Gladys was very sweet and accommodated for our very late arrival without any issues, she waited for us and gave us a very warm welcome.
The flat was as described, everything that we needed was in place. As I was travelling with a friend, we wanted to sleep in separate beds/ rooms, so having an extra real bed in the living room was a huge plus for us.
The location was extremely convenient, 2 minute walk from the underground station and a grocery store just around the corner open 24/7. The neighbourhood was very quiet (I could only here the birds singing in the morning) but at the same time it felt very safe.
On the day of our leave, Gladys let us stay in the flat until later in the evening as we were catching a late flight. She was there to say goodbye and she offered to book a cab for us to take us to the airport.
Overall our experience at staying here was great. Gladys helped us with everything we needed as she was always around.
If you need a spacious convenient place to stay away from the noise of Manhattan, this is the place, no second thoughts.
This was my first experience using AirBnB, and based on this stay, I'll definitely be using it again. I interacted with Bob in setting up the reservation, and he was prompt in his communications and helpful. I arrived at the apartment to find Gladys finishing up the cleaning. She was very friendly, clearly loved the neighborhood and had many good suggestions and tips for my time there. The apartment itself was about what I expected based on the description and pictures, though I was pleasantly surprised to find the trappings of a small, functional eating area with a toaster, full refrigerator and coffee maker. (Gladys was even kind enough to leave some yogurts and milk for me.) As someone who travels for business, it was very nice to have a homey spot to stay in for a few nights verses a cold hotel room.
My only regret is that I was extremely busy during the visit and had little time for leisure. But what time I did have was spent walking around the area, which was amazing. The house is a block away from Broadway in Astoria and only four or five blocks from Steinway Ave. These two streets are packed with interesting restaurants and bars. It was also, literally, the most culturally diverse place I've ever been, and I've traveled quite extensively. The location is also extremely convenient with regard to public transportation, and is only two blocks from the M and R subway stops (which quickly take you into Manhattan).
I hope to come back to Bob and Gladys's soon, next time to explore the area. Thanks for a great stay!
We had a wonderful time staying in Bob and Gladys's apartment. It was located in a great area of Queens, very close to the train. The apartment itself was clean and safe with a large television and bed. Gladys and Bob are the best! So nice and cool, making jokes and always taking care of us. Rarely met such friendly people! I can highly recommend their apartment!
The rooms and parking were exactly as described, which is to say not spacious but more than sufficient. Wifi, TV, heat, worked great. My wife and I appreciated having more room and a more 'at home' feel for a much lower cost than a hotel. In addition, the neighborhood was safe and great for walking to local restaurants, a Rite Aid, food market ... Having the subway station a block and 1/2 away made getting into Manhattan a breeze.
One big surprise was how quiet the neighborhood is. The small amount of street noise and people all quiet down by 9 or 10 PM.
Gladys and Bob were helpful with tips on where to eat and best subway lines into the city. They left us some bananas, milk and bottled water prior to our arrival and then left some cookies and mixed nuts during our stay.
For our first AirBNB stay a great experience.
This is our first stay in the house of Gladys & Bob and we hope come back as soon as possible. They are very nice. The house is very comfortable and very close to Manhattan and of the subway. *HIGHLY RECOMMEND*!!!!!
