We absolutely loved staying with Carol and Doc. They have thought about everything, the RV was fantastic and incredibly well equipped. There are fantastic hikes around the property, which truly is special, nestled in a national park, miles from anywhere. The hammocks, fire pit are a must, so bring firewood. There is a property nearby, but Jonathan who lived there was great and we really did feel secluded. Carol and Doc are sharing this wonderful part of the world with us and couldn't recommend it more. We'll most certainly be back.
Just an incredible experience. Really unique location and accommodations. Carol and Doc were welcoming and friendly. And the RV is stocked with everything you could possibly need. If you need to unplug from the matrix (as I definitely did!) this is the place to do it!
I escaped to Carol's and Doc's, for serenity and harmony. Their property was magical. I loved that it was remote and a place where my dog and I could just recharge. We were greeted by the lovely couple themselves- Carol carefully gave me a grand tour and the lay of the land. Both her and Doc are tendered hearted and eager to please. I think though the best part- was finding a spot that was beyond dog friendly, which I truly appreciated. Our days included: swims in the watering holes, hikes, chasing birds, long naps in the hammock, and a camp fire to end the day. I couldn't get enough of the fresh air, the views, and the hummingbird tree. We just melted into the scenery. I never wanted to leave the property.
I cooked very simply, but the little kitchen will meet all your needs and more. I loved making my coffee and then heading outside to enjoy the sunrise. Being a single female- I also think its important to share that I felt completely safe. Knowing that Carol and Doc were a call away and that the pack of pups had the place under surveillance- never made me question my safety, allowing me to truly be in the moment and just enjoy nature. Thank you for a lovely stay! 'Til next time.
When my wife and I were looking for a romantic, unique getaway, we stopped at Carol's profile based on the pictures. But the experience, was so much more. Carol immediately began to establish friendly rapport by responding to our inquiry in a timely manner and providing us with a detailed map/explanation of how to get to her location. By this, we were well equipped and knew what to expect. When we arrived, she greeted us, just as she said, along with her amazing "host dogs" and gave us a detailed tour of the RV and area including on site hikes (which a couple of the host dogs eventually guided us on a couple of days later) and features of the RV. The RV was beautiful, well equipped and very clean... which made us feel right at home and carefree. Carol's personal attention to detail showed through the way the RV was equipped with comforting supplies ranging from coffee... to bug repellent... to sticks to roast marshmallows on. But it didn't stop there. Even the hammock was supplied with it's own set of pillows and blankets. We woke up to unforgettable secluded sunrises and witnessed the starriest of nights. We were able to reflect in a peaceful and quiet environment. All while feeling safe amongst the wilderness, knowing Carol was an intercom call way and the property was protected by the trusty "host dogs". The best thing about the Remote Mountain Wilderness Retreat was it's versatility to accommodate a camper with no experience, like ourselves... to a seasoned nature enthusiast. Carol's extraordinary ability to host in a non intrusive, but completely thorough way, allows guests to make their very own unique experience. For us, it is something we will never forget. We will definitely be back!
Carol was a wonderful hostess and our weekend could not have gone any better! She and Doc were very responsive to our questions, and the RV was well-appointed with everything we needed for our getaway from the rat race of Los Angeles. Highly recommended for anyone looking to truly get away from it all!
We had a lovely, peaceful stay at the 'Remote Mountain Wilderness Retreat.' It was everything anyone needs and more on a getaway! Although removed from the rest of Ojai, tucked up underneath the mountains, it was easy to find and just a 20 minute or so drive from the town. The views from the property are spectacular!
Carol and Doc came up, along with their happy pups, to meet/welcome us and acquaint us with our surroundings. They were easy to get a hold of with questions the rest of the trip via the intercom in the trailer.
The RV was so cozy and had everything we needed (and more)! We spent most of our time around the fire, winds permitting, or in the double hammock gazing out at the mountains. When the rain started coming down on the second evening of our trip we were cozy and warm inside, snuggled up watching the movies Carol and Doc were kind enough to leave for us.
The property is also close to hiking and the gorgeous scenery of Los Padres National Forest, we drove further up highway 33 and were greeted with even more amazing views and fresh, crisp mountain air.
We can't wait to return. :-)
We had a blast as usual on our third visit! So relaxing and peaceful. Every time we come, Carol has added a couple touches to make the place even more comfortable and functional.
