Eddy and I have 2 bedrooms and a sunroom for rent in our historical home in Springfield, Jacksonville.
This listing is for our bedroom that has a QUEEN size bed (check our other listings for the other options). This bedroom as a small flat screen TV with cable. It has a small closet and is the best for sleeping in. We have 2 bathrooms to share with hosts and other guests. No private bathrooms (sorry). There's wireless internet throughout the house.
We have a cat and 2 small friendly dogs who love company! One of the dogs is a barker! He welcomes you in the house as well as barks when dogs pass by outside. This can be a problem for people who like to sleep-in.
Please let us know a few days ahead if you are interested in one of our rooms. We are very busy and need to make sure the house is ready for guests. A message with your intentions for your stay is also greatly appreciated.
The house is over 100 years old, it can be drafty in the winter months, but we make sure guests are comfortable. We provide space heaters and warm blankets. Summer months can be hot! We usually keep the A/C temperature at 80 (27c).
You have access to the whole house (kitchen, dinning room, living room, washer & dryer).
Other fun stuff you can borrow:
- Bike & lock
- Museum membership to MOCA & Cummer Museum & Garden
- Discs (freezebies) for playing the Disc Golf course in Klutho Park
- 2 tennis racquets (tennis court 2 blocks away)
- Badminton racquets
Interaction with Guests
Interaction with our guests varies depending on each guests and on our schedule. We want our guests to have the best experience, so we adapt to their needs.
Historic Springfield is the oldest neighborhood in Jacksonville. Most homes are over a 100 years old. Like many urban areas in the US, Springfield deteriorated with the growth of the suburbs. It is now actively being remodeled, but you will see a lot of abandoned homes, still a lot of poverty and occasional gun shots (usually in the distance). It is a great community of people trying to bring back Springfield to it's original glory. Voted #1 comeback neighborhood of the South by Southern Living magazine and situated in the urbancore of Jacksonville, we are walking distance from UF Health / Shands Hospital and a five minutes from downtown.
Lots of neighborhood charms; old homes, big trees, coffee shop, candy store, local bars & restaurants... Because of the proximity to downtown, we are centrally located and have easy access to I-95 as well as I-10 and about 20 minutes driving to the Jax Beach. We are also surrounded by great older neighborhoods like San Marco, Riverside and Avondale.
We are 15 minutes walk to the central bus station in Jacksonville. However, public transportation is not the best and your commute can be very long.
However if you are visiting downtown Jacksonville and around, we have a bike for guests to use. Walking is not too bad either.
We are 20 minutes from the airport by car or taxi. A taxi ride will run about $30. No convient bus route, sorry.
Other Things to Note
We often host supper club at our house. We call it Urban Feast. We will let you know if a dinner is planned during your stay.
Don't let the pets out! Please, keep the front door closed as you bring things in and out. Our cat Ernest is an escape artist.
No smoking allowed!!
Obvious, but must be mentioned:
Please, be respectful of our space, animals and other guests. This means: try to be quiet when people are sleeping. Pick-up after yourself in common areas. Be nice to our animals.
This was our second time staying with Marie and Eddy. We arrived really late on Friday and left before the sun on Sunday. Even though our travel times weren't ideal, they were understanding and still made us feel at home. This trip we stayed in one of the spacious upstairs bedrooms. The room was clean and cozy and the bed was super comfortable.
I very much enjoyed staying with Marie and Eddy for 8 weeks! They were very welcoming throughout my stay, while also giving me my privacy. I stayed in the middle room upstairs, which I liked a lot. The TV did not work, but other than that, the description was very accurate. The house was beautiful, very historic. The dogs and cat are friendly as well!! I would recommend this room to someone who has a car or likes to walk. Thank you for the wonderful experience while I worked in Jacksonville Beach!
We stayed with Marie and Eddy for one week. They are super awesome hosts. They showed us some nice places, shared their stories and gave us lots of advice where to go. They made us feel home so that we could enjoy the time at their place very much. Thank you Marie and Eddy for the good time!
Totally comfortable and warm home. I did not get to meet Eddy as my schedule over the weekend was quite hectic, but Marie made me feel welcome. I would stay there again. Thank you! Roni
Marie & Eddy were excellent hosts, they have a lovely home and comfy room & bed, you feel right at home, they are very friendly and offer sightseeing & dining tips and even gave me a couple of rides into town & Marie has a free guest pass to the Art Museum as well. Most awesome people to meet (with cute dogs & cat too) and a great time was had, can't thank them enough for making me so welcome & comfortable.
Super séjour chez Marie ou nous avons ete tres bien accueillis. Super séjour et Marie est disponible et arrangeante. Nous recommandons sans hésitation !
I was very happy with my stay here & would recommend it to other travelers. Marie and Eddie are charming hosts and I am glad that I was able to have coffee with them both on my last morning. Their house is beautiful and clean. I slept well. I parked right outside without difficulty or incident. Marie was very responsive by email and helped me with some logistics as well. Can't say enough good things about my stay.
