Awesomely located 2br apartment, 1 block from the subway in the heart of the vibrant Brooklyn food/shopping/art area Gowanus/Park Slope and Carroll Gardens - pullout sofa, Wi-fi, AC, kitchen, TV DVD, Netflix. 20 min from Manhattan by subway.

The Space

The apartment is located on the second floor of an owner occupied building. My wife and I live on the third floor so I'm never far if there are issues with the place or you simply want advice on where to eat, drink, visit or explore. On the first floor (email hidden) which is a great place for a nightcap. The bar is soundproofed and most residual noise can be drowned out by the AC units or fan as needed.

- Bedroom #1 (sleeps 2) - big, bright bedroom with 2 windows, queen-size bed, dresser, closet and air conditioner in summer
- Bedroom #2 - (sleeps 1) cozy bedroom with 1 window, twin size bed, dresser, wardrobe, desk, and fan in summer
- Living Room - flat screen TV (with DVD/Blueray and hooked up to wi-fi so you can log in with your Pandora or Netflix accounts to stream movies or listen to music), ceiling fan, and a brand new sofa that opens into a double bed
- Full kitchen stocked with a coffee maker, toaster, microwave, dishes, pots and pans, and other amenities in case you wish to eat in
- Full Bathroom with tub/shower combo
**A note about the noise: Our apartment is located on a busy street and we have had some guests complain about noise. We now provide white noise machines in both bedrooms to help address the issue. If you are super sound sensitive this might not be the place for you. However, if you 're looking for a centrally located apartment in a very cool part of town with tons of bars and restaurants in the immediate vicinity, we think you'll love it here!

The Neighborhood

For those not familiar with Gowanus, it is a tiny sliver of land sandwiched between Park Slope and Carroll Gardens. Gowanus is awesome in its own right due to its growing art and music scene (airbnb profiles it here: Walk one block to the Union stop on the R train which is 20 minutes from Manhattan. One stop away (or a 10 minute walk) is BAM, Brooklyn’s foremost cultural center for theatre, opera, music, and the amazing BAM Rose cinemas which shows a great mix of indie, mainstream, and retrospective films. Walk two blocks and you at the heart of 5th Avenue, one of the two main thoroughfares of Park Slope, 7th is the other 2 more blocks up. A brand new Whole Foods Market with a rooftop restaurant and beer hall is located on Third Avenue, a five minute walk from the apartment. Most locals agree that the best restaurants, nightlife, and shopping is on 5th (details of which I will provide in the welcome book). A couple more blocks up (15 minute walk) is the beautiful Prospect Park. Also in walking distance are the Botanical Gardens, Central Library and the Brooklyn Museum of Art. Walk the other direction a few blocks and you will be in charming Carroll Gardens, known for its boutiques and restaurants, profiled here:

Getting around

The closest subway stop is the Union stop on the R train, at the corner of Fourth avenue and Union. 20 minutes to downtown Manhattan.

Other Things to Note

Right around the corner are: NYC’s highest rated BBQ joint (Dinasaur BBQ); Runner and Stone (cafe/restaurant with great bread and pastries made in house); Littleneck (Cape Cod style seafood restaurant); the Pickle Shack (awesome vegetarian food and craft beers), The Royal Palms Shuffleboard Club ((website hidden)); an authentic mexican taco joint, cafes and more--- venture further and there's the Whole Foods Market, Al Di La (fabulous Northern Italian restaurant), great sandwich shops... too much to list. If you are a tourist feel free to look this stuff up, but the detailed guest guide in the apartment will have all the info you need. See live comedy and music any night of the week at the Bell House or Littlefield, both a five minute walk from the apartment.

Frequently asked questions:
Q: How is parking in the area?
A: Not bad by NY standards, occasionally it may take 15 minutes or so to find a spot.

  • I consider myself is very lucky to have my first Airbnb experience with Andy !
Andy is not only very helpful, but put into consideration for all the small details.
As I can see the umbrella behind the door; extra blanket, pillows, tissue papers and some magazines in the bedroom; The cooking pan, spices, plates, cups in the kitchen. I was arrived by a red eyes flight from Los Angeles, Andy accommodated my need to meet me and my son a lot of earlier, to let us in to have a good rest. He gave all the detail information in the neighborhood and you can find all maps on the desk. Although there was street noisy from the windows, but in just two blocks to the newly opened "Wholefood Market" and short distance to the subway station, and spacious living space of the apartment, fast internet and very strong hot water for the shower, I have to say, I have a pleasant stay with Andy!

