A-frame house surrounded by open space-100 feet to miles and miles of trails in protected land. Three bed, two bath house on dead-end street. French doors open onto deck with fire pit and propane heater. 30 to 45 min. drive to San Francisco (16 miles to the Golden Gate Bridge). Great road and mountain biking right out the door.
Our professionally decorated home has a renovated kitchen with commercial grade appliances, including a six burner Dacor gas cooktop. The decor can be described as Pottery Barn meets West Elm, with a few colorful Oriental rugs as accents. We recently added eleven skylights, so there's lots of natural light. We also recently added a 600 square foot patio with a fire pit under the oak trees, just outside French doors from the living room. Most of the living space is in the great room area, and the bedrooms are pleasant but somewhat small. Overall, the place is very clean and uncluttered. The downstairs bathroom was recently renovated and features a deep soaking tub. The upstairs bathroom has a shower, and a new tile floor. Our daughter's bedroom upstairs has a comfortable single bed. There are bunkbeds in our son's room downstairs. Upstairs is the master bedroom with a new, California King size bed, with new flannel sheets and Ralph Lauren bedspread and down pillows. In the great room, there is an air conditioner which is hardly ever necessary, but available in case you wish to use it. We have a good movie collection, and two large flat screen televisions, with a movie sound system in the family room, along with a long L-shaped couch. We also have Comcast On-Demand and Netflix subscriptions. We enjoy entertaining here, as the great room and patio all flow together, making a cheerful and attractive party space where everyone can be near each other, but with enough space to relax. It is a great place to be, but not too delicate that you have to worry much if you bring your children or small dog.
Downtown Fairfax is a mile and a half away - with many restaurants and shops, and live music every night of the week in multiple venues. Great breakfast/coffee places, lots of great people-watching. Fairfax is described as "Mayberry on Acid". As the birthplace of mountain biking, as well as the gateway to rural West Marin, you'll see hundreds of cyclists, both road and mountian, pour through Fairfax on the weekends. With a great hippie vibe, Fairfax is fun to hang out from the early morning to late at night. We love living here, and we know you'll love visiting! For a great article about Marin in the New York Times - search for "36 Hours in Marin".
Our neighborhood is extremely quiet and is bordered by open space. The street is shaded by large oak trees. It's a great place to walk both day and night (bring a flashlight). We are near the end, so the open space trails are just steps away. Downtown Fairfax is a vibrant area with restaurants, bars and shops. We love it here, and we think you will too!

We had a nice, relaxing stay in the A-Frame in the woods. The front deck is the best part of the house - we had great weather and spent all of our time out there. We loved the hiking trail that is about 200 feet or so down the road. The kitchen had all the supplies we needed and it was especially nice to be able to grill out on the deck. The hosts left useful hiking/biking trail maps and information about where to eat in Fairfax, etc...
This house was perfect for our family vacation. It has both great open spaces for spending time together and enough bedrooms for us to all sleep comfortably. We loved the A-frame style with its wonderful skylights and windows – it really felt like we were nestled in the woods. Fairfax is a great town to stay in: nice variety of restaurants, local bakery, movie theater, ice-cream parlor and an organic grocery store that we got to know well. Staying at Scott's made it easy to go hiking, one of the trails even started right outside the door. I highly recommend staying here!
Our crew visited Fairfax for a film project and stayed at Scott's house. It's the perfect house for the Fairfax experience. Plenty of parking, multiple bathrooms, modern kitchen, and a cozy sunroom. Scott was easy to work with, and our stay was effortless. Thanks!
Heaven. We just enjoyed a blissful weekend here, and cannot recommend it enough. The house is well designed, well appointed, and has awesome energy. I would come back in a second.
The home is cute, bright, and located near the end of a cul-de-sac that leads to a number of trails. One of those trails leads to an easy 15-20 minute walk to a nice waterfall. The home is very quiet, which we welcomed as city dwellers. Downtown Fairfax is a little more than a 5-minute drive, and we found a couple of nice restaurants, a coffee shop that's a favorite of the mountain biking crowd, and Frogs Hot Tubs. It's a small town, and the residents are very friendly and welcoming.
Their adorable little place looks just like the pictures... maybe even nicer than the pics. They were lovely hosts, and even left us a bottle of champagne!
Another thing to note is that this is actually a 3 bedroom, not a 2 bedroom like their description. I realize that one of the bedrooms doesn't have a closet, but I would still consider that a bedroom.
Thank you for a wonderful stay guys! ~Rose & Nat
This was a lovely and comfortable house. The hosts were welcoming, responsive, and accommodating. It’s A-frame style just seemed to blend with the lovely setting outside. The views from their porches are beautiful and one is just a minute or two walk to wonderful hiking, mountain biking, and road cycling. The kitchen is complete and convenient and there is spacious common space, as well as rooms to be off by oneself.
This is a great spot for lovers of Mt Tam and the unspoiled lands of the Marin Water District. The trails up the mountain leave a short distance from the house and the Fairfax-Bolinas road is a short distance away. The house is great, particularly the kitchen/dining/living room; good spot for making and sharing meals (we had Thanksgiving there). The town of Fairfax is a small treasure. A great stay all around.
We had a wonderful week in Fairfax. The town is very cute, quite and interesting. The trail behind the house was very nice. The house was very spacious and had a beautiful outdoor area. The house is a short drive to San Francisco and other attractions such as Napa and Sonoma. We had a terrific time and really appreciated the recommendations left by Scott at the house.
We had a great time at the Schneider's home. We stayed for two weeks but definitely wished it was longer. The home is open and bright and the kitchen is fantastic. We used the grill on the deck and enjoyed easy (50 yds!) access to the trailhead for runs, walks, and bike rides in Cascade Canyon.
