This centenarian house has been recently renovated and opened with archways, skylights, and a kitchen bay window. We provide sheets, towels and a light breakfast. There are no extra charges. Longer stays preferred if booking more than a month out.
The house has 2000 sq ft of living space with 10' ceilings. There are three spacious bedrooms, each containing a queen bed. The master bedroom connects to a master bath that can be locked or open to the rest of the house. The other full bath is off the kitchen.
There is plenty of communal space as the living room, dining room, and kitchen are tied together with large openings. Besides that, you can all hang out on the porch or the huge backyard.
Once booked, you will get the keypad code to get into the house. You have access to everything in the house and property.
Interaction with Guests
We don't live on site, but we are nearby should you need anything.
It's located in a racially diverse, historic, and vibrant neighborhood in the process of revitalization. To the right of us is an apartment and to the left lives a youth pastor with his two young children.
We are walking distance to downtown and free public transportation going to all major downtown attractions and Duke campus. There is enough on-site parking to comfortably fit three cars and more on the street out front.
Other Things to Note
The TV gets a few local channels and has Chromecast. This allows you to project shows and movies from your laptop or smartphone. Also, clean sheets and towels are provided.
Please remove your shoes in the house and smoke outside.
Awesome house! The three bedrooms are really huge - feels like three little apartments. Nice furnishings, beautiful hardwood floors, well stocked kitchen. Michael was very easy to communicate with and quickly took care of a minor issue when we first moved in. Great hosts and a great house.
The house was perfect for our 3 day trip. Lots of room for my kids to play inside and out. other reviewers have noted that the neighborhood isn't the best but it's fine. We had no problems.
Mike kept in touch with me to ensure we were happy and to answer questions.
I'd definitely stay again.
Michael and Jana's place was lovely and spacious. They were very accommodating and the house was in great condition.
First time using AirBNB, and we had a great stay here! It was definitely spacious and perfect for our group's weekend trip. Easy to get to, and so convenient for the wedding we attended at the Cotton Room (2 minutes away)! Coordinating with Michael and Jana was really simple, too.
They've added little extra amenities in the bathrooms and kitchen, which was a really nice welcoming touch. I love that the living and dining areas had plenty of room for us to all hang out together, but we each still had our own space since each of the bedrooms has its own little couch! My favorite part was being able to use the iron in a big laundry room, rather than a tiny front hallway to a hotel room...
Everything was clear, and there are very helpful instructions and information provided at the house. Thanks, Michael and Jana, for your hospitality.
We had a great experience. Stayed here with my wife and two boys. Older boy looking at colleges (Duke, UNC, NC State) and this was a very convenient base camp from which to explore. The house is newly renovated. Communication with hosts re: logistics was very smooth and they were quick to respond. The neighborhood feels a little run down and iffy. I wouldn't just walk around after dark. But that is probably true of any place this close to downtown Durham. Other than that, we felt safe, and we would be pleased to return.
Michael and Jana were very communicative; the home was wonderful and spacious and tastefully adorned, and we had a great time in Durham because of being able to return to a nice, quiet place!
Very nice house. The house seems like it was redone recently. Very nice attention to detail. Very tastefully decorated. Clean. Michael and Jana were very quick to respond if I had a question or needed something. It's not the nicest neighborhood but I always felt safe. I read reviews before that people had problems with loud noise/music...We did not have any noise problems at all. Would definitely recommend this house and would stay here again!

We are both well-traveled and have lived in the area for over 6 years. Between us, we've lived in the Pacific Northwest, Germany, and Ecuador. Jana is a director of catering and I'm a stay-at-home dad. Those little hand marks on your bedspread are probably from our son!
