The neighborhood is a very quiet and spread out scenic mountain subdivision. The chalet is in a cul-de-sac and the lot is large and full of old growth trees. There's a hiking trail that runs behind the row of houses on our street for a leisurely afternoon stroll on the side of a mountain.

Just what my wife and I needed. A lovely getaway from noise and business. And, the highs were only in the 80s while it was 100 in the lowlands. I recommend stopping in Marion or Burnsville (actually 17 miles west of the cabin) for some staple groceries. You definitely want the option of just staying in versus driving back out for food. And, Ron means it when he says print his detailed directions before driving there. Most cell phones will not work well or at all (which I actually enjoyed). "Old school" GPS devices should work.
Just returned from this beautiful home. The chalet is private, peaceful, and well-furnished. It was very comfortable and quiet--a perfect place for a relaxing getaway. You will want to spend most of your time out on the deck--from coffee to grilling dinner to a glass of wine in the evening. But if you need to get out, Roaring Fork Falls, Mt. Mitchell, and Carolina Hemlocks are close-by for hiking. Highly recommend Teo's at Mt. Mitchell Golf Course for dinner--ask for a table out on the patio. I didn't want to leave--Thanks, Ron!
Great stay at the chalet! On arrival the place is clean, stocked, and looks just like the pictures. Cozy decorations and comfy beds made this house a nice place to come back to after a long day. And the view from the deck is great! The house was easy to find, easy to drive up to even in my puny car, and close to nearby trails, especially the waterfalls! Ron also just replaced his old combo grill with a new infrared, electric grill so there's no need to buy propane/charcoal if you want to grill mountainside! The surround sound setup that extends to the deck was great for gathering with friends! The downside my group found was that the WiFi did not work at night?!
Ron let us check in early as there was no one renting before us, which was nice. The cabin was clean and cozy and remote. Plenty of pillows, sheets, etc. His directions made it his home easy to find. There were practically no neighbors home, which was fine with us because it was even quieter. Even if they were home, the houses are a good distance from each other, so you have total privacy anyway. We ate at Smokey Ques and The Country Dinner for breaksfast. Bother amazing. The lighting bowling alley/ pool hall made for good entertainment. Otherwise, we hiked the entire time and it was awesome! Thanks Ron for a great stay!
Our stay at the chalet was so relaxing. It had snowed pretty heavily the week before our stay and it took a little while for the house to warm up, but the king size bed was the most comfortable bed I've ever slept in! The house was very clean and comfortable, and we had everything we needed for a nice weekend away. Since it was cold we didn't venture out much, but had plenty of time for board games, reading and watching movies. We hope to come back soon!
We couldn't have hoped for better accommodation. The host provided thorough instruction for finding and accessing the chalet, and amenities (e. g. soap, cookware) that simplified our preparation for the trip. The space was clean, the furnishing was rustic and comfortable, and we absolutely adored the loft and its king bed. We had the great fortune of ideal weather, and spent much of our stay soaking in the fall foliage from the deck, which was furnished and featured a breathtaking view. We definitely will consider this chalet for any future excursion we might take on Mount Mitchell.
