Hi all, May '14 will be my last month of hosting in Cambridge for 6 months, I will be hosting in London instead!

The garden-facing room is part of my gorgeous, central home and a great option for design-minded guests seeking a unique place to stay.

The Space

It has a view to the garden and a double-bed fitted with quality (Calvin Klein, Conran, John Lewis, Muji) cotton-sheets, pillows and different duvets for differing weather. It is tastefully decorated with purpose-made storage, a chair and lamps. All the bathrooms on this street are on the ground floor.

Guest Access

It is an 18th century building with open, light-filled spaces, high ceilings, original features, a Danish, wood-burning stove and located in a conservation area.

You are of course welcome to make yourself at home in the main kitchen-living-dining space. There is a dining table, a tv, i-pod docker, digital radio and printer. The kitchen is ideal if you would like to make yourself a tea or coffee. A continental breakfast can be taken up until 0830 and after that guests can help themselves.

Bed-linen and towels are provided. You can also use the hairdryer and the washing machine in the utility room.

There is wireless internet so that you can keep in touch with your family and friends. A vintage bicycle is available to borrow too!

The Neighborhood

It is fantastic and according to a UK newspaper (March 2013) Mill Road is one of the coolest places to live in Britain. Described as having a “vibrant array of independent shops and a strong community spirit”, it came in at No.26 in the top 30 list!

Mill Street is a typical, quaint, Cambridge street, with chimney pots, sash windows and bicycles. There are lots of places to eat and drink on the doorstep and others a short walk into the centre. There is a food market at the weekend in Cambridge's central square.

Cambridge itself has everything to offer from punting to piano recitals, museums to markets, botanic gardens to bicycling.

Getting around

The train and bus stations are 10 minutes walk and have connections to the international airports. The streets around the house have residential parking and some metered parking; this is £0.50 for 30 minutes, a maximum stay of 2 hours between 0900 and 1700 Mon-Fri. Visitor's permits are available for £2.00 per day on request.

Other Things to Note

I am a designer, an Architect and a dancer and live in the second room. I shall be out for half of the week, during working hours and for the other half at home. I have decorated the spaces myself and hope that you will enjoy staying here.

Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions. Send me a message if your are interested in staying, with your travel dates and a little bit about yourself. Thanks, I look forwards to hearing from you!

  • Great house, great location, and then there's Alejandra the great! I had an amazing stay in Mill Street in Cambridge. Alejandra was the perfect host and the house was beautifully decorated and spotlessly clean. Coffee and breakfast in the peaceful back garden was so relaxing, as well as the a glass of wine, olives and cheese in the evenings! Alejandra was extremely helpful with advice on Cambridge and even brought me Salsa dancing one night. I couldn't recommend a stay Alejandra's house highly enough. I've loads more to say, but you'll just have to experience it for yourself.. go raibh mile maith agat Alejandra!

  • Alejandra is such a lovely person, and a wonderful host ! Her house and garden are really beautiful, we can guess she is an architect !
Alejandra, par ailleurs, parle un français parfait. Merci pour ces échanges, j'ai apprécié nos conversations.

    Response from Alejandra:

Thank you Emilie! I loved having you to stay, sharing my home and garden with you. I especially enjoyed our chats about Latin American pottery and you sharing the stories and history of the archaeological sites you have visited.

  • Hi, I've already left a review for another stay so I'll keep this short and sweet. I really enjoyed both my stays at Alejandra's house. Alejandra is so accommodating and is a brilliant host. The house itself is perfectly located to see Cambridge and is beautifully decorated. I would highly recommend you stay here if visiting Cambridge. ..thanks again Alejandra.

  • A most pleasant stay indeed ! The house is quite conveniently located for anyone wishing to visit the University & its museums. Furthermore, everything was light, pleasant, perfectly clean - in sum, very attractive. Lastly, but rather importantly, Alejandra is a nice, warm, attentive host.
    I warmly recommend her place!

  • Alejandra is a lovely hostess, very friendly, thoughtful and generous. Her house is as beautiful and tidy as it looks from the photos, with a lot of character that comes from Alejandra's personality and interests. I had a very comfortable two nights staying here during a workshop, and if I'm in Cambridge in the future, I would definitely like to stay here again.

  • Alejandra’s AirBnb is a gem! I arranged for my friends to stay with Alejandra when they attended my graduation and they couldn’t say enough about the loveliness of her home, her outstanding hospitality and what a wonderful person she was. Alejandra was very easy and pleasant to communicate with and I knew she would look after my dear friends perfectly – even ensuring she had exactly what they like for breakfast on hand. My only regret is that I didn’t get to meet Alejandra myself! Many thanks Alejandra and I hope to cross paths should I return to Cambridge in the future.

  • This is a cosy, simple home in the heart of Cambridge, close to all conceivable amenities. The room I stayed in was small but comfortable, with plenty of cupboard space. Another guest was in the room next door, and very little noise carried between the rooms.
Alejandra was out of town for most of my stay, but in the short time we spent chatting it was clear that she's a thoughtful and gracious host. She went above and beyond in catering for my coeliac's re: breakfast, which was fantastic. She also provided maps of Cambridge and info re: the best spots for food, etc. I have recommended Alejandra's place to my company for future business trips to Cambridge.
