About this listing
Comfortable, first floor bedroom and half-bath in a house with a park-like setting. Large sunny yard with flower and vegetable gardens on a wooded 5 acres along the Green River, only 10 miles to Brattleboro, 3 miles to Marlboro College and half hour to Mount Snow.
The location is very private and quiet with great hiking, biking, or snowshoeing right from the front door. It's off-the-beaten-path, but well worth the drive to experience the true Vermont. The sun-filled kitchen overlooking the yard is the perfect place to have a cup of coffee or tea. There is also a room on the second floor for additional guests at $45/night.
Guests will have access to the full house including living room with wood stove, a full bath and kitchen.
Interaction with Guests
I love to share my enthusiasm for southern Vermont with guests and will provide a breakfast with eggs, baked goods and fresh fruit.
My favorite aspect to living in Halifax is the rural setting and, of course, the river! This is a wonderful area for prime foliage viewing. And when the snow falls, you can snowshoe right from the front door!
I ask that there is no smoking in the house or on the property.
Charming home - rustic and very clean. Susan was interesting and kind. Note that you're 30 minutes from the nearest town and the shops close up at 5:30pm.
Susan, was extremely friendly and interactive with us, she even took the time to share some photos with us of the area during winter.
The neighbourhood was extremely quiet, in fact I don't think we saw anyone. One is able to go for walks in the forest behind the house.
On a side note, connectivity is very poor in the region here, we were only able to get signal in limited places to receive SMS.
Susan was a warm and welcoming host - we loved chatting with her. The room is very comfortable (and has an attached half bathroom).
Susan is a wonderful host who is easy to talk with and opens her home to guests. I sense that she can get along with many personality types, which is ideal for a AirBnB host. I liked how she communicated promptly and clearly so that we could make our check-in time the best for each of our schedules. The house is clean in a quiet spot above a river. Definitely do not hesitate staying in Halifax with Susan for a peaceful getaway.
Great place to stay - quiet, friendly, and Susan was a great host. Highly recommended!
This part of Southern Vermont feels remote and woodsy--very beautiful and hard to believe it's so close downtown and the highway. On our way from Brattleboro, our GPS guided us onto a number of dirt roads, which, though tough on the car, was quite scenic and lovely. Definitely request main-road directions prior to arrival. Susan was kind, warm, and welcoming. We arrived in the evening and left early the next morning, so we didn't get a chance to make the most of our stay. However, Susan made it clear that the house was open for us to share and she was happy to chat with us. She also sent us on the road with some homemade muffins, which we really appreciated. The downstairs guest room had a half bathroom, which was a convenient plus. The room was a peaceful and convenient crash pad for us. The experience is more of staying in a comfortable family home rather than at a manicured inn. NB: wifi is unavailable (this is clearly advertised in the amenities but I overlooked it).
I stayed at Susan's place this past weekend. Susan gave us very precise directions to reach safe and sound. She was very welcoming and made us feel at home. Her place is very charming and just next to the green river. She even made us delicious muffins for breakfast. Would definitely stay there again. (But would make sure to have snow tires/ 4 wheel drive for winter).
About the Host, Susan
I enjoy being active, whether it's traveling around the country or just going for a run or hike around my house. Weekdays I am at a local middle/high school teaching Family & Consumer Science. Weekends I am usually working in the garden or enjoying the best that southern Vermont has to offer. I feel truly blessed to live in such a beautiful and charming area, and enjoy sharing it with guests.