  • andy is very kindness and friendly, the apartment is like you see in the photos, large, comfortable; the subway is close to him, and the place around is sfely and nice.
L'appartamento è come appare nelle foto, descritto, ampio, comodo. andy è gentile e disponibile.
Infine, rapporto qualità prezzo ottimo, ci torneremmo.

  • Andy is a very friendly and helpful host. If you need anything or have any questions you can be sure you'll get help from him. The apartment is very spacious and well equipped, not very newly renovated, but I guess that is the typical New York style ;) Metro is around the corner, with walking and transfer it takes about 45 min to get to Midtown Manhattan. Make sure to take a walk to the Brooklyn Museum and Prospect Park, which shows a really nice area of Brooklyn. You have several nice restaurants and coffee places in the neighborhood! Andy will tell you about them :)

  • We had three people stay in Andy's apartment for one week and thoroughly loved it. The apartment is great: very spacious and with everything you need (internet, Netflix included). Subway (R at Union Street) is 2 minutes away and so is the grocery store (and for extra 5-10 minute walk you can also reach Whole Foods); lots of restaurants in walking distance, coffee shops as well. Perfectly located within walking distance from Park Slope as well as Carroll Gardens/Cobble Hill. In addition, Andy was a great host - super communicative and accommodating. Would definitely stay again and highly recommend Andy's apartment!

  • We stayed at Andy's apartment back in March on our first ever trip to New York and our first ever AirBnB experience. We couldn't have been made to feel more welcome, from the minute we arrived sometime after midnight! We really enjoyed our stay in this (well described), clean and comfortable, stylish apartment. It's located close to two subway stations (super convenient) and just a few blocks from the biggest Wholefoods I've ever been to! Andy gave us some fab recommendations for local cafes and restaurants, many of which we fell in love with right away. Absolutely loved New York, but I don't think it would have been quite the same if we'd stayed in some boring, bland hotel. Staying in Andy's apartment really made us feel at home, and having him and his wife just upstairs was really helpful. By the way, if you're from a big city (such as busy old London) then the street noise shouldn't really pose any problem to you at all (it wasn't nearly as loud as where we're from)... but there are some clever white noise machines in the bedrooms which would help if you're sensitive to it. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend this apartment to friends or family. Thanks for the hospitality!

  • Andy's apartment is great! I stayed there with friends for a (email hidden) Building up the street. Convenient location and tons of great food. Andy was super flexible and accommodating. I would recommend this place to people for sure. Bonus: the bar downstairs has friendly staff and cheap drinks. Loved it. Thanks, Andy!!!

  • Had a great stay at Andy's apartment. We communicated with Andy before our trip and he was very accommodating as our flight was delayed 6 hours due to weather and he was still able to let us in and greet us even though we arrived wayyyy off schedule. Nicely decorated and homey. He had a map to give us of nearby restaurants and subway stops. You can hear some street noise and noise from the bar downstairs but after a busy day, it's nothing you can't sleep through. The most direct subway line to the place wasn't fully running during our stay which meant about 45 mins travelling to get to Manhattan, but at no fault of the host. Overall good experience.

  • Andy was very helpful and accommodating - the apartment is very well located (one very close subway station and a close one which is even better) and the neighbourhood is safe - loveable whole foods store is close by, so is a mac repair store for those who have trouble with their iPhone, iPod, iMac, iPad, iWhatever - there is another whole foods alike store extremely close by so getting good food is not an issue and getting around town neither!

My wife and I live in Gowanus, Brooklyn with our two cats, Mish Mish and Mumkin. We love traveling and have been on some amazing trips together, including a cross-country road trip, camping in Maine, a week in Istanbul and a recent trip to Portugal. When we travel we love spending a number of days in a city and trying to get a local's perspective. We like exploring and finding restaurants, cafes and bars off the beaten track. We love trying new foods and soaking in the local flavors. When we are in Brooklyn we love going out to new restaurants in the area as well as having friends over for home-cooked meals. During the summer we love riding our bikes to parks in the area and going to outdoor music and movie events. During the winter we love playing board games with friends, going to movies, and cooking big meals. We are very excited to host fellow-travelers in our Air Bnb apartment. We have put a lot of thought and care into setting up a cozy and inviting space for out of town guests. Our goal is for people to feel right at home in the apartment. We are excited to share our favorite local sites and establishments and help our guests experience the neighborhood like a local Brooklynite. We are also very knowledgable about other surrounding Brooklyn and Manhattan neighborhoods and can offer suggestions of places to go-- and help you figure out how to get there.
