The space

Thank you for your interest in staying at my place. Since I started hosting in 2011 I have received many kind and glowing reviews. The reviews you see below may not reflect the most recent ones, but are a selection made by Airbnb based on the country of the viewer first. For the most recent reviews, click on my photo at the bottom of the page, and you will get to my profile page and can see all reviews in chronological order.

The SF Urban Haven is one of the first listings certified by the SF Short Term Rental law and complies with all terms of the legislation. See number below in "Other Things to Note" .

The Haven has a private bath, high ceilings, interior shutters, original wood floors, woodwork & vintage lighting. It is decorated with an Asian flair and is a cozy nest with a queen platform bed, freshly ironed sheets on a fabulous made in SF McRoskey mattress. It is comfortable for one or two people. Note: If you have tons of luggage & plan to spend lots of time in your room, it may feel crowded.

Easy free street parking, close to SFO, freeways & convenient public transit to the sights of our city. Walking distance to great coffee, restaurants, the Bay, 2 fitness centers, even ATT Park & Downtown for the ambitious. 1st morning/welcome continental breakfast provided. Daily morning coffee & tea included along with the local paper.

When you inquire or request a reservation, at least in the Airbnb booking "trip purpose" message section, please tell me a little about yourself, hopes for your SF visit and what appeals to you about my place so I know who will be coming into my home. Before you reserve, please read the House Rules to be sure you are comfortable with the details.

Please note I have a 5 day limit before you inquire about longer stays. My calendar is up to date and reflects reality, so please check it before inquiring. If your desired dates show as unavailable, they really are unavailable.

I generally take only 2-3 bookings per month. So if the Haven appeals to you, suggest you reserve early. I'm usually booked many months in advance.

Friends of Bill W. and S. Gautama especially welcome.

Guest access

Your stay includes daytime use of lush gardens in the front & back. The one in front is great in the afternoon sun.

You have an updated private bath with tiled shower and free access to laundry facilities.

You are welcome to use the kitchen including tea kettle, fridge, microwave, table etc. for breakfast or snacks. Use of the stove is not included.

I keep the living room private although you are welcome to walk through to access the rear garden.

Interaction with guests

Since I'm retired, I'm around a lot, although I do keep pretty busy. I'm a friendly soul, glad to talk about your visit, offer ideas & assistance, and learn about your life. And, I am respectful of your privacy. You set the tone.

Ernie and Olive can be a little shy; please don't take it personally if they hide a lot while you are here.

The neighborhood

Potrero Hill is one of San Francisco's hidden gems. We have great weather, lovely views and feel like a small town within the Big City. Except we have numerous wonderful restaurants and cafes within walking distance. My Guidebook lists many of them and I'll provide you a detailed list in your room.

Getting around

Public transit is just one block away. You'll have choices re: buses or light rail to go just about anyplace in the City. Glad to provide my insights and/or check online resources for you.

Other things to note

I do not include a photo of the outside of my house here for safety reasons. After a confirmed booking, I will provide a confirmation message via your Airbnb email, including transport options and a picture of the house for reference.

Urban Haven House Rules

I have some flexibility re: check in and check out. Just ask. Check out is generally by 12 pm.

Parking is quite easy near the Haven, unlike many places in SF. On my block, we do have 2 hour limits weekdays between 10 & 4. Unlimited free parking is available just around the corner and right in front at night & on the weekends.

Shoes: please remove hard soled shoes such as boots inside the flat.

Cat awareness: Ernie (the black kitty) would love to escape. Please watch out for him at the doors. Sorry, sometimes he gets noisy.

Along with Ernie, I am an early riser. I make every effort to be quiet while making breakfast. And, be aware I may be up and moving around before the sun.

I provide a personal copy of a SF visitors' map (to keep if you wish). An additional SF Guidebook & map library is available for your enjoyment. Please maintain & return them for future guests.

I provide all linens including towels.

Privacy: guests will not enter Nancy's personal spaces w/o invitation. Nancy will enter guest space only for housekeeping: to empty trash or as requested.

The gardens are available for your enjoyment during daylight hours. Please keep your conversations low (in person and telephone) out of consideration for our neighbors. Again, just be careful of Ernie at the door as you come and go!

If you stream music or anything else, please be mindful of the volume in your room and use earphones in the common areas (kitchen and gardens).

No smoking anything anywhere on property. No candles or incense in the room please.

No one on property other than registered guests w/o prior approval.

Kitchen: Between 7 a.m. and 9 p.m., feel free to use the table, toaster, microwave, coffee maker, tea kettle, dishes, utensils and glasses. The Haven does not include full kitchen privileges or use of the stove. Help yourself to tea on the counter, coffee and cream in the fridge.

Refrigerator top shelf is available for your convenience. You are welcome to dine in your room, at the kitchen table or in the gardens. I provide a welcome continental breakfast (scheduled when it works best for you). For snacks and future breakfasts, we have a great little grocery The Good Life, just 4 blocks away at 20th and Missouri. We also have several excellent restaurants for breakfast close by.

Front door: appreciate efforts to be quiet returning at night since the front door is next to Nancy's bedroom.

There are some 20 restaurants and cafes in walking distance. I provide maps of the locations w/ a page of comments on my favorites.

Nancy's place is in a quiet neighbourhood in San Fransisco. It's located close to many cafes and restaurants and close to public transport. She provided us with lots of details of where to visit and more importantly great places of where to eat. We enjoyed our stay and would recommended it to solo/couple travellers. Nancy is a fantastic host and made us feel at home.

Awesome place with an awesome host.

Urban Haven was our first Airbnb experience in USA and Nancy set the bar really high! She was a great and gracious host, and was really helpful in providing lots of information about her area and visiting most of her recommendations did not disappoint at all! :) She also managed the delicate balancing act of giving us space and yet providing the authentic Airbnb experience that is not like the usual cold hotel-like experience. Her place was ultra-charming and we were comfortable right from the start. The area was safe to travel at night as well and is conveniently located. Bonus: Ernie and Olive were super duper sweeties! Nancy, please let us stay at your place again when we are in San Fran!

We had a wonderful long weekend at Nancy's beautiful Potrero Hill home. The house is in a wonderful spot, steps from cute restaurants, coffee shops, and bookstores. Nancy was warm and welcoming and provided a wealth of knowledge about the city and the neighborhood. The room was clean and cozy, and the private bathroom was very nicely updated. She made us an incredible cup of coffee every morning and a great breakfast on our first day there. If we go back we'll definitely be staying here again, at this price range you won't find a nicer spot in the city.

Nancy User ProfileNancy is a superhost.

After 40 years in Social Work, I retired in 2009. I now spend my time in the garden, painting, traveling, maintaining body and spirit, and making my Urban Haven ready for the next guest.

Since 1975, I've been renovating my 1889 era SF Victorian. It is now complete. I am excited to share my space, wonderful city and neighborhood with Airbnb travelers. I am early to bed and early to rise. Seeking congenial quiet guests who would appreciate this sweet setting.

I speak some French, Spanish and Italian. Enjoy practicing with my guests.

You can see more about me online by searching for nancenotes.

My first experience as an Airbnb guest in Puerto Vallarta was so wonderful I get it even more and have since stayed with hosts in Sonoma and am reserved across the UK. What an adventure this is for hosts and guests! Look forward to meeting you one way or another.

A final note: I only take 2-3 reservations a month. So if the Haven appeals to you, suggest you reserve early.
