Thank you Rona for making our stay in Aruba (and first time AirBnb booking) so delightful! The pictures do not really do it justice.
We felt like honeymooners (but really after 18 years together) with the private and luxurious pool surroundings. We had the place to ourselves and it was truly our own paradise. We loved watching the iguanas, green parakeets and songbirds that move freely about in Rona's magical habitat. Our "safety" was assured with "guard dog" Goose who settled amicably on our doorstep each evening.
Rona was a wonderful host- invisible until needed and then offering several
"non-tourist" eating suggestions nearby, ferrying us to the market, and helping us navigate the bus system.
Snorkeling right off the shoreline at several
nearby beaches was a priority to us and we were rewarded with a colorful variety of fish & corals each day.
We wanted to avoid the "High-rise" and downtown crowds and her neighborhood is residential and quiet, but a taxi ride away from anything on the island. We chose to not rent a car and managed quite well.
We would still be in Aruba staying with the lovely Rona if we could have managed it somehow!
Staying at the Villa Bougainvillea was such a treat for us. Immediately upon arrival Rona made us feel so welcomed and was very helpful. The Villa is relaxing, well-kept and has all you need for a great vacation. The surrounding neighborhood, Noord, is safe and comfortable with amazing beaches like Malmok and Boca Catalina just minutes away. Thank you Rona for being such a great hostess!
This was the best, most hospitality I have received this far through my experiences with air b n b. Rona was an incredible host and the property and rooms were surrounded with arts and lots of beautiful interior design. The pool and outside courtyard was gorgeous! I highly recommend this for anyone traveling for some time to Aruba!
We stayed in the Tango Suite for 2 weeks and just got back home to Sweden. We assure you - you won't find a place like this very often! If it's available - book TODAY!
You are located about 5 minutes (w car) from Palm Beach area up north the coast line. 2 minutes by foot to the absolutely gorgeous and not very crowded beaches Boca Catalina & Arashi - which were the ones we liked best. This is were all the snorkeling tour boats stops, so you just hit the ocean and start snorkeling right away. cause you´re already there :)
The suite is very much what it looks like in pictures, comfy, clean. Small kichenette with refrigerator, coffee maker, microwave. The bed is great and bathroom big and clean. Great woman cleaning the room approx 3 times/week. Outside your doorstep you have direct access to the pool area and the incredible garden and hopefully great neighbours. (Rona please send our best to Janet and miss Thelma)
The dogs should have their own review! Takes their job seriously but once they know you they love you and they wants to be where you are. One of them will be your friend at the door step at any time :)
Rona is amazing, makes you feel welcome and very relaxed from the first minute. You won´t see her much (busy lady) but once you do she will offer you the best advice and stories from her island.
Aruba in general is very safe, clean BEAUTIFUL. Big plus for the water being able to drink everywhere...
We did not rent a car, and it worked for us. BUT the buses don't go up here after 8 pm, so then you will take a cab. (We paid between $8-18 for a ride back.)Walking to Palm Beach Area will take you about 25-30 minutes and is a great way to start the day before it gets to hot.
We will never regret stying here instead of a crowded resort and if we come back to Aruba (which we WILL!) we would stay here again. Thank you Rona and the best to your staff too!
