The Space

The house is huge, including backyard and common spaces. The neighborhood is very safe, the view is spectacular. It's a very pleasant getaway.

It's quiet and serene here. The house is old, but charming, a work in progress.

The kitchen is big and great for baking or cooking. The dining room and living room are great for hanging out or working.

Note: This is a 5-bedroom, 3-bathroom house. There will be other guests, tenants, and myself sharing the house, but there is plenty of space.

Also note that this room is on the lower level, down one flight of stairs.

The best houseguests are those who enjoy the company of others and are neat and tidy.

Guest Access

Wi-fi (high-speed), refrigerator, coffee-maker, microwave, stove/oven, washer-dryer. Plenty of free street-parking. Extra space if you need to temporarily store stuff.

There's also a huge monitor in the living room that you can hook up to your laptop via HDMI cable, DVD player as well. (But no TV or cable.)

Interaction with Guests

I am a 29-year-old female, of Cantonese descent, eldest of 6 and a San Francisco native. My family has owned this house for 20 years. I moved back to the Bay Area in 2013.

I love showing people places to go hiking, sight-seeing, my favorite coffee shops in the East Bay, etc. I'd love to hear about all the places you go as well, so I can tell other people!

I split my time between SF and Oakland renovating homes, hosting guests, and generally enjoying life here in the Bay Area.

I may not be home all of the time, but when I am, I love hanging out with houseguests and friends.

The Neighborhood

Oakland rocks!

Our neighborhood is a gem. It's gorgeous, it's quiet, the air is clear and the weather is fantastic everyday.

Up the hill are Redwood Regional Park and Joaquin Miller Park with huge redwood trees and awesome hiking.

20 minutes north is Berkeley, 15 minutes away are Lake Merritt and Downtown Oakland. You can get to San Francisco pretty quickly during non-rush hour by car or anytime by BART (Bay Area Rapid Transit).

My favorite grocery stores are Farmer Joe's on Fruitvale and MacArthur, Safeway, and Trader Joe's.

Getting around

You will need to have a car because we are high up on the hill. It's steep, but worth it!

If you drive to SF, note that there is toll on the Bay Bridge ($4-$6) and never go during rush hour (7-9am weekdays). If you park in downtown SF, I suggest Moscone Center Garage on 3rd and Howard (cheapest).

For public transportation, go to Fruitvale BART station, which is 3 miles away. That will get you to San Francisco or Berkeley. Parking at the station may be limited, especially on weekdays.

There are buses that go from here to Fruitvale Bart, but the walk is steep and I caution against walking out late at night.

Other Things to Note

I love my home and neighborhood dearly. I hope you enjoy your stay here!

  • We stayed with Nancy for about 6 weeks and really enjoyed our time in the Oakland Hills. The view is spectacular and I appreciated the coffee and breakfast that Nancy provides.

Overall, the place became a home for us and we would stay with Nancy again if we return to the Bay Area.

  • Nancy was a fantastic host and worked to coordinate with our travel plans. The house does indeed have a great view. The room was really spacious and clean. We had to leave early to catch our flights home, so we didn't get to spend much time there, but we could have been comfortable there for a couple of nights.

  • Nancy made everything incredibly easy and her home was beautiful! We had ample privacy and were welcome to make ourselves comfortable in her home. I would definitely stay here again in a heartbeat!

  • Nancy is a very nice person as well as a great inn keeper. Kay and I enjoyed the time we spent at her BnB and the information she provided. We will definitely make a return stay at her home.

  • Nancy was truly an awesome and very friendly host. She was really helpful in guiding us about the different places in the city; highlighting its pros and cons to us as we were new to Oakland, CA. Her house is located in a peaceful neighborhood with the most amazing views of the Bay Area. At night, you can get the nicest view of the Oakland California Temple shining so bright up on top of the hill amidst the darkness. Loved our stay!!

  • My wife and I stayed with Nancy while visiting Oakland to photograph a wedding. We came in really late on a Friday night after a long drive, and were delighted to be welcomed into a comfortable atmosphere with friendly people. Nancy and her sister Daisy both made us feel very welcome, offered breakfast and use of basically the entire house (which is surprisingly large and has lovely views of the bay). Best part was the beautiful flower bushes outside the front door

  • Totally awesome experience. Nancy is an incredible host. The house has views to die for. The only problem with going to Nancy's is that you don't want to leave. Getting back to Nancy's is officially on our bucket list.

  • I loved staying with Nancy! I was warmly greeted upon my arrival and given a tour of Nancy's lovely big home. What a great view! My room was clean and comfortable, and I had everything I needed for a cozy weekend stay.

  • Nancy is a great host! She picked us up and drove her home from bus stop so we didn't have to go up steap slope with big luggage. Also, we were surprised at her house. It was much bigger than we expected and we could make food and celebrate New year's eve.The fireworks from her house was so beautiful and we enjoyed so much. We were very glad to see her and if we have another chance, we want to stay her house again. We really recommend her house to stay! Thank you, Nancy!!!

I'm 29 years old and originally from San Francisco. I did my undergrad at Stanford, got my MBA at UCLA and have worked primarily in design. I love to hike, throw a frisbee, dance, and watch the sun set. I garden on sunny days and cook when I'm inspired. You will usually see me with a tool in my hand. I like construction and handy-lady work. I build furniture and fix things around the house and in my other properties in San Francisco. I split my time between Oakland and SF, where the rest of my family lives. I love people and learning about them. I look forward to hearing your stories!
