This inspiringly home has soaring spaces, an indoor bridge, lots of light and is a unique, one of a kind creation.
We live outdoors as much as in with comfortable outdoor furniture, hammock, garden, decks, patio and hot tub. The large sliding doors open up to let the outdoors and the indoors become one. The chef's kitchen is completely exquisite and a joy to create great meals in. This place is truly special.

Fantastic hosts -- we were lucky to arrange a stay at very short notice and Ilene and Don couldn't have been more helpful and responsive. The pictures don't do the house and setting justice -- we only wish we could have stayed longer!
Thank you for taking such good care of the house. We really felt how much you appreciated the place. Since building this house was a true labor of love, it is most rewarding to host people who really appreciate it.Remember the Japanese Farmhouse when you are looking for another special retreat. We would be happy to have you back any time.
This is truly one of the most beautiful houses we've ever stayed in. It sits on top of a mountain overlooking the water and is secluded by nature of the 2 mile private drive. In the evenings you can watch the sunset over the water and hear the sound of waves crashing on the beach reverberate through the gorge. The place itself was spotless and felt as much like a private resort as a home. While there are caretakers on the property we never saw them or were inconvenienced by them in any way — it truly felt like we had the whole property to ourselves. The hosts were both some of the kindest people we've had the experience of meeting through AirBnb and bent over backwards to make sure we were happy during our stay. I would recommend this house to anyone looking for a relaxing getaway in the most beautiful of settings.
The view from the west side of the property was really incredible. The house had sufficient space for our group and we enjoyed the west Deck of the house and spent most of our time there. Several concerns
1. The owners of the house must live there a lot as we had the feeling we were intruding on their space.
2. There are caretakers that live in a building 50 feet away and we felt we were being watched and that their existence was a priority over our enjoyment of the property.
3. There were restrictions on using the SPA and the Jacuzzi Tub.
4. The oven was very temperamental and one meal never got cooked.
5. When paying over $600 per night we would expect better.
WE WOULD NOT STAY AGAIN.
Wow, sometimes it's just not a good match, is it! This is not your typical vacation rental. It is truly a home and most people really appreciate the feeling of that, i.e incredibly high quality beds and linens, excellent quality & abundance of outdoor furniture, well-stocked (website hidden) 'restrictions on the use of the Spa and the jacuzzi tub', only thing I can think of that might offended this guest is that we ask people to shower before going in the hot tub to keep water quality high and lessen the need for chemicals. A problem with the oven? We did not hear from anyone. We make a point of inviting guests to call with the slightest concern or question. I'm sorry, but the 'feelings' of this writer are not based in reality. If this person wanted to give constructive feedback, he could have done so privately. This review is simply mean-spirited.
Beautiful home and very quaint neighborhood.
We had a great time at Don and Ilene's farmhouse. The house is a work of art and the setting is stunning. The house was just the right size for our party of seven, cozy and fun for our group activities and cooking, and big enough when we were all doing our own thing. It was also a great launching point for our hikes and excursions into town.
The reservation was canceled 8 days before arrival. This is an automated posting.
Fantastic house, stunning setting, great hosts! The pictures are very accurate: the house is beautiful with amazing views and many great details including a very well stocked kitchen, lovely hot tub, and blissfully comfortable beds. The setting is incredible. Good excursions include nearby beaches, Armstrong Grove, and Guerneville. Don met us to show us around when we arrived and Ilene was reachable by cell phone for questions. There was also a caretaker on the property (in a different residence) who was unobtrusive but helpful with our questions about restaurants in the area :) Our family had a wonderful time and highly recommend this rental to others. Thank you for opening your home for others, Ilene and Don!
We are a couple in our 60's, artist and builder. The building of our Japanese Farmhouse, completed in 2008, was a labor of love. We think of this house as a joint art project. Every aspect of the home reflects our aesthetic sensibility.
