Charming and spacious hacienda with 16' ceilings on the edge of the colonial centre. Fully equipped kitchen and refreshing pool make this casa a welcome retreat from the very busy street. Easy walking to restaurants and city center and taxis everywhere. Markets and supermarket nearby. Cleaners were thorough and efficient. However, the washing machine did not work and the cable television cut out after three days. So the pool and the patio privacy were an relaxing oasis.
The house is beautiful, spacious, and located in a fabulous residential neighborhood. I spent a week in the house with my wife, mother-in-law, and two daughters (8 and 12). The beds were all comfortable, the TV worked great (we caught a couple of college football bowl games), internet was reliable and speedy, and the kitchen was well-equipped. We never used the AC units - the overhead fans were sufficient although the mosquitoes were a bother some nights. What really sets this house apart is the pool. It is spacious, refreshing, and private. This pool and the little garden patio turns this house into an oasis.
The Mercado de Santiago is around the corner. There are great stalls in the market for quick, cheap, and yummy meals - sopa de lima, panuchos, salbutes, tortas, horchata - all available with a lively, family-friendly environment. We visited many of the squares around Merida, but always came back to this one because of its combination of beauty, eateries, and atmosphere. The house is also well-situated for navigating Merida by car. Driving in Merida is actually quite easy, and I was always able to park our car right in front of the house.
We never had the pleasure of meeting Halina or the property manager Rosalinda. Check-in and out was managed smoothly by email with a lockbox for the keys.
In conlusion: rent this house - you won't regret it!
It was very good that the home caretaker had arranged for someone to pick us up at the airport as we arrived in a late flight and open the house for us. The size of the rooms exceeded our expectations with 5-meters high ceiling, a large kitchen very well appointed. The pool is stupendous and was much enjoyed after a long day in the hot and humid weather of Merida.
The house is located in a very quiet neighborhood, about 8-10 (long) blocks from downtown, a 20-30 minutes walk or a 5-minutes taxi ride (20-25 pesos); 2-3 blocks away there is a plaza with a supermarket, a small but colorful Sunday market, and plenty of mexican eateries.
All was well and we fully enjoyed our stay.
Halina and Rosalinda are wonderful hosts. They were patient in working things out through pay pal. The house is awesome and I will stay as long as Halina will let me.
After taking the Houston flight to Merida, we were greeted at the house by Rosalinda who showed us around this charming house with colonial features of original pasta tile floors and wood beamed ceilings. We came for the large pool and were not disappointed. It is perfect for a day of floating and swimming. Half in sun morning and afternoon with full sun mid-day, the pool is totally private and deep enough. The street does have buses going by but the master bedroom is in the back with windows and doors opening onto green vegetation and a patio. The bed was not comfortable and one side slanted towards the floor. The kitchen had nice appliances and several bottles of water were left. The living room sofa is not comfortable and has a covering on it that is hot to sit on while watching TV but with the noise from the street, we didn't spend much time watching TV there. The neighborhood is more residential with few restaurants. There is a hotel across the street where we had breakfast a few times. The Santiago market is close for fruits and vegetables and there is a small grocery for beer and snacks by the market. A short 10 to 15 minute walk down Calle 59 and you are downtown with its restaurants, hotels and plazas. There is a second bedroom with two twin beds in the front so noise would be an issue. Both bedrooms are A/C but with the fans overhead, we only used it when it was really hot at night. The bathrooms were light but the shower heads needed CLR to rid the blocking calcium deposits, a common problem in Merida. A good place to stay when you want to chill out at the pool. We enjoyed watching the birds, dragon flies, iguanas and possums at various times of day. Mosquitos were not a problem like other houses we have stayed in so that was a pleasant relief. Just a small spray around the outside table once a day kept them away. Rosalinda was a very good manager and emailed us when the cleaners were coming and the pool guys came three times in two weeks to clean the pool and check the chlorine. The pool is filtered. Rosalinda scheduled a driver to pick us up for the drive to the ADO bus at Fiesta Americana and he was early and very pleasant. We would stay there again for the pool but wish the mattress could be replaced.
The pictures tell the story. This is a beautiful old house with high ceilings but the best feature is certainly the pool, which one would never want to leave. Check in and check out were easy as a breeze. The location is great with a nice walk to the main plaza but the neighborhood had a complete lack of small tiendas to stock the kitchen with and even the supermarket 5 blocks away had only a very limited selection. Until we rented a car and stocked up, preparing our own food was harder than expected (the house also did not have the basics-oil, sugar, spices but we left some of those for the next visitor). We also found the couches and the beds to be fairly uncomfortable.
Regardless we would definitely stay here again if we have the opportunity to visit Merida and would recommend Casa Pescadores to others as well.
This house is gorgeous, with any comfort you might need. Halina's friends in Mérida made all the arrangements for arriving and leaving easy as could be. Would definitely recommend to all!
Hi, originally I am from Poland., living in Canada (Vancouver for 20 years), now for past 3 years me and my husband live in small city- Rawdon in Quebec.
We love travelling and we fall in love with Merida from the first sight.
Some of my favourite places (beside Mexico) are Peru and Bolivia and recently -Bali.
Me and my husband love driving! Three years ago we drove from Vancouver to Merida and then back to Montreal. One year later we did it again - from Quebec to Yucatan and back. It was fantastic!
I am interior decorator and I when we don`t travel I enjoy renovating and decorating our house.
