This space accommodates two comfortably in a queen size bed. There is a dresser, a vanity a nice table and set of chairs great for getting work done or spreading out maps to plan your next adventure. The bathroom comes stocked with towels, hair dryer, shampoo, conditioner and body wash.
There is a back yard with a patio that is awesome for sipping morning coffee or taking in the last few rays of sun before the day ends.
About us: Lola is a small dog, she's been with me since Feb 2013. As far as I can tell she is 10 years old, a little moody but also very cuddly. Marcus is my nephew who is staying with me while he attends school here in SF. I work full time, and then some as a preschool teacher. Lola manages the home.
I am located at the edge of Bernal Height/outer mission and crossing into Glen Park. Comfortably close to all the action.
House is located on a main bus line that travels the span of the city from Embarcadero to Daly City. There are several bus lines within walking distance that can connect you to pretty much any place you'd like to go in the city. There is limited street parking, no permit is required. I have two transit passes (clipper cards) available for Muni and Bart within the city.
If you are looking for car share services, I recommend UBER, and Lyft. Their apps are really easy to use and their rates are fair.
If you are coming from SFO you can catch BART inbound towards Embarcadero, exit at Glen Park Station and transfer to the J taking it one stop to San Jose and Randall Street. From there It's a one block walk on Mission.
If you are coming from Oakland, you can catch the airport shuttle to Bart. Catch any outbound train to the 24th Street Station. At 24th you catch the 14, or 49 outbound for a 14 min ride to Appelton Street. Exit, cross the street walk half a block.
Parking in the city is hard to come by. I don't offer any private parking. If you have a vehicle be prepared for street parking on hills and occasionally a two block walk to the house.
You will have your own private room and bath, as well as access to the kitchen and it's appliances, living room, outdoor space and laundry.
Interaction with Guests
We are usually very busy with work, classes and activities but I am always available for our guest. There is a rare chance that we wont meet face to face, but I'm happy to chat via messaging or on the the phone about plans and transportation or anything in regards to your visit.
Being on the edge of Bernal Heights at Mission offers convenient positioning for public transit in and out of the city proper, and a lovely blend of residential and commercials buildings. It's a quintessential SF walking neighborhood. Grocery, coffee, hardware store, pet shop, library, park etc... all within a 15 min walk
14 and 49 Muni lines stop on our block. The 14 takes you all the way Downtown and connects to Bart at 24th Street. The 49 will take you to Fort Mason and the Marina District.
You can catch the J one block away and it will take you through Dolores Park and connect to the underground Muni Lines that run downtown and out towards ocean beach. the 24, 23, and 44 Muni Lines are a 5 min walk way and will connect you to pretty much anywhere in the city you want to go. Neither me nor my nephew drive and on the rare chance that we don't know how to catch public transit somewhere, we are very good at helping you figure it out.
Other Things to Note
This house was built in 1907. It had been sitting legally condemned when my family acquired it. Over the years I have worked on renovating and upgrading the interior. The exterior still needs a lot of cosmetic work. It can get a little chilly depending on the season. There are space heaters in both the bedroom and bathroom.
There is a bedroom off the kitchen; I ask if you have to do any late night cooking that you be aware of the noise. Also please don't turn off the front porch light, it is on a timer.
We had an excellent stay at Annamarie's place. She was extremely accommodating of our early flight allowing us to drop our bags off before the check in time, which was great!! At first glance when viewing the house from the road we were a little uncertain, but the inside is beautiful exactly as the pictures showed. Great little oasis of a back yard and the pup was a little cutie. Also the re-loadable clipper cards provided made it way easier to use the transit, which has multiple options a short walk from the front door. All together a great stay!
It's a NO!
Let's start positive: Anna is very friendly and hospitable. The room with the bathroom annex is very big and private. The neighbourhood is ok, with nice restaurants. Keep in mind, it takes you about half an hour to get downtown, though good connections by bus and streetcar.
When you arrive it's the house where you think ... "Please let it be the house next to it" But it's not ... The house isn't very clean (The room is fairly ok) and it's cold, damp. The dog is very cute, but sitting on the sofa results in a hairy tshirt. We put some beer in the fridge, glad that was about the only thing: leftover meals that surely weren't good anymore.
The towels in the bathroom just would not dry, because of the damp environment. The bed had to be covered with a strange kind of blanket, but because of the cold there was no real other choise. And if you are a light sleeper, the curtains are very minimal.
If you ask me, pay a little bit or even much more: Cleaner and closer to downtown.
We had a great rime staying at Annamaries . It was a perfect location for us with easy access for transport. Room was very comfortable and as described. Thanks Annamarie we had a wondeful time Lola looked after us very well !
Annamarie was a delightful host—warm, charming and very interesting.
Our room was spacious and relaxing with a large and very clean ensuite bathroom.
Located in an interesting neighborhood with good bus services to all the tourist attractions
We had full access to the laundry and kitchen with its view onto the small but beautiful back garden—complete with visiting humming-birds and friendly little dog Lola.
We stayed for 5 nights and would certainly recommend it and stay there again.

About the Host, Annamarie
I grew up in this house. When my family acquired it it had been sitting on a rotting lot, legally condemned. It still needs a lot of cosmetic work but over the years it's become a comfortable home.
I've visited around the US mostly road trips through Texas; the farthest east I've been is Indiana. I visit family in Mexico semi annually and took a trip to Peru a few years ago.
I studied theatre and Early Childhood Education. I am currently working as Lead teacher for a great co-op.
