Utrecht is a great city and will surely give you a pleasant stay. Walking through the old city, climbing the 'Domtoren' or visiting musea.
Within 10 minutes walking you'll reach Utrecht central station. Amsterdam is only one stop by train and The Hague and Rotterdam will take about 40 minutes.
I'd be happy to answer all your questions and help you find the places you love.
Utrecht is number 6 in Lonely Planet's top 10 of the world's unsung places: "Perhaps it’s the lure of Amsterdam that leads people to forget Utrecht. Whatever the reason, this graceful city is bizarrely under-visited. Its old town is encircled by a medieval canal, and you can hop on a boat tour to visit the city’s bustling, vibrant wharves. Built to connect the canalside with Utrecht’s impressive townhouses, today these unique spaces are filled with bohemian cafes, shops, restaurants and bars."
Wifi is included.
The kitchen is shared with two very friendly neighbours. The bathroom is shared as well. The room is all yours ofcourse. Next to that, there is a television, a vinyl turntable and a nice soundsystem you can use.
Other Things to Note
Times for checking in and out are flexible.
Smoking inside the house isn't allowed. You'll be sharing some facilities, so keep it neat and clean please!
Die Unterkunft sah etwas chaotischer aus als auf dem Foto, aber dafür war die Lage wirklich zentral :)
My stay at Rik's place was fantastic and I couldn't think of a better place to stay for a weekend in Utrecht. I didn't get to meet Rik as he was away for the weekend, but he left me the contact details of his flatmates and friends in town and he was very helpful and thoughtful and made sure that everything was arranged and that the handover of the keys went as smoothly as possible. I got to have a few beers with Rik's friends the day after and they took me out and showed me how to have fun Dutch style - it absolutely made my weekend.
As far as the apartment goes, it is as great as everyone else says it is - all facilities are as listed, it's lovely and spacious and it is conveniently located right over the 11th-century Oudegracht, the canal which runs right through the centre of the city. It's a perfect base for exploring and Rik and his friends were very helpful in giving recommendations for places to go and things to see and do in Utrecht. Rik's flatmates are also very accommodating and friendly. Highly recommended!
Rik's apartment was amazing! I did not get to meet Rik, as he was away, but he made sure everything was arranged, and Bart, Floris, Claudia and Nina were all extremely welcoming and helpful, and I really enjoyed my stay. The apartment is very spacious and beautiful and overlooks the oudegracht, perfect for exploring Utrecht. I was able to use the kitchen to cook a meal and chat with Bart and Floris. I loved Utrecht, and highly recommend Rik's place!
De kamer voldeed prima aan de beschrijving; Rik had de overdracht van de sleutel goed geregeld.
The room of Rik is located perfectly in the middle of Utrecht. We had a great weekend there. Thank you Rik!
It really doesn’t get any better than a room a couple of hundred yards from the Dom Tower, overlooking the Oude Gracht (a central canal lined with the most amazing, old houses and with lots of quirky little shops, restaurants and watering holes along the road and in the old cellars at water level). I totally enjoyed my stay. The room itself is spacious and bright, with a large, comfortable double bed – exactly as in the picture. I would say (as is to be expected in a vibrant student city) it’s not always quiet during the night, so if you’re bothered by people walking and talking outside (actually quite a friendly, soothing sound!), bring your ear plugs. I now realise, reading back some of the previous reviews, that the bottle of wine left on the side was meant for me. I hadn’t realised but saw it there, so thanks all the same, Rik. :-) I didn’t actually get to meet Rik himself as he was in another amazing place, San Francisco (how can one guy get all the luck!) but he was available by email to put me in touch with his friend, who rushed over to check me in as I arrived a little early. I shared the apartment (not the room, of course, to which I had a private key) with a couple who were very friendly and helpful, and interesting to talk to. I would echo one previous reviewer – this is real, authentic Utrecht living in the kind of huge, old, shabby chic canal house young professionals / PhD students rent in Utrecht. Don’t expect hotel like gloss - this is basic living. But then – who wants gloss when you’ve got a place like this to stay in! I will definitely try to book this place again when I come back next year!
Rik's home was in a perfect location in such a grat town. Although we did not meet Rik as he was out of town, his roommate met us to take us to their place. The room and home were ideal for our needs. Rik even left us with goodies for our stay. I would certainly recommend his room to anyone!
