Description

The space

"Gringo on the Beach..." Yo soy gringo!

Gringo on the Beach offers our guests a unique seaside oasis in a striking setting along the Central Ecuadorian Pacific coast. As a micro-resort, our family atmosphere is a more intimate and eco-friendly alternative to the typical mega-hotel chains.

Additionally we offer horseback riding, a soccer field and swimming pool. Our beach gate opens directly to the Pacific Ocean so you are only steps away from the beach!

Gringo on the Beach is your perfect "launching" point for your Ecuadorian adventure. While here visit the local "Pacoche Forest" and our Howler Monkey residents. Climb the 750 steps to the El Faro Lighthouse with it's stunning pacific views. Day trips include Cuidad Alfaro with it's museum to our country's founder and artisans in beautiful Monticristi. The Machililla National Park with the Magnificent Frailes Beach and local indigenous Agua Blanca community near Puerto Lopez.

Located conveniently 30Km south of Manta and accessible by car, taxi or bus. We also offer airport pick-up and drop off service.

The neighborhood

Cabo San Lorenzo is a very tranquil and picturesque little pueblo. We are located within the Pacoche coastal forest and marine reserve. As part of the reserve, the beach in front of the hotel is a protected turtle nesting sanctuary. Throughout the year it is possible the see nesting turtles as well as hatchlings,

Getting around

Ecuador, with our new well marked roads, is very accessible to driving. Accordingly we also have a decent bus system and, my favorite, local transit shuttles called "camionetas".

Unfortunately, I was in Ecuador during the earthquake. Fortunately, I was with Dan and the GotB crew. To say that Dan and his team were prepared is an understatement; it's clear he's loved by many in the town due in part to his hospitality and big heart. The resort was beautiful and the weekend was an experience I'd never forget. The location was perfect for a weekend getaway and the resort was clean and beautifully kept by Maestro. Thank you, Dan, for putting others before yourself-it speaks to the person you really are. I promise to be back again!

If your looking for some downtime away from the chaos of sightseeing, buses, traffic and car alarms, this is it. It's a 25 min drive outside of Manta but the units have kitchens and Danial is quite good whipping up tasty fare in his little restaurant. Beers are cheap, the pool has shade in the afternoon and the beach is huge (though swimming in not recommended due to the enormous waves.) great to fall asleep to. If you do make it down and have room in your suitcase bring him some "just add water" pancake mix and he'll be over the moon to whip some up for you (in hopes you leave what's left behind) lol. We'll be back and my son (10) looks forward to playing with the Canadian neighbour kid again.

We stayed at GOTB 4 days this August and were very happy with our stay! Our host Daniel was very nice and accommodated all of our needs; and the staff was great. He helped organize a whaling trip and also to pick up family members at the Manta airport. The suite was really great, spacious, clean and decorated very nicely. For breakfast, we were served fresh bread, eggs, fruit and great coffee. One night when we were late coming back, Daniel went out of his way to call us to make sure everything was ok. We highly recommend a stay at Gringo on the Beach in San Lorenzo.

Dan's hospitality exceeded our expectations. Hotel Gringo on the Beach has the perfect location on one of my favorite beaches in Ecuador. From my initial communication until after I had already left the facility, Dan was a professional host. He even cooked breakfast, making sure that everything was perfect. I will be back for sure.

It was my first experience at Gringo on the Beach and I had a great week. Being so close at the beach gave me that holidayfeeling you don't get when you stay in some big hotel in the city. Daniël and his staff treat their guests very well and when I was there he had a wonderful workaway crew who gave the best of themselves. A point to consider is to rent a car because you definitely need one if you want to explore the area. San Lorenzo is 30 minutes away from Manta and if you want to have dinner at a restaurant then you really need a car because San Lorenzo has, besides a local restaurant, nothing to offer. I visited Crucita and Puerto Lopez which is the place to be for seeing the humpback whales. Gringo on the Beach is a great location for having parties and barbecues and I had the chance to enjoy some of the local nightlife together with Daniël and his crew. I would recommend Gringo on the Beach to everyone who wants to see this part of La Ruta del Sol because it is located between hotspots like Puerto Lopez and Portoviejo and Crucita. So you never have to drive like more then an hour to an hour and a half to go visit places. I will definitely come back to GotB!

We are very happy staying at this house! Inside is clean and cozy, lots of furniture, windows and doors Made of wood is very beautiful! Daniel is very hospitable and attentive host, answered all our questions arise (though we speak bad English). In the "Gringo on the Beach ..." feels like home! Daniel has done for us and very tasty cocoa mahito of the natural product (and even showed how it grows) On the grounds of the house is very nice a lot of vegetation, there are horses .. who took our bright Sneakers for food .. and wanted to try, and a very friendly dog Helly. There is where to go for a walk .. you can climb to the lighthouse and see the beautiful view of the ocean and blue footed boobies, take a stroll along the beach, a great opportunity to surf, you can go on excursions in the forest and see the monkeys. The only thing there is no shop, just a small tent and two cafes, so you can buy some things with you. Just from Daniel can buy a real coffee! yummy! Quiet corner of the earth with beautiful nature.

We had a great time at Gringo on the Beach and look forward to going back. Dan was a great host and very helpful in meeting our needs. The accommodations were wonderful and a great value. Breakfast and Sunday hamburgers were great at GOB but places to eat in San Lo are few and offer a limited menu... so plan accordingly.

Well here I am... So how did I find myself living in this impossibly beautiful little country? Honestly, were it that I had some overly romantic tale, when actually, I simply found myself here more or less through happenstance. In 2009 I came to "check up" on my Brother-in-Law who built his dream retirement home here. As it turns out my parents had also been to Ecuador and my mother really loved the country and seemed to thrive when she was here. In the ensuing few years we found dad in need of round the clock heath care so we packed him up and moved him to San Lorenzo. I initially took a leave of absence from my job and my sister and I agreed to take turns providing family support. As with many things in life, the more time I spent here the busier I became helping to run our little family construction and import/export businesses. So, here I am trying to have some fun and hoping to provide a wonderful vacation experience so others will also fall in love with this small impossibly beautiful country.
