The space

The surf shack is beyond cozy. It's private and quiet. Located walking distance to some of the best Santa Cruz surf breaks and beaches, Black's Beach, Santa Moe's, Sunny Cove. Swim. boogie board, surf or just collect beach glass. At night you can see the stars and hear the waves crash (when the surf is up). At night, get cozy and relax in this peaceful space. The bed may just be the most comfortable bed you ever slept in with all brand new Garnet Hill bedding.

Guest access

Our guests are welcome to relax in our ozone hot tub. Melt your tired muscles and worries away. We also provide 2 cruiser bikes with locks and helmets that make cruising the beach and Pleasure Point that much easier. Live like a local. Ride to Santa Cruz' best coffee shop, Verve, in the morning and then cruise the beach.

Interaction with guests

We live here, so we are around, but we absolutely will respect your privacy. The cottage is completely separate from our home. That being said, we love to meet new people and welcome you into our home. if you need anything at all or have any questions about Santa Cruz, please don't hesitate to ask us.

The neighborhood

Live Oak is a very beachy part of Santa Cruz. It still has old houses and a funky surf vibe. You can still see some of the old farms that made up most of Live Oak. A great Farmers Market on Sundays is literally around the corner. There are lots of restaurant options within walking distance too; Hawaiian, Mexican, Italian, Pizza.

Getting around

Nothing is very far in Santa Cruz. We are located between the Santa Cruz Harbor and Pleasure Point. With tons of fun areas to explore in between.

Other things to note

We are health conscious (of course, this is Santa Cruz :), so really don't want any smoking in the cottage or yard for that matter. We also cannot allow dogs. We have a new pup, Elle. She is very friendly. We ask that you make sure she doesn't go out the side gate.

House Rules
No smoking
Not suitable for pets
No parties or events
Check in is anytime after 3PM

We just ask just that quests be respectful. Quiet at night with music levels kept reasonable. Please recycle (bins provided). We also have a no pet policy. We have an older dog that gets stressed out by having other dogs around. We want her last years to be as stress free as possible.
Bring good vibes.

Cori and Rick's place was adorably amazing. It's so close to beaches, shops and restaurants, yet quiet at night so you feel like you're a million miles from everything. The beach cruisers made for a very convenient and local way to get around, we were even asked by fellow tourists for directions-we looked like locals. It definitely felt like a "home away from home"- very comfy and cozy. And the hot tub under the stars?! Perfect way to end our days. We will be back!

The cottage was very well appointed and thoughtful with items that anyone would need for their stay; we never lacked for anything. It's a small detail, but having great-smelling hand soap was a really pleasant touch. The place was really cute and nicely decorated. It was warm and comfortable; the heat worked great and the place stayed warm even after we left and had turned it off for the day. I had mentioned to Rick one day that the tea kettle handle had broken while we were using it, and to my surprise, there was a new one on our doorstep as soon as we were back later that day-- which I was not expecting-- that was quite helpful! Rick was very helpful with suggestions for places to go, and the suggested restaurants (one within walking distance) were really useful-- the most local restaurant was delicious. The bed, while initially really cozy, was not as comfortable for us, though it might be good for other people-- it was very soft. Their dog, which stayed in their front yard during the day, was an absolute sweetheart and we loved interacting with her. Their yard had lovely flowers, especially the giant honeysuckles!

The surf shack is a great little studio that is close to the ocean. It was very clean and had everything we needed for a quick get away. Close to the ocean and very conveniently located to everything we needed.

Cori's Surf Shack is a delight! It was the best way to end our coastal road trip in California. We had a great time in Santa Cruz, surfing, playing beach volley ball, and chilling out in the Shack! It was super easy to check in, and to communicate back and forth about extra details. Highly recommended!

Rick and I have been together for many years. We are just beginning a life as empty nesters. We work hard to be able to play hard as much as we can mountain biking, dirt biking, skiing, hiking in the Sierras and travelling to other beautiful beachy towns. Life is good.
