About This Listing
Quiet neighborhood retreat minutes from the ocean, biking and hiking trails, Amgen, Cal Lutheran University, the Reagan library, Malibu, and a quick drive to Santa Barbara. Only one mile from the 101 freeway, close to Camarillo and Oxnard. Here on business? Closing escrow? Visiting a student? Comfort of home awaits.
We have stayed in B&B's all over Europe, and loved it. Such a great way to meet new people, and get to know the community. This room has a full size bed that comfortably suits a single person. In addition, a small writing desk will accommodate your laptop or iPad, and wifi is available. We have just added a beverage/snack station as well, with a kettle and tea/coffee and snacks. Although the house has air conditioning, there is a ceiling fan in the room if you choose to use it.
If you want a personal TV, there is one you can use to access Netflix.
Hardwood floors, large closet with shelves, and window with lots of natural light. In the evening, guests are welcome to use the 42" flatscreen TV in the open country kitchen/family room.
Because we live with two quiet dogs and cats, we can provide an air cleaner for those with allergies, or a sensitivity to dust, or animal hair. If you are very sensitive, you might be more comfortable in a controlled, hotel environment.
We try to offer low rates and ask for early notice of cancellation for a full refund. Happy travels!

Interaction with Guests
We look forward to greeting guests and making sure they are comfortable. If you are staying less than a week, we provide a continental breakfast. We eat a plant-based diet, so you will need to let us know if you require cream, butter or milk for your breakfast. We usually have almond or soy milk, and vegan margarine. We ask that you NOT bring meat or fish that needs cooking into the kitchen. If you want to heat up something in the microwave, you are welcome to do that.
We can direct you to local restaurants, retail and grocery stores close by, movie theaters (even bargain ones) and interesting places tourists usually don't see. We have coupons for restaurants, hiking books, and directions to local attractions. We like to maintain a quiet friendly atmosphere meeting your needs.
The best way to see SoCal is by car. There are taxis you can get, and buses in Thousand Oaks. The closest bus stop is a few blocks walk. If you don't have a car, there is an Enterprise rental car service in Thousand Oaks.
Other Things to Note
Hopefully you won't mind being greeted by our furry friends, as they are quiet most of the time otherwise.
We ask for quiet from our guests after 10pm. If you are a night owl, who needs to prowl the house, our home may not a good fit for you.
The neighborhood is quiet, and there is a great park within two blocks of the house, where we walk the dogs, and just get exercise. Going the other direction, there is access to two restaurants, drug store, and Trader Joe's within a mile. Another couple of miles is a library, a bike shop, and Italian food.
The best way to see any of SoCal is by car. If you don't have one, there is an Enterprise rental car service in Thousand Oaks.
If you want a comfortable place to stay, especially if it is for more than just an overnight, you will be much happier here than at any of the local motels. We aim to under promise and over deliver, and welcome any suggestions from our guests to ensure that happens.
We have provided your own kettle with coffee or tea, and snacks in the room, so you are comfortable. Continental Breakfast of bagels, breads, or muffins with an assortment of spreads along with coffee or tea is available from 6:30 to 8:30am for guests staying less than a week.. We usually have fruit or juice as well.
For longer stay guests (a week or more), we discount the room and although we do not provide the Continental breakfast, we do have room for your food needs in the refrigerator and a kitchen cupboard. Please do not bring in meat or fish to cook; if you have something to heat up in the microwave you are welcome to do that.
Our house is drug free; please keep it that way. You may enjoy your beer or wine if you choose.
We ask for quiet from our guests after 10pm.
Your own kettle with coffee, tea, and snacks. Have included books on local hiking and some fun reads.
Ms Kaaren waited for me at home though I am half an hour later because of traffic jam. She introduced everything necessary to me, which made me very comfortable. Everything described is accurate and the house is very nice. There are also restaurant coupons, maps and scenery introduction pamphlet in the room. The neighborhood is very safe, quiet and clean.
she is amazing! she tried to help and gave me some information all the time. i dont really spend lots of time inside of house but everytime i stayed i feel comfortable and safe. the room i stayed was same with the picture on site and she prepared little snacks and kits for me :) there were 2 dogs and 2 cats but kaaren tried to keep them quiet well. if you like to stay quiet place, this is the house for you! she also prepared the big files (it's on the table in room) about places to go, eat. it was huge information and very helpful!
Best deal in the area. This part of the country is expensive - just a fact. For my five nights, it came up to $400 - airbnb service charge being a big chunk. It's a prime location with great amenities, so it's hard to find anything better. I found Kaaren to be very hospitable and flexible. I changed my dates after arrival twice and the second time I shortened my stay and left in the evening without complaint. Kaaren worked with me to get me the best deal. Having been an airbnb host myself, I can say these lodgings are very luxurious and free. You should find out the footwear rules early so you're comfortable. For example, I try to avoid wearing outdoors footwear inside the house. But, if Kaaren doesn't mind, then you should find that out so you're comfortable keeping your shoes on. If price is your concern, you could negotiate with Kaaren on amenities up front - find out what price you can get with DIY breakfast and no bath robe and no energy bars / tea / coffee and no cooking. If the savings are significant, go for it. I believe it's on the order of 40%. If you go with provided breakfast, you could drop in the word "protein" :) Again, this is a prime locations with most residents competing for best-garden and a nice park within a quarter mile walk. Very nice area. Very nice house, tastefully decorated. Cute pets. If you're a guy, you want to shave right after showering - else it takes forever to get hot water at the sink and that goes against the water conservation rules in CA.
Thanks for your response. However, on checking on the going rate in my area, my accomodations are right in the ball park, and I offer the exra amenities because I am a Super Host, and want to offer my guests a little something extra. I modeled what I offer after some of the places I stayed in Scotland, and have gotten lots of positive feedback about the little extras. My other listing is less expensive, if someone is more concerned about a lower price.
I loved coming back and it feels more and more like home away from home. Always clean and tidy and warm and welcoming. I truly recommend staying at Kaaren's place when available :) I also finally made use of the tea in the room which is lovely in addition to the tea for breakfast w/ muesli!
It is my fourth time staying with Kaaren, and she just returned back from a tour in Scotland bringing back a set of great new ideas for BnB comfort. She upgraded with bath robe, personal tea/coffee maker and so forth. Truly appreciate her care for guests and the morning conversations that make me feel home away from home!

About the Host, Kaaren
My favorite travel destination is Glasgow, Scotland, but I have lived in Germany, so truly enjoy going back to visit friends there.
I am tidy wherever I stay, as it makes it easier for me not to misplace things. If I had unlimited funds, I would definitely go back to Europe to see my daughter who lives in Marseille, and I would love to make it to Ireland.
My next trip is to Scotland with my sister, and I can hardly wait.
I am excited to be an AirBnB host, and have also visited others who are hosts around the country. If I could I would rent space in Glasgow for a month, and just enjoy, but I would miss my furry kids too much.
