VERY central Georgian townhouse

House - Private room · Camden Row, Dublin, Dublin, Ireland

This beautiful and historic house is 10 minutes walk from the vast majority of Dublin's major tourist attractions. Whatever your interests and needs are, you're perfectly positioned to see the entire city. Enjoy a comfortable bed, an exquisite drawing room, and a cosy garden.

The Space

Built in 1838 and recently refurbished with four bedrooms and two bathrooms, our home is located in the heart of Dublin, approximately a ten minute walk to the City centre (Grafton street). We have easy access to excellent public transport. Our family of four would love to welcome you to Dublin and do all we can to help you to experience one of Europe’s most historic and exciting cities.

Guests are welcome to make full use of the house and meals can be offered for a modest fee. Alternatively there are loads of good quality and good value restaurants in the area. We would be around to recommend the best sights, the best places to go for food, drinks, and entertainment. Furthermore, with an Irish historian living in the house, anyone interested is welcome to discuss the finer points of Irish history with one of its leading writers.

Your room is part of the original structure and at the back of the house so no noise comes in from the street. There are antique shutters to keep the light out and heat in and we are happy to provide hot water bottles, more blankets, or anything else which is necessary on request. The fireplace in the room is currently not functional but there is a wood-burning stove downstairs and an operational fireplace upstairs which guests are welcome to use too.

Guest Access

Guests will be able to come and go as they please. They are welcome to relax in the upstairs drawing room, the garden at the back, the kitchen, and the dining room at their leisure. Guests are welcome to make tea, coffee, and snacks in the kitchen (although we would request that you do not cook). Whenever possible guests will have their own bathroom. There is a separate bathroom for family use.

The Neighborhood

The area in which we live is really vibrant with great cafés, restaurants, pubs, and shopping right on our doorstep. We are also close to Dublin’s leading music venues, Whelans, which holds great concerts throughout the year and with Temple Bar (which has traditional Irish music every night) only about 15 minutes away, you’ll never be at a loss for what to do. If you’d prefer theatre or classical music, the national concert hall along with the Abbey and Gate theatres are within walking distance and as far as culture goes we've got the Chester Beatty, Dublin Castle, the National Library, Gallery and Museum as well as St Stephen's Green only about ten minutes walk away.

Getting around

There is great public transport from anyone coming from far afield or looking to visit the more out-of-the-way tourist attractions: we are 3 minutes walk from the LUAS tramline, 2 minutes from the nearest bus stop, 10 minutes from the nearest airport shuttle bus stop (Trinity College/Dawson Street), and there is no time of the day or night when a Dublin taxi is more than 5 minutes away from us. If you want to see Dublin by bicycle (an experience which we would highly recommend), there are 3 bike shops and easy access to the Dublin rent-a-bike scheme. If you’d rather drive, Hertz rent-a-car is within walking distance and the new Dublin rent-a-car scheme (GoCar) has a pick-up point a block away.

Other Things to Note

On occasion another room in the house will be rented out in addition to your room, if you would like to know whether that room would be rented out or not during your stay, please enquire.

  • Jamie was the greatest host. The house is full of character with a private enclosed garden where you can enjoy your morning coffee. Jamie was very helpful in answering questions about what to see, where to eat, etc. and the bedroom is a perfect quiet respite from the bustle of Dublin. The location is ideal for walking to all the prime tourist sites.

  • I was fortunate to meet Jamie, his mum Jane, his brother Richard, and Simon during my stay. I can wholeheartedly say that my experience with them will be the golden standard to which I hold future airbnb bookings. The house is walking distance from all the sights, in a great location with access to a number of restaurants and pubs literally around the corner. It is spacious and clean with a warm feel to it, and you have access to loads of fresh linens if you want. Everything from questions pertaining to old Celtic history, current affairs, planning my day trips, or just sharing dinner, and more - I've never felt more at home. I actually found myself looking forward to when Jane or Simon would get back from uni! My week in Dublin flew by with this amazing set of people, and I will definitely be staying here again in the (website hidden) Jamie is quite the chef, if you're lucky and he's home - see if you can get him to cook for you, haha!

  • We enjoyed our stay at Jamie's house very much. The room was perfect, indeed it was one of the most comfortable bed's we ever slept in! We enjoyed looking out the window in the morning watching the robin bring food to its chicks in the hedge. We had access to the kitchen, where we were able to prepare our breakfast and to the family's bathroom - where it took a little time to get the shower to mix properly. The location is very good, it is a 10 minute walk from Christchurch cathedral, and not so far to the Trinity College area. There are also some good pubs and restaurants nearby, but the house itself is very quite. We were there in April, so it was not cold, but I could imagine that being an old house, the room could get a little chilly in winter.

  • Jamie was a very charming host and the room was lovely. The house is very conveniently located close to the centre of town providing access to the many cafes and restaurants.

They had the heating turned off but there were both an oil heater and an electric blanket in my room and the kitchen, where I had enjoyable chats with Jamie and the other guests, was pleasantly warm thanks to the Aga.

I enjoyed my stay so much I would have liked to stay another week but I was too late: my room had already been rented to someone else.

  • Jamie is very nice and friendly and he made my stay a very pleasant one. He has a lovely house and had everything that you need for your stay, including an amazing heated blanket! House is not in the center of it all, aka Temple Bar, but it's a 15 min walk of that main area plus there are tons of pubs around (website hidden) Stephen's Green is only a 5-min walk.
Would definitely recommend staying with Jamie and I'll defo will on my next visit to Dublin!

  • We stayed with Jamie for a one night layover in Dublin. Nice discussion with him on some classical subjects, for which he's a scholar. Accommodations were fine in his family's historic home. An overall interesting stay in the heart of Dublin.

  • I only stayed one night but enjoyed Jamie's historic, spacious townhouse filled with charming details and interesting architectural features. The electric heater on the mattress is a welcome surprise for those cold nights.

  • Jamie and Simon were SO helpful! Simon jumped and drove my car to his place and took time to help me park the car. The house is all you'd ever need- very comfortable bed, wifi, clean bathroom. It is a medium walk to the main areas- maybe 10-15 minutes. but it would be difficult to get any closer. I would say here again!
