Not only was Rory communicative and flexible, but the excellent pictures don't do justice to how beautiful the area and the house is. I'm very happy with my stay and very happy with my host. It was a great first airbnb experience and I look forward to my next.
Fox Run is a nice big farmhouse, but is also moreover the community of really nice people who live there. I booked with Rory at the last minute and he went out of his way to accommodate me and even provided me dinner on the night I arrived. I felt welcomed by everyone that I met and had many great conversations during my stay. However, everybody at Fox Run will be continuing to go about their lives and you will be free to do the same and can interact as much or as little as you choose. I can recommend Fox Run without reservation as an excellent base from which to do whatever you are in the Upper Valley to do.
Fox Run was much like I anticipated from the listing. The house is shared by multiple people and we were welcomed by all. If immaculate versus 'community lived in' is what you desire your own room will be clean and acceptable but the house has many roommates and they are all very busy, friendly people. This environment was a very good fit for us as we were there for only 2 nights, we were visiting nearby colleges and the roommate life is in our future. Rory was very good about communicating with us prior to our arrival, had very good ideas for local places to visit as both short visit tourists or future local residents.
Due to an unexpected change of plans I needed a place to sleep for my parents near Dartmouth College for a couple nights within 24 hours. The host said that it was no problem and that he would have gotten the room ready for my parents in time. Sadly, when we got there, my parents where appalled by the conditions of the room. Sure, the place is nice and looks like in the pictures, but there was an inch of dust on the nightstand, the trash bin hadn't been emptied, there were non folded blankets and sheets on the couch and the bathroom (btw, you couldn't even lock the bathroom door) looked like it hadn't been cleaned in months. Also, my parents said that they found hair (human or dog hair, they don't know) on the pillows. They stayed for the night because we had no alternative but left the next morning even though we had paid for two nights. I was deeply ashamed about the whole situation and for making them sleep in such a dirty place. If you cannot clean your place in time just say so or decline the reservation. I had clearly told the host that I was booking the place for my parents. If it had been me and a friend I could have turned the blind eye on something (but definitely not on the hair in the sheets though) but I had specified that this was not the case. And sincerely, the room and the bathroom were really dirty even for me. You want to live in the dirt, that's up to you, but you cannot pretend to be a host if you do not even care to empty the trash bin, dust the furniture and do not leave your used bed sheets in plain sight. I would eagerly recommend going someplace else.
Chiara is factually correct on three things: I failed to dust the tops of my dressers, at some point my dog probably went up and slept on the bed after I'd changed the sheets (for which I apologize), and I forgot to take the latch-quieter off the bathroom door.
Other than that, her review is completely unreasonable.
It's a shared house, with a shared bathroom, all of which is clear on the profile and in the other reviews. If she wanted a spotless hotel room, that is what she should have booked. Our house is comfortable, friendly and reasonably clean at all times.
It was a very last minute reservation. I personally swept the floors of both the room and bathroom, wiped down the sink, mirror, toilet and tub with an ammonia-based cleanser, and tidied everything.
I'm sorry that her expectations weren't met, but the conditions were perfectly consistent with the advertised accommodations, and identical to any other guests' experience, which have been very well reviewed.
Staying at Fox Run was a lot of fun. Not only was the room we stayed in fabulous but also was it great to interact with all the nice and interesting people living in this house. They gave us a lot of recommendations on what to do and where to run and shared their passion for this area with us. All in all Rory was a wonderful host and took great care of us! I highly recommend staying at fox run!
This was a great place to stay. The room was comfortable and had everything we needed. Fox Run is a wonderful home with a great view and awesome, friendly housemates.
Rory's listing saved us. There were no hotel rooms in the entire Hanover-Lebanon weekend during our son's school parent-teacher conference weekend. He and his house-mates were courteous and friendly. It was a little odd sleeping in someone's bedroom (as advertised) but the bed was comfy, sheets and towels clean, and he provided shampoo. The house is on a nice side street of Lebanon, easy to find. The experience was like going back to college days.
Rory also helped us out by letting our son sleep in the room for no extra charge one night.
I work for the Dartmouth Outing Club and administer there and for Fox Run, a fun community of young people living and hanging out together. We'd love to host you!
