Set in stunning countryside surrounded by vast, green open spaces, wild flowers, woods of chestnut trees, oaks and running brooks; such is the landscape waiting to embrace visitors to Castro dei Volsci, deep in the heart of the Ciociaria region. An imposing round-arched portal, the “silent witness to many passing through”, welcomes guests into our Hostelry.

The space

The rooms, fitted with all modern comforts, are elegantly furnished in a fashion reminiscent of past-times and ancestral memories; each room has been named after the person it once belonged to, such as Grandpa Rocco and Grandma Palma, the elderly owners of the house.
The materials used in furnishing the rooms are a tribute to the creative forces of nature as shaped by man; wrought iron, terracotta, porcelain and wood play a leading role in the interior decor, which has been designed with great care and good taste. Each space has its own particular style, guests can wind down and be pampered in the whirlpool bath fitted in each room whilst their senses are filled by a sense of serenity, instilled by the beautiful objects furnishing the room.

Guest access

Here at the holiday farm, our love and dedication to the fruits of the earth are still in tune with ancient rhythms. In our fields and vegetable patches, wholesome produce goes straight to the tables and served to our guests at the Hostelry. Age-old recipes with unique flavours; vegetables, farm-reared meat, wild boar and fine wines – all our ingredients are natural and carefully selected.
Our hospitality is just the same, warm and welcoming, just like that once offered to the travellers of yesteryear as they passed through the Valle del Sacco.

Barely an hour from Rome, this lovingly restored rural home is beautiful. Reclaimed wood, stone and iron work have all been used to create an upscale rustic experience in a scenic, pastoral setting. We were only able to stay one night en route to visit relatives but would have liked another day or two to settle in to the countryside, explore the hilltop towns and enjoy more meals at Pasqualino's restaurant across the road. Our suite easily slept 5 (queen bed on main level and 3 singles in the loft above). Suite is beautiful but common areas and bathroom are tight for a group of this size so better suited to a party of 2-3 people. Right outside the door on the garden patio is a large table for drinks and relaxation. There are also lounge chairs sprinkled around the grounds you can relax in. We were there in the middle of a heatwave and the aircon couldn't cool the loft adequately but this was an issue we found all over Italy this particular summer. The "restaurant" across the road is actually an agritourismo attached to a working family farm and would be an even better reason to stay here for an extended time and learn about local artisanal cuisine. We did have an amazing country breakfast with home-made everything (cakes, jams, prosciutto, eggs, etc.) and can only imagine how good lunch and dinner might be. Overall, glad we stayed as it was easily the most relaxing part of an otherwise packed touring itinerary.
