning was sweet.
The room itself is to die for. I like standing up when working, so i made a little standing desk out of one of the shelves in the huge wok in closet.
Liza also provided me with lots of directions and access to tours when i was available.
I look forward to going back in the fall if she'll have me.

  • Liza is a wonderful host! She is very attentive to the needs of her guests and extremely knowledgeable about Costa Rica. She is also a very warm and caring person.
I stayed in the Grand room for two months and enjoyed every minute of my stay. This really is a lovely room and very well appointed.
The house is very comfortable. The garden is a great place to relax and sit under the covered patio. The cats are sweet and entertaining. There is a nice pool a few blocks away if you like to swim.
I met some really lovely and interesting people at the house; both guests and friends of Liza. We had some nice house dinners and outings together. If you have an opportunity to stay here, I'm sure you will love it!

  • Liza is an incredibly warm and welcoming host, but be aware that the home, a beautiful home, shares space with people who are mostly on working vacations. That may not be true for all times of the year, so be sure to ask the arrangements, as it is the perfect place to stay for a quiet zen like experience. A very harmonious place, as long as you are willing to contribute to the harmony. She offers massage too! Very tranquil

University of Costa Rica, Framingham State College
Professor of English, Massage Therapist, Guest house owner
I have had many adventures (with what seems to be endless travel along with life experiences) and these adventures continue in Costa Rica. I had a guest house in San Francisco and I would love to welcome you to my home here in Escazu, Costa Rica for a short or longer stay. This home was picked and decorated with YOU in mind! Since arriving in Costa Rica in 2002, I have been a teacher specializing in English for Specific Purposes and English for Business Purposes which is very interesting because I get to learn a lot about all kinds of fields. Some of my students, along the way, have come from banking, nutrition, medicine, finance, small business, diplomacy, etc. I had an interesting time getting two Master's of Education simultaneously, one from the University of Costa Rica and one from Framingham State College. In 2010, I taught at EARTH University in Guacimo Costa Rica where they teach sustainable farming, so this city girl learned a lot about farming and I have gotten very interested in issues around farming and other matters about sustainability. I have also been a massage therapist for nearly 20 years, something I am very passionate about. Since June 2011, this very interesting house has had people who have come from India, Pakistan, France, England, Poland, Serbia, Russia, Switzerland, England. Germany, Reunion, Colombia, Argentina, Ecuador, Panama, Nicaragua, New Zealand, Canada, the U.S., and others. We just never know who might show up! Sometimes we have eight countries represented at the table, and yet, often there are unexpected and interesting connections. It is a house filled with blessings! I hope you will join us and continue the adventure!
