The Space

Welcome to our little haven of comfort and convenience! Set in a beautiful, secluded and lush flower and vegetable garden, our two-person cottage located next to the house we live in offers visitors a safe, centrally located stay-over that’ll ensure your visit to Johannesburg is both hassle-free and memorable.

Our suburb, Mayfair West dates from the heyday of Johannesburg’s golden age when it was a mining boomtown. Today it’s a vibrant and colourful multi-cultural community, typical of the changing and regenerating face of the city.

The cottage is a spacious 50 square meter living area featuring a kitchenette and sitting area, sunny bedroom and modern en-suite bathroom with shower.

The kitchen includes a fridge, microwave oven, toaster, crockery and utensils. You’ll also find a ready supply of freshly ground coffee and South Africa's famous Rooibos tea! If you stay longer than three days, a complementary bottle of South African wine will await you on your arrival.

In summer you can have meals outside in any of the three outside garden patio areas.

The bedroom features a comfortable double bed with crisp linen and duvet. The room also includes a hair dryer, extra blankets, towels, heater and television.

There are many extras that make it a home away from home - loads of books to read, music and local television. It goes without saying that the WiFi is free.

Guest Access

You’ll also be within a five minute walk from our local shopping mall with a post-office, supermarket, banks, and the best fish and chips in town!

Because we’re centrally located most sightseeing attractions and places of interest are within easy reach and only a short ride away. The University of Johannesburg takes less than five minutes to get to, while the SABC, Apartheid Museum and Gold Reef City, and the attractions of the rejuvenated Johannesburg CBD and the arts districts of Newtown and Braamfontein are all reachable in less than fifteen minutes drive.

For transport, we’re a mere ten minute drive from the Gautrain Park Station from where you can catch either a taxi or the famous tourism red bus for a day trip around Johannesburg's main attractions. A new and fun travel option is the Tuk-tuk, three-wheeled scooter taxis that run in our area and can connect you with Rosebank, Melville and other suburbs for less than three Euro per trip.

Interaction with Guests

Please let us know your approximate arrival time beforehand so that we can make arrangements to meet you at the cottage. We'll then show you around and share a few tips and tricks about the area, what to see, where to eat, and so on.

  • Adeline and Chal's place was really really cosy. It had anything you could imagine and it also came in the company (email hidden) garden.

If you're here during the colder months of Johannesburg, don't worry! There are plenty of heaters to keep you warm during the night and also electrical blankets that you can use.

All in all, this place was GREAT and I would definitely recommend this to you :)

  • This is the best Airbnb accommodation I have ever stayed. It was very comfortable and peaceful. It had the most beautiful garden in front the cottage. Adeline paid attention to every smsll detail within the cottage. I wished I could have stayed longer but for the time I spent there Adeline was most attentive, arranging a pickup for me to go to the Lion Park for a safari for example. The perfect host in fact. Would recommend it to anyone

  • 2 night stay for a business trip
    - Charl and Adeline were really friendly: Cosy cottage + friendly hosts = Fantastic experience.
    - Cottage itself was quaint and felt that all my needs were met.
    - Great plus was the Netflix subscription - watched my first 2 episodes of House of Cards. Would go back just to finish the series!
    - Relatively close the heartbeat of Jozi (Sandton) but also situated in an up an coming vibey part of Jozi.
    - Felt safe at all times and could come and go as I needed.
    - Seriously well priced for what you get.
    - Quick to respond and communication with Adeline and Charl was painless.

  • We had an excellent 2-night stay at Adeline/Charl's place. We couldn't meet Adeline since she was out but Charl was one of the best hosts that we have stayed with. The cottage feels really like a cottage - very spacious, in the middle of an extensive garden in his backyard with its own kitchen, bathroom etc. Charl is well-travelled and it was really a pleasure conversing with him. He knows SA very well and gave us some fantastic tips for the rest of our itinerary. Overall, you can't find a better place and better host in Joburg :)

  • Adeline and Charl were fantastic and very helpful hosts. Their garden cottage was a peaceful garden oasis after our long days of adventure and travel. The cottage was large, private, and beautifully decorated. A&C included numerous small touches that made the cottage a welcome home for weary travelers. Cream was in the fridge for our morning coffee, extra soap was provided for our shower, and they left fresh fruit for us on the kitchen table. These small, thoughtful gestures made our travels so much more comfortable and relaxing. Finally, Adeline saved us at least two hours of driving by suggesting that we fly out of Lanseria rather than driving back to OR Tambo after our elephant sanctuary tour. It was a totally life-saving suggestion. I'd highly recommend their cottage to all Jo'berg travelers. Their lovely garden and their fantastic hospitality is not to be missed.

  • Absolutely fantastic staying at the cottage… very comfortable, roomy, peaceful and serene garden. Adeline was a wonderful hostess to chat to and she gave me plenty of tips on Jo'burg.

  • Adeline and Charl are very friendly, welcoming people who can tell you a lot about Johannesburg and the area they live in.. We got a lot of great tips from them! The cottage is clean and comfortable and has everything you need. Good choice!

  • Their little guest cottage and garden made Jozi cozy... A relaxed and stress free environment made for a great start for our road trip from Johannesburg to Cape Town.

Our hosts were kind and keen we got the best out of out stay, offering tips and advice on what to see and do.

  • It's a lovely place to stay and we missed nothing, it's like at home. Adeline & Charl are great hosts, we had great chats and walks together and they involve you to see the nice and cultural spots of Joburg. We can recommend to book also the breakfast, it's amazing ;) what Adeline & Charl offer. We stayed together with friends not with hosts.

Best regards & thank you very much Adeline & Charl and we're happy to see you soon :D

  • We were spoiled staying with Adeline. One of our best AirBnB experiences ever. She and her husband were incredibly warm and welcoming and gave us multiple suggestions for restaurants, directions, etc in the nearby area. The cottage is beautiful, spotless and an ideal place to unwind after a long day. I would suggest anyone staying here needs to have a car. There's not much within walking distance as far as restaurants, shopping or nightlife. Melville, a trendy young college neighborhood is about 10 minutes away.

About
We are two native Johannesburgers who love the city and know it inside out. We have both travelled extensively both abroad and around South Africa, so have experience of the needs of travellers when staying over away from home. That’s why we believe our cottage fits the bill for all discerning visitors to Johannesburg! Adeline is an accomplished chef and you most probably won't leave without a packet of her mouth watering chocolate chip cookies. Charl is a photographer, and you'll see some of his images from the far-off corners of South Africa adorning the walls of the cottage. We’re sure you’ll enjoy the hospitality we offer, and hope to meet you soon!
