About this listing
This cozy room hosts an antique red, metal-framed bed, but can fit a 2nd twin. Perfect for long-distance travelers or Dreamspark/CASV parents. WIFI and Verizon service.
What makes this room unique is my intentions to decorate it to fit the consumer. Can fit one twin, two twins snuggly, or in a pinch, one double. The base colors are blue and white, but the rest is up to you! Currently the bed-coverings, pillows, framed artwork, curtains and accoutrements are "baseball." They could easily become "football" or "beach" by changing the pictures and accessories. Help me design a space that is perfectly YOU and helps you enjoy your stay in upstate! I am also big into locally sourced, so likely you'll be able to "meet your meal."
The entire house. Roku for TV, wifi, computer if you're respectful, games, bathroom, laundry, stove, coffee pot, drinks, fridge (ok, within reason!) I can provide meals at whatever level needed: snacks, continental or full breakfast, dinner, grill, and will provide a price list for all at your request.
Interaction with Guests
As little or much as you'd like. I can entertain you in my home, or I can retire to my Studio above the barn, only to be seen when called.
Country setting, corner store within walking distance, creek, cows, some kids, mostly quiet. No buses.
Other Things to Note
WIFI, but only Verizon service via booster.
Country roads, PRINT your directions TO and FROM venue. Getting lost in the dark is common. Spotty service throughout county, GPS will drop out.
I leave doors open for breeze in summer, using a/c minimally. Flying things are common.
Bathroom IS shared. Has not been a problem yet, even with a full house.
This is my home, which I open to you. It is not perfect. It is not a hotel.
Smoking outside, please. NO DRUGS.
I go out of my way to make each guest stay as comfortable as possible. Please DO NOT hesitate to contact me if your pillow is not to your liking, I have a ton and can find you the type you like easily.
This is the Baseball room. It has since been redesigned. I will post pix when I find my camera!! This is one single bed configuration.
Our host, Melissa, was awesome! As a planner myself, I appreciated Mel's frequent communications about what to expect, not to forget my umbrella, spotty cell phone coverage around the area (Mel has Wi-Fi and a Verizon booster so no major issues), intros to the other 7 people staying in the house, etc. Mel even arranged a potluck BBQ on Saturday night even though she had to work. It was nice getting to know the other guests. This was my first time to the Hall of Fame in Cooperstown (along with my husband) so really just need a place to sleep and this fit the bill. I heard Melissa is a fabulous cook and I'm sorry I missed her breakfast because I was overly eager to be the first in line for the HoF museum the following morning.
Thanks Gloria! I try to make the stays good ones. The area is problematic technology wise, and I don't want people to end up disappointed about things I cannot control. Soo glad you got there early, we definitely got better seats arriving 3 hours early, than we did last year only getting there an hour early. Your note is now posted on the chalkboard, thanks for the sweet comments.
Melissa was a great host! This was my first AirBnB experience as a guest (we host a room at my current residence) and it was great. I immediately felt comfortable, safe and welcome by Melissa. She had some great recommendations for restaurants, although I ended up just grabbing some things from the store and we made a dinner and ate together on her porch. It was the perfect little getaway from my hectic chef life. If I return to the area and needed a place to stay again, I would definitely stay with Melissa.
The room itself is great, it's exactly as advertised and I had no problems with the accommodations or privacy.
The hostess could not have been more hospitable. I stayed there for two nights; during the first one her house was crammed full of guests who had come from various places to attend a music event in Cooperstown (about 20 miles away). She really went out of the way to make them, and me, feel at home--and the place IS her home. She knew that most of the guests were interested in a bonfire in her backyard firepit, and she spent a LOT of time making it happen (the wood was soggy). Then the next morning she made nice breakfasts for everyone.
She's willing to engage in as much or little conversation as a guest wants. She made me feel very welcome; She also provided excellent directions for me on getting to Cooperstown (the purpose of my trip was to visit the Baseball Hall of Fame). When I left, she gave me equally excellent guidance on which backroads to use for the next leg of my trip.
The rooms and furnishings are not modern or fancy; they're what you might expect in an old farmhouse. But my bed was comfortable and I was perfectly satisfied.
Bottom line: highly recommended, as long as you're not expecting anything fancy. This was my very first time to use Airbnb, and it won't be the last.
Timothy, thanks for such a wonderful review! Yes, I'm not hotel quality--I live here. But, "Mi casa es su casa" always. Maybe, with enough support, this little farmhouse in the country can one day be a bit more modern. (although, for the sticks, wireless internet and a cell booster are pretty "wired!") Thank you for choosing me! I truly enjoy getting to know various people from all walks of life, and hearing their stories. While letting strangers into your home is a bit awkward for both, I do love helping people make experiences, not just spend money. Hope your end trip went well! You are welcome any time.
Melissa was great, and we had a really nice stay. Thanks Melissa!
This was our first airbnb experience. We needed a place to stay overnight so we could go see our daughter play field hockey at the College of Oneonta, and most of the hotels in Oneonta were booked. Although it was a bit of a drive, it was easy enough to find, even in the dark. From the very first communication, Melissa was very accommodating and eager to make our stay enjoyable. When we first booked our room, all she had available was the baseball room, which would have been fine, but during one of our early communications I asked if she had a larger room. When the larger room was finished with alterations, she contacted me to see if we were still interested in switching, which we did. Melissa was very welcoming, and didn’t make us feel as though our evening arrival was an imposition. She was also very sociable and an easy conversationalist.
This airbnb is an older home, so the stairs are narrow and a little steep, and the floors aren’t always level, but, by the décor and her demeanor, you can tell that Melissa is dedicated to making her airbnb guests feel very welcome. Our stay was short, as we had to leave early the next morning, but I would have loved to have been able to sit by the fire pit and see the chickens.
As one who has allergies, I would be remiss if I didn’t remind people that, if you have allergies, remember that this is an older home in the country and you will need your allergy meds.
Staying with Melissa was like staying at a friends home, she made it comfortable. The house is nestled in the Mountain only 20 minutes away from Cooperstown. We had great conversation and she also came down to Dreams Park to watch my daughter and another guests Son play baseball. Yes, I would stay with her again. Kimberly Sammons
I had a very fun evening at Melissa's rural farm country abode. After two nights in Philly, driving over to her place after a day at the Baseball Hall of Fame....was more to my country liking. Peaceful and quiet, sitting around the fire pit out back. Down to earth hostess, made it a pleasant and relaxing visit. If this sounds like something out of the norm for ya, where you will for sure share a good laugh....and away from the city, look up and see how clear you can see the stars......give it a try.

About the Host, Melissa
Kids are gone & I'm left in a big house in the country. Won't you share it with me? Rolling fields, creek down the street, central to numerous venues. The Baseball Hall of Fame, Cooperstown Dreamspark & the Cooperstown All-Star Village, Glimmerglass Opera, Brewery Ommegang & their concert series as well as the Foothills Performing Arts center. The Unadilla Motocross racetrack, is down the road, and the Fly Creek Cider Mill, Butternuts Brewery & the Beverage Trail. Relaxing country setting, with a non-traditional decor. I love cooking & would love to make you a meal or breakfast made from my own chickens eggs! Wi-Fi & cell service, so you can stay I touch if you need to. Come hop in the creek! You won't regret it! I can get by with some Spanish & even remember most of my finger-spelling letters!
