Laborie is a beautiful area on St. Lucia and staying there is a real treat! Evans lives in a quiet neighborhood with friendly neighbors a bit up the mountain from town. His house is very comfortable and immaculately clean with lovely breeze at night when you're sleeping. The bed is super comfy and the kitchen has everything you might need - we stocked up on breakfast food from the local grocery store (less than 10 min by car) and fresh fruit from street vendors.
The town of Laborie has a gorgeous beach and small restaurants with good local food. But if you rent a car, you can reach other beaches easily. Evans will help you get set up with a car rental, which was made so easy. Marcia from St. Rose car rental met us at the airport and drove us to Evans' house, which made our arrival stress-free.
However, the best part about renting this house was Evans, himself! He is a wonderful host. He brought us some local brews (Piton) when we first arrived at his house and a couple days later brought us some fresh mint from his garden that we used to make tea. We went to see him perform at Anse Chasenet, and he is a fantastic singer, so if you get the chance to see him live, go!!
Evans is the one-stop shop for an incredible St. Lucia experience! If you are seeking a local vibe and relaxation without tourists and big resorts, this is the place to be.
Evans took care of the car arrangements, had someone waiting for us at the airport, and delivered us to his beautiful home. The house is exactly as described, and so much more. He is an amazing host, and we can't wait to go back.
The neighborhood was quiet and off the beaten path, but only a few minutes drive to beaches, restaurants and grocery stores. The kitchen is fully stocked and even without air conditioning, stays very cool and comfortable.
I just returned back to the states today and miss this island and the beautiful friends we made during our stay.
Evans is very friendly and easy-going. The house is very new and very large - big enough for 10 people with no problem - and the neighbors are all very friendly. If you want to experience St Lucia with the locals instead of with resort tourists, Laborie is the place to stay, and you won't find a better deal than Evans.
*There are no taxis is Laborie, and certainly not up at the top of the mountain near Evans' house. You need to drive yourself around and have your own itinerary of places to see and things to do.
As other reviewers have indicated, this vacation is probably the best deal in St Lucia for value for money, and a quiet retreat. For those who enjoy exploring small-village life and getting away from more urban settings, this is the ideal place for you. Laborie was one of the few villages where you can be left to walk or swim alone if you'd like or where one can interact with local people. Rudy John Beach is also one of our favourite places to swim and walk
The house is just as nice as it appears in the ad, and Evans is super-friendly and eager to respond to questions or other requests.
Evans lives up a fairly-big hill and it is best to rent a car, get used to walking, or take a mini-bus. We have done all three in our two trips to St Lucia and should not detract from staying at this wonderful home. It took a little time to get used to driving on the left and working to avoid ditches and pot holes, but we travelled all over the Island and visited practically every village.
Ahhh, Laborie, St. Lucia and Evens Joseph, what an amazing vacation, we had at Evans' great home. First, Evans is a great guy, full of local knowledge and wants to share his island with the world. Everyone either knows Evans or is related to him. The house is located in a residential neighborhood, so you can expect, lots of interaction with the locals. I have traveled far and wide, but I have never found this kind of hospitality, I found in Laborie and throughout our adventures in St. Lucia. The locals make you, not want to leave, take a walk down the road from the house and you will meet everyone... Milton the bird man, who raises parakeets, Gregory, who offer you a taste of coconut milk and of course Baba and his family, who opened there house to us and show us how the famous St. Lucian coal pot works and shared a meal with us. The house is very simple 3/4 bedrooms, with a large living room and two full bath and a nice kitchen. There is no AC, but the breeze keeps the house cool day and night. This is rural living like Hilo, Hawaii. The alarm rooster go off at 6am, there is construction going on next door, the don't start until 8am, so no problems.
Laborie is a great fishing village, with one of the nicest beaches on the island, check out Ruby John's Beach, hangout and enjoy a drink at the Merry Yeti, swim in the blue green sea. Stop at Anne Marie's just pass the church for the best Roti, ask any one. Pickup fresh bread across from The Big Bamboo Restaurant... where you will sing karaoke on Thursday night, stop at the soccer field, where you will find a metal roof fishing shack, on the wall is a phone number for Lincoln, the lobster man, call him and he will bring you alive and kicking, big sweet Caribbean Lobsters. Get out and about, remember all beaches in St Lucia are public, even the one at the crazy expensive resorts. But be sure to stop at the Sea View Bar often for the sunset or next door for ice and spiced rum.
And remember everyone name, they will remember yours!!!!!
Sorry Mrs. Joseph! Stay a Evans place and enjoy. One last thing, Marcia, (Mar SEE Ya), will take care of your rental car needs at very good prices, Facebook page St Rose Car Rental. See ya next time Evans.
We had such a lovely time staying at Evans' place! When we arrived at his house we had no car so we couldn't go and do a big shop and we were tired so we just wanted to stay in so Evans was kind enough to bring us a chicken and some basic essentials to get us through to the next day! He also organised car hire for us the following day which couldn't have been easier.
His house is really spacious, comfortable and it has everything we needed. Communication with Evans was also easy and uncomplicated.
We loved Laborie particularly. We spent 3 weeks in total in St Lucia and Laborie was our favourite! The beach is excellent and quiet (except for Sundays when lots of families go down and have bbq's and parties - fun!). The town is small but very friendly, and we had no problems at all. There's not a huge amount going on in the south, especially at night, but because Evans' place was so affordable we went back up North for a few more days to enjoy the night life and bustle of Reduit Beach and Gros Ilet.
We wanted to rest after a very busy year, and just be on our own as it was our honeymoon and we didn't want to stay in a big resort, so staying at Evans' in Laborie was the best decision we made. You're close enough to the beaches and activities around Soufriere, as well the airport and bars in Vieux Fort, and most importantly you are not surrounded by tourists like you are in the north of the island.
We had an amazing time in St Lucia and staying in Laborie was the best place for us to spend our time.
Thank you Evans for your home and your kindness!
Evan's was an outstanding host and his home is beautiful. He made us feel very welcome. Nothing was too much trouble and he gave us lots of tips about the area. One evening he and his band gave us a private show as two members of our party were celebrating birthdays.
I would say that you need a car to explore the local area and the island. This house is far away from the very touristy north of the island but if you enjoy getting a real feel for the place you are visiting this house will be perfect for you.
Laborie beach which is a 5 minute drive or 30 minute walk away is in our opinion the best on the island.
Sandra, Tony, Nick and Julien were absolutely a treat to have as my guest. The part most important for me is that they enjoy every bit of their trip to St. Lucia. Sandra planted a coconut tree in my back garden. I would love if she and her group comes back in the near future to enjoy a few coconuts from that very tree when it bares. Thanks Sandra
