Let's be real here - "charming" really means, very VERY rustic. This is a beach house, through and through. It is an easy walk to the beach, there is hot water and electricity, there are howler monkeys - but that's the sum of its good qualities. This house is in the middle of the jungle and there are no screens and no glass on the windows. This REALLY skeeved us out - as there is a mosquito net above the bed, but with Chikungunya on the rise (Lindsey Lohan recently contracted it - for real) we hated the idea of chilling in the living room with any lights on which just attracted bugs by the dozens. Also, there is no table inside, which left us standing to eat our dinner, or sitting on the old dingy couch holding our plates. There is a cute patio outside, but there were either beautiful terrific torrents of rain or no rain and tons of bugs, making dining outdoors at night not very appealing. Honestly, the bathroom is really cute and the floors have been recently revamped, and there is a lot of potential. But if you aren't a fan of mosquitos, be forewarned. Plus, there's no air-conditioning - which is as advertised, but it gets HOT, so you should be really, really sure you want to stay here. Also, once you figure out where it is, it's actually quite close to the town and the beach, and feels like a safe walk - but good luck getting there with the directions provided.

Jackie was an excellent host. She was available for all questions and concerns that we had during our stay in Cahuita. She told us about fun things to do in and around the area as well as offered great conversation, a genuine sweet person. The cabina was amazing.I went with my wife and 12 month old daughter and we found the cabina to be comfortable and provided everything we needed such as towels and equipped kitchen. We loved eating out on the porch in the company of howler monkeys and sloths (which are everywhere). The location is awesome because it's a 5 minute walk to the entrance of the park and beach. The sloth sanctuary, tree of life, and jaguar sanctuary are all within 30 minutes or less of travel. We hope to go back again for a longer stay, we were there for 10 days.
Thank you Jackie!
Jackie was a friendly, helpful, and accommodating host. The casita was a lovely little gem of a place, well equipped, and well located, near town and near the National Park. It is hard to find, however, and that could be made easier. We had a wonderful time in the Casita Cahuita and with Jackie!
What a fantastic find! My wife and I visited in December 2013 and had a wonderful time. From being picked up at the bus stop, to being greeted by Capuchin monkeys in the trees next to the house when we arrived, to sitting out on the porch in the evenings enjoying nature... this house is a must if you are staying in Cahuita. Jackie is a great hose and very thoughtful - she arranged a snorkeling guide for us (Fernando was great!) and left us with a cell phone and her number in case we needed anything.
Not once did we feel unsafe in Cahuita or at Jackie's house, and it's the perfect distance from the entrance to the national park (just off the main road down a smaller dirt road and right in the middle of the rainforest). If you venture out at night, be sure to bring a flashlight though because it can get VERY dark on the walk back. We look forward to visiting again one day.
