Gorgeous Room Near Downtown Athens

House - Private room · North Pope Street, Athens, GA 30601, United States

Private first-floor bedroom in craftsman home close to downtown Athens, GA. A block from Daily Groceries Co-op, Big City Cafe and Avid Bookshop. Enjoy a full kitchen, dining room and back porch made for reading and birdwatching.

The Space

The house features a fabulous collection of works by local artists, fine furniture and a beautiful garden. Heavy curtains in the room allow guests to determine how much light they let in to a great degree.

Comfortable chairs and hammock on the back porch and lawn provide ample space to enjoy the outdoors.

This room comfortably fits two people who are accustomed to sharing a bed. A second (upstairs) room is available upon request, for an additional $100/night.

Guest Access

Guests will have access to a private bathroom and screened porch, a full kitchen, laundry room, dining room and living room area.

Among other modern conveniences offered are wireless internet, heating/air conditioning and cable television.

Interaction with Guests

We keep pretty hands-off. One of us will be available to answer any questions you may have and make sure you are comfortable during your stay, but we try hard to make you feel like you have the place to yourself. Our family stays in the upstairs section.

The porch door allows you to enter and exit the house directly from your room.

We do not offer a full breakfast, though the pantry stays stocked with coffee and tea as well as bread, butter and jam for a light snack.

The Neighborhood

Though very close to the bustle of downtown and campus, our charming neighborhood is quiet and calm. We live in a lovely area for exploring and looking at homes and gardens.

Other Things to Note

We have sufficient parking for one vehicle in our driveway. Your car will be on a flat surface behind our house and away from the street.

  • We had a great stay in this home. While it is a room in a shared house, it feels like its own apartment on the first floor. We were given plenty of privacy and felt taken care of. The house itself is absolutely beautiful. Tons of great art on the walls and plenty of books to sit and read on the porch. I wish we had an excuse to stay longer!

  • I stayed in Athens at this home and found it a very
wonderful experience. The house is warm and friendly,
and convenient to a great local food co-op, and wonderful
vegetarian restaurant. Mark was very helpful as
my guide and met me upon my arrival. I stayed for four days while
attending a conference at UGA. It was just under two
miles away, so as a walker I walked to my conference as the birds
and warm spring sun welcomed my day. I will definitely
be back, just a great place to stay. Thank you! Tim

  • Quiet, comfortable, and clean room in a beautiful home. Host was available and helpful if needed but gave us space. A short walk to downtown. Had a great visit, would definitely stay here again.

  • Theo's great place made our short trip through Athens a real treat! We found Theo's house to be charming, filled with great art, well stocked, super clean and in a great part of town, close to everything! The room we stayed in has its own very nice bathroom that was stocked with all the toiletries we could need. The room also has a very large, nicely furnished screened in porch that would be awesome in warmer weather. You can come and go without entering the main part of the house, although the house is so charming we always used the main back door. We weren't able to meet Theo on this trip, but Mark, who lives in the upstairs, was a fantastic host. He was charming, thorough with explanations on everything around the house, and even gave us a few tips on where to shop for a few items we wanted. I would definitely recommend Theo's place to anyone, and we hope to return again!

  • Wonderful and peaceful home conveniently located in a gentrifying in-town neighborhood. While the lot and home exterior are low-key, the fully renovated interior is strikingly attractive, spacious and extremely comfortable. The ultra-accomodating hosts were never underfoot but were readily available when needed. We certainly hope to stay here again. (One note: although the home does have off-street parking, the turn-around space is fairly tight.)

  • We loved staying here. It seemed quite a haven after our long flight from the UK. The accommodation was roomy and comfortable. We had access to a fully fitted kitchen and all the facilities of a home. Mark who lives upstairs was a sporadic and discreet presence and never underfoot. If we are ever lucky enough to return to Georgia we will certainly hope to stay in the Gorgeous Room again.

  • Perfect place for boyfriend and I. We walked to downtown everyday and night. Came in town for football game. Felt very comfortable here. Highly recommended!

  • This was a terrific Air bnb experience. The location near downtown worked great for us and the surrounding historical facilities make for great neighbors. The home has a craftsman style architectural design but is new construction, making for a perfect combination of aesthetic appeal and comfort. The interior design is meticulous, and includes perfect indoor and outdoor space. Thanks for sharing this home.

My name is Theo and I manage this house with my sister Juniper. I am presently studying global health and sustainable development at Columbia University. I grew up in Athens and called it home for many years, during which I traveled often with my bands "Defiance, Ohio" and "Nana Grizol." I love travel and getting to met new people. Juniper works at Power Partners, a local manufacturing firm that makes (among other things) power transformers. She is also currently working on her master's degree in Safety Management. She has two sons and they are extremely awesome.
