The Space

Hawaii House of Peace is your home away from home in the Big Island.

Interaction with Guests

Auntie Miki lives upstairs in the studio with a separate entrance. You will have your own private home all to yourself unless you ask Auntie to help you with anything, or if you like, you can arrange with us before you arrive for her to make breakfasts for you for an additional charge.

The Neighborhood

Hawaiian Shores is a lovely, safe, and very quiet and peaceful neighborhood. It is a few blocks from a park on the ocean, and about 15 minutes from a great local surfing spot, lava heated natural pool (with fish!), tide pools, and the quaint town of Pahoa.

  • We had such a comfortable stay here! Everything we could have possibly needed was already here and we enjoyed our visit.

  • Thank you Auntie Miki for the wonderful stay. The house is clean, spacious, and well equipped in a very peaceful neighborhood. We were serenaded by frogs and birds during the night. Even with all the rain, the home was dry and cozy. We made use of the snorkel gear, boogie boards, and beach toys at the house. The location is convenient to Long's Drugs, Malama grocery store and only 15 mins away from snorkeling, 30 mins away from Volcano National Park, 30 mins way from Hilo or 1.45 hrs away from the white sand beaches south of Kohala or Kailua-Kona. We loved the sweet little town of Puna especially Puna Java coffee shop, Ning's Thai Food, and the little Sunday morning farmer's market in Puna.

  • House of Peace was indeed the healing place for our family. We really enjoyed our staying, and once again thank Auntie for her great hospitality, and Jason and Rose for giving us opportunity to stay at their house. Summary: Great experience, nice host, perfect house.
3 Rooms were clean, nice and cozy, kitchen was fully equipped and balcony that connected to 2 bedrooms were wonderful.
Auntie provided anything that we needed and thanks to her news about eruption in volcano park, I could have a chance to see amazing view with my own eyes. She lives upstairs, so you can have perfect privacy. Neighborhood was peaceful and quite, and you don't even have to lock the door. Location is perfect for our family's trip plan(50 minutes drive to Volcano national park, 30 minutes drive to Kalapana village where you can do some adventure tour for watching and poking! real lava, 30 minutes to Hilo and airport, 30 minutes to Kapoho tide pools where you can do amazing snorkeling activity, 30 minutes to Ahalanui park where you can enjoy heated-pool. These are must-do-activities and I guarantee that you won't regret at all). Once again Mahalo, and hope to see you again.

Aloha! The Brents family love (website hidden). Augustine said "the world is a book, of which those who have not traveled have read only the first page." We agree! We love living overseas in China, traveling to the Hawaiian homeland, and anywhere else we can afford to go on a teacher's salary! But the Hawaii House of Peace is a two for one special: our sweet Auntie Miki, the Mother Teresa of the Big Island, is hosting our guests (she lives in the upstairs separate studio). Mahalo!
