Awesomely located homey 2 bedroom apartment with pullout sofa, 1 block from the subway in the heart of the vibrant Brooklyn food/shopping/art area Gowanus/Park Slope and minutes away from Carroll Gardens - Wi-fi, AC, kitchen, TV with blueray/DVD, Netflix. 20 minutes from Manhattan by subway.
The apartment is located on the second floor of an owner occupied building. My wife and I live on the third floor so I'm never far if there are issues with the place or you simply want advice on where to eat, drink, visit or explore. On the first floor is a super-friendly/hip bar which is a great place for a nightcap. The bar is soundproofed and most residual noise can be drowned out by the AC units or fan as needed.
- Bedroom #1 (sleeps 2) - big, bright bedroom with 2 windows, queen-size bed, dresser, closet and air conditioner in summer
- Bedroom #2 - (sleeps 1) cozy bedroom with 1 window, twin size bed, dresser, wardrobe, desk, and fan in summer
- Living Room - flat screen TV (with DVD/Blueray and hooked up to wi-fi so you can log in with your Pandora or Netflix accounts to stream movies or listen to music), ceiling fan, and a brand new sofa that opens into a double bed
- Full kitchen stocked with a coffee maker, toaster, microwave, dishes, pots and pans, and other amenities in case you wish to eat in
- Full Bathroom with tub/shower combo
You'll have complete private access to the apartment
For those not familiar with Gowanus, it is a tiny sliver of land sandwiched between Park Slope and Carroll Gardens. Gowanus is awesome in its own right due to its growing art and music scene (airbnb profiles it here: https://www.airbnb.com/locations/new-york/gowanus). Walk one block to the Union stop on the R train which is 20 minutes from Manhattan. One stop away (or a 10 minute walk) is BAM, Brooklyn’s foremost cultural center for theatre, opera, music, and the amazing BAM Rose cinemas which shows a great mix of indie, mainstream, and retrospective films. Walk two blocks and you at the heart of 5th Avenue, one of the two main thoroughfares of Park Slope, 7th is the other 2 more blocks up. A brand new Whole Foods Market with a rooftop restaurant and beer hall is located on Third Avenue, a five minute walk from the apartment. Most locals agree that the best restaurants, nightlife, and shopping is on 5th (details of which I will provide in the welcome book). A couple more blocks up (15 minute walk) is the beautiful Prospect Park. Also in walking distance are the Botanical Gardens, Central Library and the Brooklyn Museum of Art. Walk the other direction a few blocks and you will be in charming Carroll Gardens, known for its boutiques and restaurants, profiled here: https://www.airbnb.com/locations/new-york/carroll-gardens
The closest subway stop is the Union stop on the R train, at the corner of Fourth avenue and Union. 20 minutes to downtown Manhattan.
SOME LOCAL FAVORITES:
Right around the corner is NYC’s highest rated BBQ joint (Dinasaur BBQ), Runner and Stone (cafe/restaurant with great bread and pastries made in house), Littleneck (Cape Cod style seafood restaurant), the Pines (an upscale bistro), an authentic mexican taco joint, cafes and more--- venture further and there's the Whole Foods Market, Al Di La (fabulous Northern Italian restaurant), great sandwich shops... too much to list. If you are a tourist feel free to look this stuff up, but the detailed guest guide in the apartment will have all the info you need. See live comedy and music any night of the week at the Bell House or Littlefield, both a five minute walk from the apartment.

Had a great stay at Andy's apartment. We communicated with Andy before our trip and he was very accommodating as our flight was delayed 6 hours due to weather and he was still able to let us in and greet us even though we arrived wayyyy off schedule. Nicely decorated and homey. He had a map to give us of nearby restaurants and subway stops. You can hear some street noise and noise from the bar downstairs but after a busy day, it's nothing you can't sleep through. The most direct subway line to the place wasn't fully running during our stay which meant about 45 mins travelling to get to Manhattan, but at no fault of the host. Overall good experience.
Andy was very helpful and accommodating - the apartment is very well located (one very close subway station and a close one which is even better) and the neighbourhood is safe - loveable whole foods store is close by, so is a mac repair store for those who have trouble with their iPhone, iPod, iMac, iPad, iWhatever - there is another whole foods alike store extremely close by so getting good food is not an issue and getting around town neither!
andy and his wife were perfects hosts
the apartment was big, clean and had everything you need for a perfect stay.
great place to stay and pretty good location. the subway is just one block walking and you can get to Manhatan in just 20 min!
If we return to NY we will stay at their apartment.
I highly recomended!
Séjour parfait !
Hôte très accueillant
Je le recommande
Andy's apartment was perfect for our three-day stay in New York. It's just a block from the R train and one block further to one of Park Slope's main drags, with a Whole Foods up the street. The apartment itself was clean, light, and spacious, with tasteful and funky decor. Andy's wife stopped by once to check in and they kindly let us borrow some umbrellas, but other than that, we had our own little world. The only downside to this place is that the bar downstairs can be loud until the wee hours of the morning, but the hosts are aware of this and thoughtfully provided a white noise machine in the master bedroom. Still, if you're not used to New York, you might want to pack some earplugs.
We stayed over the Christmas holiday - perfect location (close to my relatives, as well as convenient to anything you might need), very spacious and so, so great to have a full kitchen!!
Most important to us (because we didn't actually spend all that much time in the apartment) - comfortable beds and great temperature and water pressure in the shower!
Andy was was very nice and extremely accommodating in terms of our arrival and departure times. The apartment meets all your basic needs, and if you are primarily looking for a crash pad, this is a great place. It is just a block and a half from the subway and conveniently located next to Park Slope. The apartment, however, is quite loud. We found both the bar to be loud and just generally, you can hear what's happening in the apartment above, and out on the street. If you're a heavy sleeper, or don't plan to come home until late, this probably won't be an issue.
We loved staying here! Great location, we walked everywhere! I would totally recommend it. Andy was great, helpful, and very professional. It was VERY clean.
The only slightly negative thing I would say it is above a Bar. This does not bother us at all, as we were on a "Bar" schedule. And the Bar downstairs was awesome and friendly, so that was cool too!
Apartment was as described. Comfortably accommodated 3 men. Location was good with nice restaurants and bars within walking distance.
Andy was the perfect host and went out if his way to ensure we enjoyed our stay. Would definitely stay again.
