About this listing
Gingerhill Farm is located on five acres of organic orchards and gardens nestled just above famous Kealakekua Bay. We offer serenity and escape mere minutes away from local restaurants and shops. Yoga, Meditation and Farming are offered Mon-Fri.
Located in the main house, the Sunset Suite is a large room with private bath. It has a Queen and Twin bed. Step onto the back patio and enjoy a panoramic view of the entire farm.
Mon-Fri at 6am is meditation practice. All guests are invited. Guests can sign up for a yoga class at 11am.
Take a stroll through our gardens and then marvel at the sunset from one of various scenic decks. Hike down to Kealakekua Bay and swim with the Dolphins. Gingerhill Farm offers an exotic escape from the hustle and bustle of 21st century living.
Interaction with Guests
Guests can be independent or a part of our community as they wish. They can choose to "opt in" to our Yoga Farm Program and Meals as well when available.
South Kona's "Greenbelt," has long been known for farming, especially coffee. Lush growth and farms, cute stores, antiques and cafes dot the road down to Historic Kealakekua Bay where Captain Cook once "discovered" Hawaii and where tourists now swim with the Dolphins.
The Big Island still offers small town, Mom-and- Pop-store charm. We have a very slow bus system and not much else. Hitch-hiking is popular and easy.

This is a very special off-the-beaten-track property with delightful views, especially the sunset over the ocean. Iris and Zach are highly committed to their vision of sustainability and were very accommodating. If you're a resort person this probably isn't for you, but we had a nice relaxing stay.
You are welcome to participate as much or as little as you like in the farm's activities.
The place is magical and has the most incredible view. Iris and Zack were wonderful hosts, and I highly recommend their farm as a non-traditional place to stay on the island. Hot tub under the stars is amazing, as is the outdoor shower and grounds. The room is not luxurious, but comfortable and clean. You have a millionaires view of the water.
I booked 3 nights. It was not easy to find the place. The GPS got close, but I could not find the house. It was 4 pm. I called numerous times over 3 hours, nobody answered. With the help from a restourant and a hostel close by, I finally find the place. The same day Zack mailed me his cell phone number, but I had no access to the internet.
The pictures look really great and the room, the sunset suite, was as it is on the pictures, but many years ago. The room was really not clean. At the sealing and at the wall, there are so many spots from killed insects. According to Zack, that is way it is tropical climate. In the bathroom there where even more of this dots. The curtain and the windows have bin cleaned a long time ago. The sliding doors can’t be really closed and the screens in front of the doors had holes like the size of a fist. Zack gave me a non-toxic bug repellant. In my opinion, everything is well used and needed to be replaced or renovated. The internet did not work in the room. Zack offered to used his computer in his office. I did not know that are that many coqui frogs there and how loud they can be, ca, 70 dA, right in front of your room.
For me it was too much and I left the next day. Zack reimbursed me without any problem.
I would not go back.
I waited for a call from Kilian who said he would arrive at 4pm after doing some sight seeing. I had emailed him my cell phone which is on the sight as well and waited for him. Qceanic Warner, our cable and phone provider was down that day so we never received his phone call to the landline. He showed up at 7pm frustrated. The photos are recent, this year, and he is the first guest we have ever had that wasn't overjoyed by the room with its breathtaking views and lush surrounding gardens. I had vacuumed that day and mopped the bathroom, shower and sink. He immediately complained about the coqui frogs, (an unpleasant reality here on the Big Island though they are still somewhat mild on this side) and a recent rip in the screen door which closes perfectly.
I brought him some organic mosquito coils and a two ipods full of music with a sound system to quiet the chirping frogs. My wife made him some fresh starfruit/lilikoi juice and I offered him my mother's office suite and her computer for his internet needs which he gladly accepted and thought i had done everything possible to accomodate him. In the morning when i went in to invite him to morning meditation, he complained that the toilet didnt work. I went in and flushed it without any diificulty at which point he complained,"well, it DIDN"T work." He then asked for his money back pointing to the ceiling and some supposed squashed mosquitos there which I couldn't see. My wife and I were very confused because guests are usually so pleased by our accommodations and I felt that I had been an incredibly generous host. I promptly refunded him $240 in cash taking a loss on tax and Airbnb service charges. My suggestion: don't host Kilian unless you want to work herd for a demanding and unappreciative guest.
This place made our Hawaiian trip unforgettable. We felt immediately home in the little hideaway - people, we share common sense of life with. nature determines your daily life. delicious organic fruits & vegetables growing right in front of your porch. Best location to get lost in Big Islands amazing vegetation and discover the beauty of the Kona coast.
WE HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS PLACE!
Thank you Zach& Iris for beeing so open and welcoming!
Hope to see you guys soon and can support you next time in the garden.
I came to Ginger Hill with a desire to be in nature, relax and renew. I got this and more from Mayumi, Iris & Zach and the rest of the Ginger Hill family. My stay was the perfect combination of community and privacy. The garden and farm are beautiful and fascinating, particularly if you’re interested in sustainability.
Be sure to take in the sunset from the deck or gardens. They’re simple incredible!
Absolutely beautiful home and grounds with an awesome outdoor shower and an incredible ocean view. Close and convenient to everything in the Captain Cook area -- a short day trip to the black sand beach, the green sand beach or snorkeling in Kealakekua Bay.
The hosts were kind and friendly -- we had a great chat and I joined them for their morning meditation. We had fresh papayas and green juice for breakfast and they shared some of their favorite beaches to go to. Highly recommend!
