The space
Just 45 minutes from Yosemite’s south entrance, hidden among towering cedars and ancient sequoias, lies a sanctuary of stillness and wild beauty.
Here, on 92 private acres in the golden Sierra foothills, time slows. The air is fragrant with pine, cedar, and sun-warmed earth. The sky opens wide above you.
Follow winding forest trails to secluded swimming holes; some with soothing waterfalls.
Glide across the glassy waters of Manzanita Lake in one of our complimentary kayaks as ducks and geese swim by. You might even spot a blue heron!
Watch the sun slip behind the hills in a blaze of color, and fall asleep beneath a canopy of twinkling stars to the call of owls and even a chorus of tree frogs in the spring.
Wake to birdsong, sip morning coffee in the Shady Grove as deer and rabbit wander by, and let the day magically unfold with quiet wonder.
Beneath the sheltering limbs of a 250-year-old sequoia, breathe deeply. You are standing in the presence of something ancient, enduring.
Down by the river, carved boulders bear the marks of native peoples who once gathered here—grinding acorns into flour, leaving behind quiet traces of a life attuned to the land. The past is always whispering.
Stay in one of two historic rooms inside the 100-year-old Peace Cabin—once the first ranger station built by Mr. and Mrs. Shinn. In its early days, rangers of the Sierra and Yosemite found rest and warm meals here. Julia Shinn—who would later become the first woman employed by the U.S. Forest Service—welcomed them with grace, even mending their clothes by firelight.
Adventure is close: miles of wild trails, clear lakes, and cascading waterfalls surround you, and Yosemite National Park is always waiting for adventure lovers.
Whether you’re seeking solitude, inspiration, or simply a return to something real, you’ll find your place here—where rustic charm and quiet comforts meet, and where the healing rhythm of the earth is never far from reach.
