This is a 19th century Irish cottage which has been renovated in 2013 to offer old world atmosphere blended with 21st century comfort. The cottage is located on a quiet countryside road, about five miles from Newry in County Down (approx one hour thirty minutes from Dublin and Belfast airports) within easy reach of the famous Mourne Mountains and five minutes drive from the shores of Carlingford Lough. The house is surrounded by a little garden and an old orchard and offers self catering accommodation with a living room, a modern fitted kitchen, two bedrooms, (one ensuite with wheelchair access) and a bathroom. The living room has a comfortable sofa bed which extends the accommodation to up to six people. The house is designed for comfort with underfloor heating throughout and, for those wintry days when you need to see a real fire, you can snuggle up in front of a cosy wood burning stove in the living room.
The area is ideal for walking or cycling on country roads and the nearby town of Warrenpoint (5 minutes by car) offers a selection of excellent eating places.
Self catering bookings welcome with a minimum of two nights stay.
What a fantastic find! we were looking for a hidden gem, and this was it.. Barbara welcomed us into her wonderful home, and showed us around. They had left us a welcome pack of essentials, including their own hen laid eggs.. A gorgeous 2 bedroomed home from home. Double bedroom with en suite shower room, and twin bedroom with proper bathroom. The living room is cozy with a real log fire and the kitchen has everything you need!
The nearest shop is Bumpers, which has a little of everything conivence store, otherwise we went shopping in Newry to Sainsburys to stock up.
There isn't much telephone reception here, so be warned, you get good internet connection, but you should really enjoy the peace!
All four of us there all agreed, we would certainly go back once more, for a break away from the madness of life!
I only have high praise for Barbara and Collum on their generosity and homely welcome they gave us and had things in the house.
Thank you guys, thank you so much for a wonderful break.
Had a lovely stay in a clean, cosy and beautiful cottage. They have thought of everything and the little extras in the kitchen are a perfect touch. Thank you very much and we will be definitely be back
What a stunning cottage this is!
In arrival we were greeted by Dara, Colm's son, who showed us around the cottage, and gave instruction on how to work appliances etc.
Unfortunately there was a problem with the underfloor heating system and we had only the wood burning stove for heat until the second night. In saying that, having the stove in the living room was really cosy.
The house had everything one could wish for, and we especially appreciated the generously stocked cupboards containing all types of condiments. The generous hosts also left milk, butter, biscuits and fruit for us. Just such a thoughtful and much appreciated bonus.
The entire house is spacious, airy and beautifully decorated. anyone considering booking this house has such a treat in store.
