The house is very large and spacious with a backyard, courtyard, big kitchen, expansive living room/entry, and dining room.
It's a five bedroom, three bathroom house on two levels. Both levels have an amazing view of the Bay and San Francisco.
The house is old and charming. The neighborhood is quiet and safe.
Note: There will be other guests and tenants sharing the house. The environment is communal and friendly, but there's also plenty of space for peace and privacy.
Also note that this room is on the lower level of the house, down one flight of stairs. You may hear movement from above--it usually settles down around 11pm.
The best houseguests are those who enjoy the company of others and are tidy and quiet at night.

The bathroom is shared with some of the other tenants.

Interaction with Guests
I am a 30-year-old female, born and raised in San Francisco, eldest of 6, and of Cantonese descent. My family has owned this house for 20 years. I recently moved back to the Bay Area in 2013 after living in LA for 4 years.
This home is my main residence, but I'm usually bouncing around between my partner's house in Berkeley and my family's house in San Francisco.
When I'm home, I clean, garden, sleep, eat and hang out with guests and friends. Some weeks I'm here often, others I'm rarely around. But I check-in frequently and am easily reachable by phone.
I am very friendly and love sharing this city with guests. I will tell you about all my favorite local hikes, restaurants, landmarks, and neighborhoods. I love listening to all your stories and chatting over meals in the dining room. Ask me anything!
Oakland is an amazing city.
Our neighborhood is a gem. The view is stunning up here, it's quiet, the air is clear and the weather is fantastic everyday.
Just up the hill are some amazing parks and trails with some of the biggest trees you'll ever see. Check out Redwood Regional Park and Joaquin Miller Park.
Berkeley is 20 minutes north by car, Lake Merritt and Downtown Oakland are 15 minutes away, Oakland Airport is about 20 minutes away. San Francisco is about 30 minutes away across the Bay Bridge when traffic is light.
Just 5 minutes away at Fruitvale Avenue and MacArthur Boulevard you will find grocery stores, such as Farmer Joe's and Safeway, a gas station, pastry shop, restaurants, pharmacy, library and more!
You will need a car to get here! The nearest BART station is 3 miles away and we are high up on a hill!
If you drive to San Francisco, beware that there is a toll for the Bay Bridge which is between $4-$6 that you must pay going into the "City" with either cash or "Fastrak." Get a Fastrak device, if you plan on staying a while, to use the Fastrak express lanes.
Avoid going to SF during morning rush hour (7-9am on weekdays) and returning during evening rush hour (3-7pm).
If you park in downtown San Francisco, I suggest Moscone Center Garage on 3rd and Howard (cheapest).
For public transportation, go to Fruitvale BART station, which is 3 miles away. You can take BART to San Francisco, Berkeley, and a number of other places in the Bay Area. Parking at the station may be limited, especially on weekdays.
Other Things to Note
I love my home and neighborhood dearly. Our house has a friendly, communal vibe that is built on trust and respect for each other and our neighbors.
Everyone who has stayed here so far has exceeded my expectations, which is why I continue opening my home to new guests.
Please allow me to answer all of your questions and feel free to share any thoughts.
I hope you enjoy your stay here!
Be gentle, be kind. Be quiet after-hours.
No unauthorized guests allowed. If you want to invite someone over, say for dinner, please ask me beforehand. I will probably say yes.
Definitely no smoking inside the house, no pets, no drugs, no crazy parties.
Please park your car close to the house, preferably on our side of the street. Do not crowd the neighbors. Turn your wheels.
Nancy is AWESOME.
From a personal note with a greetings to a nice conversations and hang outs around Oakland was something that I need it.
Place is as described and as on photos. There is nothing much else to add beside that I would say its another home away from home. and Nancy for sure makes sure that you feel this way.
Home and the room was perfect. Location is walkable distance from BART but I had a car so no problem with getting around. Restaurants, bars and grocery stores around the corner. Neighborhood was very safe and made me feel this same at any time of the day/night.
Thank You Nancy
Nancy made us feel right at home and very welcomed. The neighborhood was nice and safe with a great sunset view!
Nancy has been so welcoming and let us do our thing. We have had plenty of privacy but when we want, we can be social and get to know the other guests. The house is very large with spectacular views of the east bay and you can see the mountains across the bay. Very easy to get to either by car or by BART. The Fruitvale BART is a 10 minute drive and it takes about half hour by car to go into San Francisco. The space is clean and comfortable. We feel very at home!
Nancy's place was a dream! My boyfriend and I really enjoyed the privacy we had staying here. It really was spacious and so clean. The view from her place was perfect at night and the backyard was very nice to relax in. Nancy was very helpful as we stayed in contact throughout the weekend via text. Unfortunately we weren't able to meet her, but she made the place very comfortable for us with everything we would need from little baskets for our toiletries and Clorox wipes in the bathroom to sanitize the area if needed. We loved our stay here, Nancy.
We stayed with Nancy for about 6 weeks and really enjoyed our time in the Oakland Hills. The view is spectacular and I appreciated the coffee and breakfast that Nancy provides.
Overall, the place became a home for us and we would stay with Nancy again if we return to the Bay Area.
Nancy was a fantastic host and worked to coordinate with our travel plans. The house does indeed have a great view. The room was really spacious and clean. We had to leave early to catch our flights home, so we didn't get to spend much time there, but we could have been comfortable there for a couple of nights.

I'm 30 years old and originally from San Francisco, eldest of 6, Chinese-American. I moved back to the Bay Area in 2013 after living in LA for 4 years. I did my undergrad at Stanford, got my MBA at UCLA and have worked in interior design, product design, graphic and web design.
I love to hike, throw a football, and watch the sun set. I garden on sunny days and cook when I'm inspired.
You will usually see me with a tool in my hand. I like construction and DIY projects. I built a fence recently and fix things around the house. I really like to clean.
My wonderful girlfriend, Cathy, lives in Berkeley and my (large) family lives in San Francisco. I have a house in Oakland. I split my time between San Francisco, Berkeley and Oakland and cross the bridge almost everyday.
I love meeting people and sharing my home, and that is why I host. As a host, I want to make sure that you have everything you need to start your day right and that you have a pleasant home to return to. You'll have plenty of freedom to explore the City on your own. I'm pretty hands-off after the first day, but I'm always near my cell phone if you need help, unless I'm camping or on vacation.
As a guest, I'm quiet, independent. I like to start my day early and sleep around 11 PM. I prefer nature to cities, I like to read books, I love coffee, I travel with my girlfriend who likes the same things.
My motto? I count my blessings.
