the castle is a unique sleeping space for the adventurous at heart. a separate standing structure in the garden. it has a desk downstairs and sleeping space above. the bed is small. not the regular length or width, but when the hatched is closed one can make it very comfy... as we said, adventurous :)... the seating area is outside and it's just steps away to the house for bathroom and kitchen use. listen to waterfalls, bamboo sweeping on the building and an occasional critter scuttle across the roof as you are swept away into magical slumber.
the main house is a great artistic 100 yr old venice craftsman.

Moments on the rooftops of Paris
On the verandas of Tennessee Williams
Through the alleyways of New York
And the crashing waves of Venice
From house to house without too much fight
Our love passes
With spice and song and laughter
We create within ourselves this art called life
And drink together after
For years we watch, we trade, we cry
We hang out at Billy's
While their world passes by
Our romance intense
The story a steamy one
All on the breeze of a palm tree
Sinking in the ocean with the sun
Should you come to one of our parties
Be you lucky enough to attend
Our special neighborhood
With subtle obscenities
Secretly with the smell of dinner and music
Then you may end up staying
A long while, i may add
And soon it will become difficult to leave this place
Has your heart
Such an excuse
Natasha and I had ana amazing time at the castle in the enchanted gardens! It really is a small castle in enchanted gardens (I was an instagram fiend all weekend). The property is flowing with all mediums of art. Simply wonderful. Everything seems to have a specific place and specific meaning. Tracy was a warm and welcoming host. The location was a short walk to the beach and an even shorter walk to Abbot Kinney. I definitely recommend staying here!
Thank you Tracy for your kindness and flexibility. The grounds were beautiful and the space was very well cared for. :)
This place is incredible! I had my own tiny private cottage (the castle) and enjoyed the unique artistic grounds. Beautiful property and very close to Venice beach and Abbott Kinney.
Tracy was accommodating and let me leave my bags for a few extra hours after I had checked out. She was also very friendly and generous. A wonderful person!
Clean, private, convenient, and unique. Would stay here again and highly recommend staying at this Bnb to anyone who is traveling alone or with a partner as it has multiple rooms options.
Thanks Tracy, Ava, and Cassandra!
I was only in the Castle for one night before I switched to a different room in the house (it was a planned switch and didn't have anything to do with my experience). I will say I'm 6 feet tall and had a little difficulty fitting in the bed, but it was better when I turned diagonally.
Tracy is such a hospitable person and certainly an incredibly gracious hostess. If I find myself in the area again, I wouldn't hesitate staying in Tracy's home, but I'd probably try to stay in one of her other rooms before I stayed in the Castle. My experience was fine, I just liked the other room I stayed in better.
Our stay at the castle was amazing. The only bummer is that we couldn't stay longer. The location is ideal: close to the beach, to Deus Ex, to Abbot Kinney, to an Enterprise (car rental), etc. And the house.... wow. Enchanted is the word to describe it. Dream house full of hidden treasures (and sweat pets :) ). Major plus --» Tracy had beach cruisers waiting for us; that just made my day. One thing to know, though, before booking, if you're very tall, you should consider booking another available room in Tracy's kingdom, the castle being a very tiny (but super charming) space.
I recommend totally.
See you next year, I hope.
Overall, our stay at the Castle was great!
Tracy is a very gracious and friendly host - you feel extremely welcome sharing the common spaces in the house (kitchen, bathrooms) with her - but not overbearing or overwhelming (i.e., she will leave you alone if you want privacy or quiet alone time).
The (shared) kitchen is nice - you get a shelf in the fridge, and there's a nice big table to use. The (shared) bathrooms are also very nice and spacious.
The castle is a great deal for traveling on a budget - very cheap for the neighborhood, convenient to Abbot-Kinney, Venice Beach, & buses to rest of LA. However, it is quite small. My boyfriend and I had a great time there, but we are both on the short side, and we spent most of our time out and about during the day, only coming back in the evening to watch a movie on a laptop and sleep. Two tall people or one extremely tall person would probably be uncomfortable, and it's not a great place to hang out for long periods of time unless you're cuddling and watching TV.
Had a pleasant stay. Tracy was very accommodating with anything we needed & her awesome place made our 1 year anniversary a bit more special. Such a cool place. You're money will not go to waste on this sweet spot!
I can confirm what others have said: the place has lots of quirky charm and Tracy is a very friendly and accommodating host. She let me use a bike for the day, too and I went up and down the coast to Santa Monica. The "castle" itself gives a very snug place to sleep (I actually like that) and the sound of the little fountain in the courtyard made me sleep rather well. The location of the house is very nice, too- just 100 yards or so from the oh-so-hip Abbot Kinney Rd.
Off topic: Watch your wallet on Abbot Kinney! Not because of pick-pocketing, but because every bite will cost you half a paycheck. And now I know why everyone is so fashionably skinny in that neighborhood- the cost and portion size are such that you just won't get full ever.
Back to the castle: on the minus side is the fact that the bed is indeed very short (I am about 6 feet and had to sleep diagonally). If you need to get to the bathroom, you need to fold yourself out of your bed, slide down the ladder, scamper out the door, across the courtyard, into the next door via a combination lock and then into the bath. I drank too much green tea and water that night and had to go through that ordeal twice in the middle of the night. Not fun. In the morning, I had to wait for the (albeit very nice) shower quite a while because Tracy rents out several rooms and it was busy.
So, I enjoyed my stay with Tracy, but I would rather call it a "neat experience" than a "must-do".
What a whimsical little escape! You really can't beat the location (a few short blocks from Abbot Kinney) or the hospitality. Know that you're signing up for tight quarters if you're a couple, but it's 100% manageable and really quite fun! The garden is exquisite- the perfect place for a glass of wine and lots of banter. My partner and I are both animal lovers so we loved the pup, cats and the pin that housed guinea pigs, chickens and a bunny! Tracey is sweet, considerate and willing to provide you any guidance you need to make your trip more pleasant. A word to the wise- we decided to rent a car on the last day of our stay and it just so happened to be street-sweeping day (Wednesday) and we got a ticket. Mea Culpa on our part- we just don't want you to make a similar mistake! By and by, Tracey's home is a good fit for the adventurous and the curious. We would gladly return to the castle in the future.
Tracy is a wonderful, accommodating hostess. Our stay was comfortable, private & the location of her home could not be more ideal for our needs (leaving early, coming back late). I will advise, from the perspective of a 6'1" guy that the sleeping space in castle can make it tough to stretch out. Otherwise, it the trip to LA was just what we needed & Tracy' place topped it off