Our trip to Aruba in August of 2013 was our first airbnb experience, and Rona made it one to remember forever. From the moment we arrived at her gates, Rona welcomed my wife and I into her home with open arms. She introduced herself and the dogs, her gardener, and then brought us right to our room and showed us around. The room, which is actually a little studio apartment, is exactly as advertised on the website. It's even more beautiful in person though! It has that Aruban charm complete with exposed beams and gorgeous cabinetry. In fact, I visited several hotel rooms over the course of my stay and our studio was better than most of them. The best part is that this place is about a three minute drive from the high rise hotels, five minutes from Superfood, and about ten to fifteen minutes from downtown. There's also a beautiful tourist-free beach less than a couple blocks away. You can't get much better than that. It's great to travel to the touristy area during the day, and then relax back at Rona's at night. Definitely rent a car to get around. I spent a lot of time talking to Rona over the course of a couple mornings and espressos; she is a fountain of information! She is an amazing person, a real sweetheart, and I truly enjoyed hearing all about her life and about the island of Aruba. She can give you advice on anything whether it be the best restaurants to go to, the best tours to take, or advice on how to be an entrepreneur. Rona does it all! She runs a magazine, writes many articles for the local newspapers, consults with big name hotels for marketing, and even has her own radio show. She is a true renaissance woman. I wished we could have spent more time with her, but she is a busy woman! On to the grounds. They are well-kept, lush, and beautiful. I used the pool and surrounding area for at least a couple hours each day. Also, there are so many different things to look at while walking around including antiques, little lizards, birds, and the occasional iguana climbing the wall. It truly is something to see, and Rona employs a small army of people to keep her property looking that way. I would choose this place over a high rise hotel every day! And if you need the whole resort pool experience, park at the Marriott and enjoy their pools for the day free of charge. I could use way more than 500 words to describe this place, but you have to see it for yourself. Spend time with all of her dogs, especially Tiger. He is an absolute sweetheart and we fell in love with him. Spend time getting to know Rona, and explore her lovely grounds here at Villa Bougainvillea. You'll enjoy every second that you're there! When I go back, I won't stay anywhere else.
I attended Rona's lovely villa this past March 2013 and have nothing but positive things to say. Rona is kind and attentive and will ensure you have a wonderful stay.
I'm the type of traveler who prefers to spend my time enjoying the environment over fighting for beach chairs. If this describes you, then Rona's accommodations are likely perfect for you.
Rona's villa is located in Noord, a very safe neighbourhood just north of the tourist-district (5 minute drive), Oranjestad (10 minute drive) and 20 minutes from the Airport. There is a bus route that stops 2-minutes away from here, but having a car was ideal and an inexpensive way to explore the island on your own terms.
My boyfriend and I (35 and 24) attended for 1-week and had all our creature comforts, with added privacy, peace and quiet, and all the amenities you could possibly need. Lounging by the pool was so relaxing after each day of adventuring! Lots of little lizards and Rona's kind, gentle and extremely well-behaved dogs to keep you company.
Our room was large, with lots of closet space and was kept immaculately clean. The small kitchenette suited us great, as we BBQd most of our food (due to my food allergy) and the high expense of the Aruban restaurants (which we weren't terribly impressed by).
I would recommend this place for both couples, families or lone-travelers - it's an ideal place to get some rest, have independence and enjoy the calm Aruban breeze without constant exposure to (sometimes) obnoxious tourists - but with accessibility to the tourist area should you wish.
My handful of tips:
- for groceries: Superfood, 7 minute drive South has the best produce and variety (including alcohol, but no pharmacy). You'll have lots of space to keep snacks in the mini-fridge!
- bring lots of sunscreen and aftersun; it's ~$17USD at Superfood if you forget/run out
- should you be inclined to need one, bring a small travel hair-dryer, although the breeze is constant
- Malmok Beach, walk or drive, it's just next door and great for snorkeling. We brought our own gear and made great use of it.
My son and I stayed in Rona's Tango Suite for 2 nights. The entire space was immaculate! Rona was very welcoming and had considerable knowledge about life on the island. She made us feel very much at home and did not hesitate to assist us.
Her place is very close to Arashi Beach and much water activity such as snorkeling, wind surfing, paddle boarding, etc.
Her gardens were extensive and very well maintained.
We would have enjoyed a longer stay at Villa Bougainvillea had we the opportunity to do so. Hopefully on our next trip to Aruba!

You will love Aruba from the Malmok Beach point of view, away from kids, elevators and wall to wall carpets. We offer serenity and beauty, mixed in with island hospitality. I am a writer/journalist, and a built-in resource for what ever's going on here . . .
