About This Listing
This room hosts an antique red, metal-framed bed, but can fit a bunk-bed. It has a tall bookcase, a side-table, a dresser, lamp and clock. Decorated to appeal to Dreamspark guests, but artwork can be rotated to fit any genre. Perfect for long-distance travelers staying overnight.
What makes this room unique is my intentions to decorate it to fit the consumer. Can fit one twin, two twins snuggly, or in a pinch, one double. The base colors are blue and white, but the rest is up to you! Currently the bed-coverings, pillows, framed artwork, curtains and accoutrements are "baseball." They could easily become "football" or "beach" by changing the pictures and accessories. Help me design a space that is perfectly YOU and helps you enjoy your stay in upstate! I am also big into locally sourced, so likely you'll be able to "meet your meal."
The entire house. Roku for TV, wifi, computer if you're respectful, games, bathroom, laundry, stove, coffee pot, drinks, fridge (ok, within reason!) I can provide meals at whatever level needed: snacks, continental or full breakfast, dinner, grill, and will provide a price list for all at your request.
Interaction with Guests
As little or much as you'd like. I can entertain you in my home, or I can retire to my Studio above the barn, only to be seen when called.
Country setting, corner store within walking distance, creek, cows, some kids, mostly quiet.
Smoking outside, please.
This is the Baseball room. It has since been redesigned. I will post pix when I find my camera!! This is one single bed configuration.
This was our first airbnb experience. We needed a place to stay overnight so we could go see our daughter play field hockey at the College of Oneonta, and most of the hotels in Oneonta were booked. Although it was a bit of a drive, it was easy enough to find, even in the dark. From the very first communication, Melissa was very accommodating and eager to make our stay enjoyable. When we first booked our room, all she had available was the baseball room, which would have been fine, but during one of our early communications I asked if she had a larger room. When the larger room was finished with alterations, she contacted me to see if we were still interested in switching, which we did. Melissa was very welcoming, and didn’t make us feel as though our evening arrival was an imposition. She was also very sociable and an easy conversationalist.
This airbnb is an older home, so the stairs are narrow and a little steep, and the floors aren’t always level, but, by the décor and her demeanor, you can tell that Melissa is dedicated to making her airbnb guests feel very welcome. Our stay was short, as we had to leave early the next morning, but I would have loved to have been able to sit by the fire pit and see the chickens.
As one who has allergies, I would be remiss if I didn’t remind people that, if you have allergies, remember that this is an older home in the country and you will need your allergy meds.
Staying with Melissa was like staying at a friends home, she made it comfortable. The house is nestled in the Mountain only 20 minutes away from Cooperstown. We had great conversation and she also came down to Dreams Park to watch my daughter and another guests Son play baseball. Yes, I would stay with her again. Kimberly Sammons
I had a very fun evening at Melissa's rural farm country abode. After two nights in Philly, driving over to her place after a day at the Baseball Hall of Fame....was more to my country liking. Peaceful and quiet, sitting around the fire pit out back. Down to earth hostess, made it a pleasant and relaxing visit. If this sounds like something out of the norm for ya, where you will for sure share a good laugh....and away from the city, look up and see how clear you can see the stars......give it a try.
This was my first airbnb experience. I needed a place to stay after visiting the Baseball Hall of Fame. It was a bit of a drive from Cooperstown, but Melissa had warned me! Still was easy to find, and Melissa was very welcoming. In fact, all communications were prompt and friendly. Melissa is an easy conversationalist, which made me feel right at home. The farmhouse was a bit on rustic side, but still remarkably pleasant and inviting for my short stay. My twin bed was comfortable, though it was a short hike down the stairs and around the corner to get to the bathroom. Breakfast was delicious. Melissa aims to please and is receptive to all suggestions and requests. She really does "open her house" to you. I enjoyed my stay.
I stumbled upon Melissa's listing while looking for a place to stay after a concert in Cooperstown, NY. This was my first time ever using airbnb, so I wasn't quite sure what to expect. After booking the room, Melissa contacted me to coordinate on laying out the room, arrival times, shower times, etc. Excellent communication! The property itself is absolutely gorgeous. I'd never stayed in that part of NY before, and I found myself enjoying the peace and quiet of nature. Melissa is an excellent host, very talkative and friendly. I enjoyed our conversations which felt as natural as if I were talking to an old friend. Melissa is also very well prepared for guests. My brother and I had brought bath towels and an extra blanket, but our host had more than plenty already out for us! I would definitely recommend this house to anyone visiting the Cooperstown area, and I would definitely come back again
Thank You Andres! You were a pleasure to have in the short time you were at The House on High Street. (Welcoming and conversational as well.) I enjoyed out chats. You bring up a good point: the area. I live here, so I forget how absolutely beautiful it is! I forget what a busy, bustling city life is like! Maybe I should vaca in NYC!!
If you ever just need to "get away from it all," please visit again. A walk down the road (amazing views of rolling hills) will result in you being a curiosity for 2 herds of cows, a hop in the creek will refresh your spirit, and soak in the kiddy pool with a beverage, will solve all your ills! (the Otesaga Golf course has been said to be the most beautiful aficionado's have ever experienced) Coffee on the deck in the morning (more fresh chicken eggs from the girls!), a good grilled meal, & relaxing at the fire pit at night will set everything right.
You could not ask for a better host. Mellisa is a bright interesting woman. It's a long story how it happened but it was our five week old grandson's first night away from his parents. Mellisa was open to our last minute need to bring tiny Eli with us She stepped in and was a big help with the baby.
She is a talented creative person and that shows in her home. We share interests and we were happy to exchange ideas. Her skills in the kitchen provided a hearty breakfast before we headed out for a long and busy day. A stay at her home was so much more than an overnight B&B, it was a fulfilling experience.

About the Host, Melissa
Kids are gone & I'm left in a big house in the country. Won't you share it with me? Rolling fields, creek down the street, central to numerous venues. The Baseball Hall of Fame, Cooperstown Dreamspark & the Cooperstown All-Star Village, Glimmerglass Opera, Brewery Ommegang & their concert series as well as the Foothills Performing Arts center. The Unadilla Motocross racetrack, is down the road, and the Fly Creek Cider Mill, Butternuts Brewery & the Beverage Trail. Relaxing country setting, with a non-traditional decor. I love cooking & would love to make you a meal or breakfast made from my own chickens eggs! Wi-Fi & cell service, so you can stay I touch if you need to. Come hop in the creek! You won't regret it! I can get by with Spanish& even remember most of my finger-spelling letters!
